Here are the jedec PAL/GAL map files I have, separated into four zip files, for Corcomp, Myarc, TI, Misc: All GAL files were tested on the GAL16V8D-25LP or GAL20V8B-25LP chips and are working. I recently acquired an Atari 2600, 4 switch Darth Vader PAL model. I installed a composite video mod but my console will not produce any sound or video signal. Sometime it gives a beeping sound with varying pitch, other rare times it gives static on the screen, but most times no video signal and just static. The seller stated that the thing was tested before transport and was well packaged. Things I've done: Replaced the two capacitors with 830pf 50v ceramic ones. Removed all the required components for composite mod. Checked all the traces, including mods, all good. Checked the voltage regulator, all good. Checked the transistors and inductors, all good. Checked the chips for activity, getting a signal. Checked the AV sockets, getting 1V with the video out. I'm out of things to test and can't come to a diagnosis. Is there anything I've missed? These are pictures my current progress, still no luck.

I first played the assorted Ultimas on an NTSC machine where the artifacting gave at least some semblance of colours - blue and a sort of muddy greenish brown - but on a PAL machine they're ugly as heck which is kind of disappointing/distracting. I know of at least a couple of games - DROL and Choplifter - that were hacked to run in Antic mode 14, so I'm wondering if anyone's done the same (or attempted it) for any of the Ultimas? (I've always assumed these games ran in Antic mode 2, so I guess they'd need to be changed to 4 instead?) It wouldn't be perfect, but I still think it would be an improvement...

Mercado Libre can have some old collectible Atari stuff but if you are not living in Latin America you cannot shop there. Until I found out about Latinafy. I am not affiliated with them, I just wanted to try out if it's a real deal and if so wanted to share this information with others. I think it only works for Argentina and Uruguay sites of ML. You provide Latinafy with the product link, they generate a special link where you can buy it with the added $9.99 S&H fee for US (Europe has different rates). I just did that, and well, I got the stuff via Fedex. To be clear, many stuff listed there are not very cheap, but since it is not eBay there are items at reasonable prices lingering for a longer time with minimal Western buyer access. As for the machine, it is one of those with the musical menu. At 160 it wraps around and goes back to game #32. I don't have a game list, but the games 32-159 seem to follow the 192-in-1 listed at Atari Mania here. The first 32 is slightly different than the existing 32-in-1s I have seen (#10 is Combat, there are 2 basketballs and 2 Tennis games with changed sprites etc). Oddly the label was glued in reverse, and I have seen another one in Mercado Libre like this. Possibly a defective batch they didn't bother to fix. Board has KW 26002 printed on it (King-Wei/Kingway of Taiwan?).

My setup of a six-switcher "PAL b" 2600, Unocart 2600, Philips 7300 PAL b/g TV Tuner and Philips-made Commodore 1084S PAL monitor displays all the PAL Games I have tried with it very nicely. Except for one: Fatal Run. On that, the title screen works normally, but as soon as I start the game, I see a warped, doubled (though not rolling) picture quite unlike anything else coming out of this monitor (which I have also used for watching TV when we still had analog cable TV here in Germany, as well as with a whole bunch of other legacy consoles and computers. That includes NTSC devices, which produce a clear, non-rolling black-and-white picture on it). Does Fatal Run on PAL maybe have an unusual line count, or any other non-standard thing about the way it handles vertical sync timing? Does anybody else have this problem? I can add a picture tomorrow if needed, currently I have no time to set everything up, take a photo and transfer it to the forum, but maybe somebody already knows of the issue?

Yesterdays I provided the code I used to play back RMT music created with current 1.32 release. Most of this code was written by @dmsc and/or @VinsCool. I did just some adaptions to be able to replay the song correct, so I can use the new RMT in some projects. Just some days before I started, what now is publicly available Have fun watching this little intro - and feel free to dance to this cool DM song ? Download at pouet or my own website

Good morning members. After sharing the Pitfall II PAL hack yesterday., I thought I may as well share another graphic modification remastered hack of The Activision Decathlon to give the PAL version a remastered look to give it the NTSC look as well. The work done here are followed. Added the sunset sky. Made the stadium floodlights yellow the Athlete's colour palette has improved significantly that was absent on the official PAL version release. Here's the YouTube video of the gameplay in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlqMXiXvNyg Decathlon (1983) PAL Remastered Hack (Josh Russell).bin

