  1. Put here everything what you will found... Shops, datasheets, examples, photos. Here is my todays google find - Pokey Quad emulator running on dsPIC33 Hmm what about back to the roots... Atari used QuadPokey in their Arcade Cabinets. So it is semi-standard. Ideal future upgrade. And there is dsPIC33 emulation. So we doesnt need to rip off pokeys from motherboards. Or buy them from arcade parts shops. We will do same as with SwinSID... Imagine 4x4=16channels on one dsPIC33 chip. Lets make QuadPokeyCart. And original 4channels Pokey will be for FX. Totally 20 channels... You will use 2xRMT module (stereo) for QuadPokey songs... Can be done. Can be tracked easily. (RMT gots MIDI and with MIDI utility for PC can be 2xRMT connected) 2x RMT is possible with this... http://www.midiox.com/ http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software.html http://www.nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html Plus in future there can be quad version of TMC or MPT too... Cool? Not cool?
  2. Very nice SID emulation: http://atariki.krap.pl/index.php/SID_Player Could someone please explain how Pokey emulates SID?
  3. So Given that there are a limited supply of pokey chips and that they mostly have to be taken from existing carts. There will be a time where they either get too cost prohibitive or push games like ballblazer to be rare. Given that wouldn't it make more sense to cannibalize one an create a pokey lock on cart like a game genie / Sonic and Knuckles. And carts that use the Pokey just lock on to the cart and gain the extra capabilities. Then the homebrew games don't need to worry about sourcing pokeys and all the other troubles and people that want the pokey can just use that one cart to boost the sound quality. What are your thoughts? Is this a dumb idea, do you think it is technically infeasible?
  4. Hello! I want to ask you about PCB for Quad Pokey upgrade. There is amazing TMC2 Tracker which supports Quad Pokey (16 channels). I will produce 10x PCB for Quad Pokey upgrade. Anyone got gerbers? EagleCAD or KiCAD? QUADRO! = Pokey 0,1,2,3 to so totally 16 channels QUADRO! TMC2 by Jaskier WE NEED PCB GENIUS HERE! I WILL MANUFACTURE 10x OR EVEN 20x PCBs IN PROFESSIONAL QUALITY COMPANY BUT I NEED ALL EAGLECAD/KICAD GERBER (PCB layout) FILES! AND PARTS BOM AND HOW TO SOLDER,WIRE MANUAL (PLACEMENT). People interested in: 1x Mono 4x Matej If you are interested in please send me PM! Also if you know CANDLE or JASKIER personally let me know (they have developed 4xpokey PCB in past).
  5. A thought just occurred to me. When I was putting the Pokey code into Pac-Man 320 / Ms. Pac-Man 320, there was a bug which occurred when the Pokey was not activated; The 'Random' address would always return the same number. Could this be a quick / easy way to check for the existence of a Pokey at a specific address? I.E. read the Random address, say 5 times, and if the same value comes out all 5 times Pokey is not there. Is this reliable?
  6. Need some troubleshooting advice. Just re-socketed Pokey on my 130XE, since I replaced the square pins on the stereo board with round ones (the board had previously been pushed into the subsequently ruined machine socket). Work on the stereo board went well, and I replaced the machine socket on the motherboard with a nice precision one. No lifted traces or any other nasties... very clean job. However, when I came to test everything after reassembly, the keyboard's stone dead. Well - not quite: pressing either shift key actually registers as the "Break" key, which is rather disconcerting. All other keys - apart from Reset - are totally unresponsive. I've tried different keyboards, but the problem's definitely on the motherboard. Checked for shorts, continuity, etc... found nothing. I'm wondering if the Break / Shift thing offers a clue; maybe one of the support chips gone? I've very closely scrutinized the keyboard scan pins which are connected to the 4051s... no visual or continuity issues there. Seems everything I touch turns to s**t at the moment, but I'd like to get this fixed as I put a hell of a lot of work into this machine.
  7. Hey peeps So I have a 7800 PROsystem AV Modded by Electronicsentimentalities and last night I was playing more or less my whole library of 7800 games. They were all coming out of my stereo speakers as beautiful unique channels. Then I popped in Ballblazer, and my sound was left channel only.. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Is it just Ballblazer, all pokey chips, or perhaps a freak side effect of the AV mod? After Ballblazer I played a few more games, and back to stereo with no issues. ?!? Any input would be appreciated, Thanks.
