  1. tl;dr: Play games from 21st century systems and post your times! For the second season in a row, it is time for the Modern gameplay tracker. The following text is stolen from Thegoldenband with additions by Iwantgames:) who used to run this tracker at the beginning. Here are the links to previous seasons of the tracker: 2018 So what is this? The basic idea is to post what games you played during each week, and for how long. You don't have to time it down to the minute (though some of us do), and estimates are acceptable. Then, at the end of the week, the statskeeper (that's me) totals everything up and we find out which games and platforms are seeing the most action. Each week, we have top 10 lists for consoles/computers and for individual games. Guidelines: 1. Be sure to list the system, the name of the game, and the length of time you play. Please note if the game has any alternate titles by which it's better known. If you list multiple games, please group them by platform. If you play on a backwards-compatible system, e.g. Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One or PS2 games on PS3, the game should be listed under the older platform's name. This also means that games predating 2000 played on a modern system should be posted in the classic games tracker. e.g. PS1 games played on PS2, GB/GBC games played on GBA, Wonderswan played on Wonderswan Color, Windows 95/98 games on a newer PC and so forth. 2. Each week runs Monday through Sunday (at midnight), though exceptions may occur around New Year. Try to post your times no later than night to Tuesday in your local timezone. I will generally wait until Tuesday evening Central European Time before compiling the stats. If you post after stats have been posted, your times will be counted for the next week. Feel free to indicate in your post which dates your times relate to. 3. Playing on actual hardware is preferred, although emulators are certainly allowed. In some cases (homebrews in development, rare arcade games) there's no alternative to using an emulator. 4. Our cutoff year is 2000. That is, eligible consoles and computers have to have been first released somewhere in the world after 2000. Basically any systems released around the PlayStation 2, XBox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance or after. Anything released before this time period (including the Sega Dreamcast) please post to the Classic Game Tracker The same goes for computers: we count Windows XP or newer, but not 98 or older; Mac OS X or newer, but not OS 9 or older; and so on. 5. Arcade games released on or after January 1, 2000 are permitted. 6. You don't just have to post a bare list of times -- comments, stories, gripes, and helpful hints are always encouraged! If you're struggling with a level, got a new high score, or have some thoughts about what's great or what stinks about a particular game...well, that's the kind of stuff that makes this fun to read. How to make the statskeeper's life easier: - If you post a big list of games, please consider alphabetizing them first (after grouping them by platform). - Posting your times in minutes, rather than hours + minutes, makes things a little simpler. - Even if you don't know the exact time, it's better to post a specific number and say it's an estimate. If you say you posted a bunch of games for "between 20 minutes and an hour", I'll just average everything out to 40 minutes, but it's much better to have a sense of which games you played more and which ones you played less. - If there's room for confusion or ambiguity, please address that in advance so I don't have to research it myself. Non-US releases, homebrews in progress, alternate titles, and expanded re-releases can get especially tricky. That about covers it. If you haven't participated before, or if you did and got busy with other things, consider taking part in 2019! You may find that it has some interesting side effects -- I've found that keeping a log dramatically changes how I think about my own gaming, and mostly for the better.

  4. PSP Hardcore is my PSP blog where obviously I talk about the PSP and everything that a lot of sites use to talk about. Accessories, add-ons, reviews you name it I attempt to cover it. Then there are my very short No Nonsense Reviews, which actually came about after reading a 3-page review of Bubble Bobble Evolution PSP and it still didn't tell me if it was a good game...It's a terrible game, of course, I did not know this until after I bought it. My rule is 1 paragraph or less, and keep them as short as possible. Do you want anything bigger? Check somewhere else. I make no apology for what I post, but I do take submissions so if you want to add something Message me. https://psphardcore.blogspot.com/

  6. I stumbled on to the PSP just recently, and am absolutely loving it. I'd like to start this thread in order to learn more about the must-play games, hacking capabilities, and everything people love about Sony's first hand held system. At the time it came out, I wan't really playing handhelds, and my most recent system was a GBA, not to be replaced until the 3DS came out. In retrospect, the PSP did quite well against the juggernaut DS, and the library is deeper than many realize. Info on the PSP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable I look forward to hearing about your favorite DS games, UMD Movies, and hacks/projects you have done with your PSP!