***UPDATE: Download the ENTIRE NTSC & PAL Atari 7800 set HERE. Original Post follows... This is relatively important, especially for our game developers I'm hoping this helps and makes color conversion from one format to another a bit easier. Download both raw color palettes here: There is no bias and both palettes share the following same attributes per standard Atari 7800 configuration without any display device influence (And no 'warm-up' factor). This is system cold/factory default settings as follows: Contrast = 0.05 Brightness = 0.00 Color = 0.22 Phase = 25.7 Colorburst = 180 degrees This NTSC palette and the ones to follow are brand new and never released before due to error on my part, but this PAL palette has been released before under a different name, again due to errors on my part. Again, they are both the 'raw' ones for their respective regions. Your input (especially PAL users as I am in NTSC land) is greatly appreciated for this thread. Thank You, Robert

I know several of you have functioning Interton VC 4000s that you play on modern NTSC sets. I'm getting one shipped from Germany as we speak, and I was looking for advice on what I needed. From what I understand, I need: + A power transformer to convert the 220V signal to the American standard. + Some means to convert the PAL signal to NTSC. The transformer is straightforward, though I was hoping someone could suggest the maximum wattage I needed. For signal conversion, someone suggested the Orei XD-1190 PAL HDMI/RCA to NTSC HDMI Converter, though it appears to only support signal resolutions as low as 480i, and I don't know the VC's output. (I also don't necessarily need an upscaler.) Any suggestions are welcome, either for display on CRT or a modern HDTV. I'd also love any suggestions for multi-carts or other add-ons—I'd eventually like to run my own code on this thing. Lastly, if anyone has a manual scan for the system (not its games or hardware clones), I'd appreciate a link. I can't seem to find one online. Thanks!

I've been dying to buy POKEY games for the 7800, but it's getting to be expensive and troublesome. Copies of Ballblazer for the 7800 are getting harder to find and this was to be expected. On eBay things are quite limited. Boxed copies can be had for about $30 to $50 dollars, but I'm not buying a mint or sealed boxed copy just to get the cartridge. Loose copies, well I'm only finding the ones with the red end labels, and they tend to go for $50 to $80. I sometimes see loose PAL cartridges for around $25, but I don't even know if they are compatible. POKEY chips can be found in a 5200 console, but then I'd have to buy one, pay to have it shipped to me, destroy the console to get at the POKEY chip, remove the POKEY chip (which I don't even know how to do), and then ship it to Atari Age. POKEY chips can be found in some Atari Arcade games, but no way am I going that route either! The cheapest option that I can find is to buy just a board with a POKEY chip on it. Cost $30. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ballblazer-Atari-7800-Pokey/152564067928?hash=item238586ee58:g:RJ8AAOSwjKtccao9 The one POKEY version that I'd really like to own is Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. Cost? $52.25. So if I could go with the board that I found on eBay, which includes free shipping, my cost would be $82.25 not counting the shipping charge from Atari Age, and assuming that I can have this board shipped directly to Atari Age. And that's the CHEAPEST option! If these boards like the one that I've linked to are common, and I have no idea if they are, perhaps Atari Age could buy them in bulk. The seller seems to be offering that option (for $25). If Atari Age passed that expense along I'd be willing to do it. Actually, I'd also be willing to buy the board, have it shipped directly to Atari Age, and have them use that. But I am disabled now so my options are limited.

Asking price (negotiable) $750 includes shipping to continental US states. It weighs a LOT, shipping is approximately $100 just for that. Will ship internationally, but expect the shipping cost to go way up Might be better to use a re-shipping company in that case. A few years ago I won this in a drawing, and was really hoping to keep it But financial issues getting my main line vintage systems up to where I want them precludes that. It works great and only has 2 issues. The blue hinge caps are removed (but included,) so I could find out why the left hinge wouldn't lock. The hinge is missing the metal studs that keeps it from turning. The right hinge locks just fine. May be an easy fix, or may need a replacement. Also the keyboard sometimes will print multiple characters on a single press, and occasionally won't register at all. All the keys work, if your careful, though. Ideally, someone near Waco, TX will buy it and come pick it up. Figure 300 mile radius with current cost of gas & average mileage to save money on shipping (assuming you have the time to drive for 10-12 hours to get here and back.) But Austin, Dallas, or Fort Worth should be an easy choice sx64.3gp

