  1. This week Microsoft announced a new subscription based program called Xbox All Access, which you can find the full details on here: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/08/27/xbox-all-access/ The short version is that for $22 a month you get a brand new Xbox One S system, 24 months of Xbox Live Gold, and 24 months of their Game Pass service (which is much like Netflix for video games). Alternately, for $35 a month you can get an Xbox One X instead of a One S. The catch is that you're locked into a 24 month contract, but once the 24 months is up you own the system and get to keep it; similar to the way mobile phone companies sell phones these days. Personally I think it's a brilliant idea, as there's probably quite a few people who would like to play current generation video games but might not be able to plunk down hundreds of dollars up front for a system. The only hitch in the plan is that it's pretty common knowledge that Microsoft and Sony plan to roll out their next gen systems in a year or so, which makes being locked into a 2 year contract for an aging system a little less attractive. On the flip side, I know that if Nintendo offered the same kind of deal where you got a Switch with their own Game Pass type service that had 100+ current generation games to download for $22 a month I'd run out and sign up today. So I'm curious what you guys and gals think of this new service? Is it something you'd be interested in and could it be the future of console and game distribution?
  2. I seem to be having a little trouble with my Premium Softcard //e. I've got it plugged into the Aux. slot on my //e Platinum (for some reason my regular //e is being a horse's ass about both of my I/O Controllers for the DuoDisk I'm using, so I just went to the Platinum...it might not like standard Disk ][ controllers either but I haven't tested that far yet), and I've got the Premium Softcard //e CP/M 2.26 master disk, which the card requires--I don't think any other version of CP/M works with it (good move, Microsoft...). So my setup is: Apple //e Platinum Aux Slot = Premium Softcard //e Slot 6 = I/O Controller (5.25 Drive Controller Card) --> DuoDisk unit (All other slots empty) I tested this setup with standard DOS disks with normal results. So far, so good. Then I tried booting CP/M 2.26 (again, the proprietary master disk for this card) from the copy I made with my CFFA3000, and also from the CFFA3000 itself. Either way, it starts to boot, but just stops at a blank screen before anything comes up. If I put the I/O card in another slot, I at least get a message "Must boot from Slot 6." The LED on the card does not light up at any point. Possible issues I can come up with: -Dead card -Bad disk image -Premium Softcard //e incompatible with //e Platinum system -CP/M boot disk requires a Disk ][ controller and doesn't play nice with the Uni/DuoDisk I/O controller for some reason Any troubleshooting tips before I starting digging out all my parts, Frankensteining things around, and making a 10-ton mess of my computer room? Or, rephrasing that, is there a way to test the card without the CP/M software, say, from Applesoft or DOS?

  9. Is anyone interested in an Xbox One Elite (1TB SSHD) console without the controller? It has been lightly used and it is excellent cosmetic and working condition. It includes the original AC adapter as well as a Nyko Intercooler that connects by USB and attaches to the top of the console. No controller or HDMI cable will be included. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you!

  13. I know that when Atari was building up to the original Xbox launch, the Atari brand was tarnished in many ways, but it did (and still does) have a huge amount of cache as a hugely influental American game and game console maker. From a marketing and business standpoint there are a lot of good arguments for them to have cheaply bought the established name and slapped in on their first game console. For example Atari 9600, by Microsoft, or something along those lines. I bet there was at least some consideration of the idea at Microsoft at the time. Instant brand recognition and cache from the American gaming public was up for grabs, but they passed. What do you think?
  14. A brand new 2016 BUYING GUIDE for the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console with accessories and best games to get day 1! Metal Jesus & Jerry Barnacules talk about the 3 different Xbox 360 models, the controllers and much more! We should have mentioned the HDMI port on the original black Elite models... oh well... What Xbox 360 Games do you recommend new collectors buy day 1?
  15. As many times as I've said, "I'm not going with the newest gaming console", the opportunity is presenting itself for an Xbox One. With my trade in, some extra cash, I can get a unit and one game to start me on my adventures with the Xbone. There's a few of you around here that probably bought the console on day one of it's launch, then some of you that waited for a bit for Microsoft to iron out some "rough patches", but three years later I think I'm ready to try it out. This won't be a brand-new unit, but a used one. I have a very specific amount to spend, and with the opportunity to buy Fallout 4 with it, I think I'll be happy with my upcoming purchase. I know there's talk within the community that Microsoft is making a "mini" model and a more "powerful" model (announcements at E3 most likely), but I'm not interested in VR or anything like that. This will be the first time in awhile I've actually "caught up" with modern gaming. My TV is also limited to 1080, and can't do 4K. So, do you think that it's a good time? Do you recommend Fallout 4 for a good starter game to keep me busy for awhile? And not to mention that some of my Xbox 360 games will work on the Xbone. Also, we have a darn good internet connection so that shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps I'll even multi play (perish the thought)!! Thoughts on this upcoming purchase and beginning game would be welcome.
  16. Seattle collector Emilio found an extremely rare orange HALO original XBOX at a garage sale near Microsoft HQ in Redmond Washington.. There was only one made by a Microsoft employee and here is the story.