  8. I recently bought a PSP game out of interest and I fell in love with its cover, so that encouraged me to write a post with some of my favorite box art for PSP games (I'll include a link to the article below.) Nevertheless, I probably missed some terrific box art and taking into account there are a lot of collectors here, I was wondering what some of your favorites were. Note that I only included North American releases, PSP exclusives should be prioritized and finally, only the box art is important, so the quality of the game shouldn't influence your decision. Thanks! Top 10: PSP Game Box Art
  9. Metal Jesus & Reggie tell you all about one of their favorite gaming handhelds: the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP). This was a very success handheld with over 80 million units sold, 5 different models, lots of color variants and over 800 games released for it! Do you want to know where to start when collecting for the PSP? This is the video for you! I've been looking forward to doing this Buying Guide for a while now... The PSP really is a great handheld. Hope you guys like it! What are some of your favorite PSP Games?
  10. These days portable games from the last generation really speak to me.
  11. I currently have a PSP 1000 running 6.39 pro B firmware. Emulation has been buggy. The smoothest has been GBA, the NES emulator begins adjusting screen position by itself, and the framerate on SNES- for all games- is dreadful. So: What is the solution? Are there optimal emulators for that firmware? And do later versions of the PSP with higher RAM make a real difference? Thanks.
  12. You can get some good titles for this system for pretty cheap!
  13. I used to think it was just a nagging habit. (If you get that reference you get a gold star.)

  16. I don't know if "7800 Emucoder" got banned, or if he decided to leave, but he PMed me a newer version of the Playstation Portable (PSP) emulator for the Atari 7800 that fixed the issue of the screen being cropped at the top and bottom. Was this fix available elsewhere? I can now play Scramble, Crystal Quest featuring Bentley Bear and Donkey Kong XM and see all of the screen. Attached is the file: PSP7800.zip
  17. Just wanted to post a heads up, RPG's on PSN are on sale for PSP\Vita. This is very rare to happen and most are 3 bucks to 8 bucks each. I counted these: Class of Heroes Crimson Gem Saga Growlancer Wayfarer of Time Gungnir Hexyz Force Knights of the Nightmare Riviera Yggdra Union
  18. As good as Final Fantasy IV is how could I say no to that face?
  19. Lord of Arcana and Diner Dash aren't Final Fantasy games but you get the idea - they're all Square-Enix.
  20. Some of you may already be aware of this, but I thought I'd take the time to post about it for those who don't know. The PSP is a really good handheld emulator system, but the cost of the Memory Sticks are a real pain. The Sony Memory Cards for the PSP are really expensive. Especially new ones. Most PSP games are rather large and having emulators with loads of games takes up space pretty quick too. If you already have a Sony brand 32GB card, I don't think my info will be of much use, unless you want a second 32GB card. OK, on to my point. There are white adapters that fit the PSP and allow you to use two micro SD cards at one time. After testing, I found this to work with two 16GB micro SD cards perfectly! Once formatted in the PSP, it sees it as a single card. I paid $4.19 with free shipping for the adapter on eBay and got a pair of 16GB Sandisk micro SD cards for $15 with free shipping. That means for a little less than $20, I now have a 32GB card in my PSP. I intend to try and test the adapter with larger cards as well, but for now, this is still MUCH cheaper than the Sony cards and works just as well. Another plus, is that most people already have some micro SD cards kicking around, since so many things use them now. That means you may only need the adapter. If you happen to have two 32GB micro SD cards, you could test the adapter with them. If it works, you now have a 64GB card for your PSP! A little more info on the adapter. It's white and says PhotoFast CR-5400 MS Pro Duo Dual Slot Adapter Micro SD HC. I've read on some forums that the newest PSP firmware (both factory and custom) allow the PSP to now recognize up to 256GB, but this adapter may not be compatible with micro SD cards bigger than 16GB each, which is why it needs to be tested. There's also a black adapter, but I'm not sure if it is any different, other than the color. The PSP can emulate almost all the older systems, so if you are going that route and only have an 8 or 16GB card, this is a cheap way to upgrade your storage capacity. I'll try to test it with 32GB cards soon and let everyone know if it works or not.
  21. I modded a PSP a while back and been trying various emulators usually without an issue until I decided to use SNES9X Euphoria and Daedalus R1878. On Euphoria Super Mario Kart doesn't display properly it freezes up at the title screen, and Daedalus no sound at all. Anyone got a fix, or can suggest any other emulators, I tried one for the T16 but since the instructions weren't in English I couldn't figure it out.
  22. I have been reading many spirited debates about the graphical power of the 3DS vs the PSP. While we all know that the Vita is graphicly superior to both, how do the 3DS and PSP stack up against each other? Please discuss...