ALL SOLD! Thanks to everyone who expressed interest. EDIT: In order to encourage the sale of the remaining PAL sets, I have added to this listing the original Avalon Hill lid-style boxes with inserts (no carts or manuals). Buying the AH SET for the asking price will entitle the purchaser to a 10% discount per remaining PAL set. So, 20% off TWO PAL sets and 30% off ALL THREE! As the listing states, US shipping will be FREE to anyone who purchases more than one set. Listed for sale here are 86 Atari 2600 cartridge and manual sets separated by company, of which there are 13 represented. Unless otherwise noted*, all carts are: - in complete company sets - mint condition - NTSC - included with original manuals and inserts (no catalogs) Hi-res scans or photos will be provided if requested. Asking prices are based on the midpoint between what I paid back in the day and current pricecharting.com sales listings, where available. I encourage all interested parties to do their own research, but I think you'll find these prices to be bargains. Prices DO NOT include shipping, but Priority Mail shipping will be free to US buyers who purchase 2 or more sets. International buyers please PM do discuss shipping options. Please PM questions, comments, offers to buy... American Videogame - 1 game - $19---> SOLD Avalon Hill (BOXES ONLY!) - 4 boxes - $100------> SOLD *Set incomplete - Out Of Control was sold years ago, sorry. * These were acquired directly from Avalon Hill in late 1984. Bit Corp Re-release (*All PAL) - 7 games - $75-----> SOLD *Set incomplete - does not include Dancing Plates, Space Tunnel. *Quelle Phantompanzer cart was in Bit Phantom Tank box when I bought it in 2001; manual is a copy. Bomb (*All PAL) - 2 games - $130---> SOLD *Price is MY COST from 2001. No auction data available. *Set incomplete - does not include Assault, Great Escape. *Z-Tack label is faded. *Included manuals are in German and French only. Data Age - 8 games - $78----> SOLD First Star - 1 game - $87 > SOLD *Cart is standard, NOT Xonox style. FOX - 17 games - $200----> SOLD *7 of the 17 carts have altered labels. Back in the mid-'80's, when nobody cared, I resented Fox for not putting the title of every game on the end label. After all, who doesn't store their carts end-label out?! So I sliced them and swapped the titles on the fronts with the copyright info on the ends of the following titles: *Bank Heist *Crypts of Chaos *Earth Dies Screaming *Flash Gordon *M*A*S*H *Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes *SpaceMaster X-7 I suppose a buyer, if any, could swap them back, but they can never again be considered mint. Nevertheless, the asking price is $169 less than current VGPC pricing. Is that not worth some less-than-pristine labels? Froggo - 6 games - $74----> SOLD Konami - 3 games - $52----> SOLD M Network - 17 games - $150----> SOLD Salu Exclusives (*All PAL) - 3 games (plus 1) - $70-----> SOLD *My Golf is a HES exclusive but is included here simply because this is the version I acquired. Sancho (*All PAL) - 6 games - $120-----> SOLD *Exocet label is worn. *No manuals for Dice Puzzle (it was on the box), Exocet, or Nightmare, but I can provide copies of the Panda equivalents. Hello! I'm wondering of anyone has investigated the feasibility of modding a 2600 so that you can switch between clock frequencies and/or color palettes. The goal of such a project would be to play cartridges of differing regions on the same machine. I've seen a similar project on a Commodore 16 where the clock crystal was replaced with an Arduino, the latter programmed to output different selectable frequencies to produce a signal for PAL and NTSC video. As for the color palette, I believe that would require a swap of the TIA chip, which could be done manually if the board is socketed. I haven't studied the schematic, and a cursory search doesn't show anything useful. To anyone with the hardware experience, do these ideas seem sound? My assumption is that the only difference between a PAL, NTSC, and SECAM 2600 are the clock crystal and TIA since the game cartridge does all the video synch. Steve Guidi

Hi folks, I am new at AtariAge. Months ago, I've got an AV-modded european Atari 2600 Jr. (Rev. F board) in a great condition for cheap. However, here at my country (Brazil), PAL-B compatible TV sets are rare to find. The closest color system that is supported by most TVs is PAL-N (PAL variation used in Argentina and a few more countries in South America). I tried to replace the 4.433618 MHz XTAL with a 3.582056 MHz one, but that gave me no colors in any PAL-N compatible set. Also tried to replace the 3.546894 MHz one with a second 3.582056 MHz XTAL, but still gave me nothing but B&W picture. Is there something I can do to make this console output PAL-N? Both systems are 50 Hz and have the same resolution, so it should work somehow. Thanks a lot!

New palettes for Stella - Stella257 & Stella267. Both palettes contain updated NTSC and PAL colors, SECAM retains the standard Stella settings. Stella257 has the 180 degree colorburst in place resulting in 1$ and F$ being a near exact match (Visually they will appear exact to most). Stella267 closer represents the standard Stella palette having a slight phase shift from the 180 degree colorburst, providing the most noticeable change to F$ - darker browns in comparison to 1$, and E$ - giving a more neutral balance between a green and brown hue, instead of a stronger green presence under Stella257. There is no manipulation of contrast, brightness, or gamma for these palettes. Stella has internal controls to handle that Download the palettes here: Stella2XX_Palettes_20130911.zip Screen captures to follow (click pics to enlarge and remove distortion) are in this order: Stella (Standard) --> Stella257 --> Stella267 Color Bar Generation (1984) (VideoSoft) (NTSC) 'Title Screen' & 'Color Bars' [Composite mode @ Stella default values] Color Test (26-09-2002) (Eckhard Stolberg) (NTSC) [Composite mode @ Stella default values] [TV mode disabled (AKA RGB)] Color Test (26-09-2002) (Eckhard Stolberg) (PAL) [Composite mode @ Stella default values] [TV mode disabled (AKA RGB)] Enjoy.

Hi. I recently bought an Atari Jaguar of eBay. It is PAL. It seems to power on and shows a green light. But when I hook it up to the TV, I see a distorted image (what you see when you don’t insert an Atari 2600 cartridge properly) I’ve been told by someone that the console is working as it should and the image I see is caused by the PAL system being used in an NTSC country. What do you think? By the way, I am using the AV signal. Is there something I need to buy to get it working? Thank you!

Hello! I have a question, is it possible to make NTSC atari 2600 roms to PAL (50) ? For example play Adventure II, Yar's return, Flag capture and rare games, what is only in NTSC on my Atari? I have unocart 2600 with SD, but scroll lines, when I use that games. Thank you.

I've recently been offered 3 2600 games; 'Dancing Plate', 'Sea Monster' & 'Space Tunnel' all of which I know very little about, and was hoping someone could give me some insight, as when searching i've found very little information. All games are in their boxes with manuals and appear to be in excellent condition. Image is attached. Would really appreciate anyone who could help shed some light on the rarity and value of these games. Thanks!

Last night I ordered an Atari 2600 Custom Cartridge from Atari Age. This was after reading the description for it, because It appears that you can order a reproduction of a rare game with the original artwork, with added text saying "Reproduction Cartridge." This is fine for me because I only want to be able to play games on actual Atari hardware that I would never be able to afford otherwise. And I don't much like Everdrives. Before getting to the PAL question, the rare game that I wish to have a reproduction of is Demolition Herby. It's like Amidar and Spiderdroid, except it's faster, adds a touch of vehicular combat, and is loads of fun to play. So far I've only been able to play it thru emulation, but I want to be able to play it on actual Atari hardware. After I ordered and paid for an Atari 2600 Custom Cartridge, I added the following note to the order: I need a reproduction of "Demolition Herbie" for my own use. https://atariage.com/software_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=132 (I meant Herby) Now on to the PAL question. Can PAL games be placed onto an NTSC cartridge? There are PAL exclusives that I want to be able to play on my Atari hardware, which use the NTSC standard. Those games include Acid Drop and Meteor Defense for example. Can anyone answer the PAL question for me? Both of the mentioned PAL exclusives run on my emulator, EMU7800, but Acid Drop cuts of the bottom 30% or so off the screen, and Meteor Defense runs, but in black and white only. Most PAL games run fine though. Thanks in advance. -Mark
