I'm not sure whether anyone else has noticed, but Google have been buying a lot of property in Sunnyvale with some rather disappointing consequences for those who want to make a pilgrimage there. Firstly, there was Moffett Place, a 55 acre tech campus approved in December 2013 and built on the land south of 1265 Borregas Ave. Thus we lost the former Consumer Engineering, Consumer Sub Assembly, Consumer Final Assembly, Coin-Op Printed Circuit and 400/800/Pinball Manufacturing buildings at 1173, 1195 and 1215 Borregas Ave, 155 Moffett Park Drive and 1180 Bordeaux Drive. This was mostly leased to Google by Jay Paul after they already took all of the 26.5 acre Tech Corners just down the road and at least part of the 52 acre Moffett Towers next door as well as Moffett Gateway. Just last year, they signed leases on the units in Moffett Place and Moffett Gateway that they didn't already occupy. In 2017, Google started buying property in the area, particularly around the old WeirdStuff Warehouse. This included: 1190 Borregas Ave 1196 Borregas Ave (second Sunnyvale HQ / Computer Operations / ASRL) 1265 Borregas Ave (first Sunnyvale HQ / Coin-Op Engineering) 1272 Borregas Ave (Consumer Engineering / Microelectronics / Coin-Op Engineering) 1212 Bordeaux Drive 1330-46 Bordeaux Drive (including Consumer Chip Programming, Coin-Op Customer Service and Consumer Customer Service) 1360-68 Bordeaux Drive (including Maintenance Department and Board Games Division) 1323 Borregas Ave 1383 Borregas Ave (Consumer Warehouse? marked 1385 on the Atari map) 1393-95 Borregas Ave (Consumer Warehouse) 160 Gibraltar Court 165 Gibraltar Court (the latest acquisition, formerly TI) 140-146 West Caribbean Drive 360-394 West Caribbean Drive (including Consumer Warehouse - Components, Consumer/Coin-Op Warehouse and Consumer Warehouse - Finished Goods) ...as well as more property on First Avenue, Java Drive, Bordeaux Drive and North Mathilda Ave, bought from Verizon, and 16 acres from NetApp (about where the Atari logo is on the map). In fact, they've spent a staggering $1.4 billion on property in Sunnyvale in the past four years - 50 buildings, apparently... although I think it's more than that. This is what their acquisitions looked like in 2017 - there are more since: There are two further planning applications of particular interest: 1. Google Caribbean Campus (Project 2017-8042) In June 2018, Study Session 18-0536 proposed "to allow the redevelopment of a 40.5-acre site for two new 5-story R&D office buildings totaling 1,041,890 s.f. including a 4-level parking structure resulting in 59% FAR. The existing 679,225 s.f. of office & manufacturing buildings will be demolished." This was followed by Study Session 19-1153 in October 2019, Report to Board 20-0263 in February 2020, Report to Council 20-0356 in March and Report to Council 20-0433 in May, when the project was approved. More details are on the project page as well as the sites of designers Michelle Kaufmann Studio and BIM Designs. The decision is here. 2. 1265 Borregas (Project 2019-7507) In January 2020, Study Session 20-0160 proposed "the demolition of existing buildings and the redevelopment of four (4) parcels, including the construction of a new 5-story, 182,500 sq. ft. building (1265 Borregas Avenue), a lot line adjustment between 1265 Borregas Avenue and 160 Gibraltar Court, and construction of open space and surface parking (1190 and 1196 Borregas Avenue) serving 1265 Borregas Avenue. Phase 2 will include the demolition of the building at 160 Gibraltar Court and the construction of sports fields." It seems there is audio of the meeting. There was also Report to Board 20-0516, which appears to have been approved in May. The decision is here. Yes, they're demolishing the original HQ building. It would seem there's not enough car parking provision, so I believe they want to demolish the second HQ building and 1190 to use as the car park. A bit of a sad end to both buildings, really... but particularly one becoming the other's car park! Anyway, you can see the previous refurb plans and have a look at how the building appears today. This will leave the map of Atari buildings rather depleted: However, it's not all bad news. As you can see, they're introducing some greenery and the Moffett Park Special Plan is for an eco-friendly Smart City and a presentation was given in June on the Green Link and Manila Avenue Bikeway Project. So it would seem Google are thinking about sustainability. It is, of course, a shame that nobody bought one of the HQ buildings to use as a museum... but that's understandable, considering they paid $24 million for 1265 and $25 million for 1196! Perhaps an Atari super fan could contact the developers and ask to keep a piece of Atari history when they knock it down? What would you go for? The reception desk? The doors? The street number? I had a search and couldn't see anything about this on the forums. Sorry if this is the wrong section, but I don't see a general Atari chat - mods feel free to move it somewhere more appropriate.

Just wondering if anyone has any big plans for Atari's 50th birthday coming up in a little over a year now.. Hopefully this pandemic will have died down by then and we can start having some kind of celebrations. I'm thinking parties, parades, all-day gaming, etc. Is anyone planning anything big on the west coast? Dan

Hi everyone. For the last 20years I have had a keen interest in the the old 2600. I've previously had to part with a few that didn't work. I have now got a couple more that want to work but need a little help and I thought it's about time I learnt how to fix them. Here a the videos of the screen. Ones very fuzzy and the other just shows the space invaders image What bits do I need to replace? Any pointers would be appreciated. -
Ok, I have a Vader, a Jr. and a 7800. I use the Jr. 99% of the time and I'm really happy with the performance of it. I find the picture quality to be better on the Jr. than on the Vader. I'm considering selling the Vader and the 7800 and putting the money toward a decent sixer. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 7800, but don't play it very often. I only have 4 games for it and I just can't afford some of the games I'd be interested in having for it. I figure there's someone out there who could give it a better home and actually get some enjoyment out of it. I've always like the look of the sixers, but when it comes to the difference between the light and the heavy, is it purely cosmetic or are there differences in the the actual electronics? Is the Sears version any different/better than the Atari version or is it just a matter of looks? I can tell you I like the look of the wood grain on the Sears more than the Atari, but I'm on the fence about the silver around the switches, so it's 50/50 for me. I wouldn't mind hearing how many people prefer the look of the Sears and how many like the look of the Atari version and why. I'm interested in hearing opinions on how people feel about the price difference between the light and the heavy. For someone on a tight budget, is it worth it to try and get a heavy or just be satisfied with the light sixer? I know the ones made in Sunnyvale are higher priced, for someone who just wants a nice looking sixer to play, is it worth the difference in price? Some of you know, I'm on a fixed income. So price plays a big factor in everything. The way I figure it, all I can spend is what I make from selling my Vader and 7800 and possibly some other stuff. I don't know if it will be enough to get a decent Heavy sixer or not, but that's my goal. I guess what I'm looking for is some reassurances that a light sixer is just as good, in case I can't raise enough money for a heavy. However, if you convince me that only a heavy sixer will do, then it might force me to dig up more stuff to sell, so I can get one. (I've got another stone lodged in my kidney, so if my post is a little "weird", it's because I'm on some serious pain medications right now.)

Not too long ago I didn't even own a heavy sixer. First I found my keeper and then quickly stumbled across two more. One I bought for the sears controllers it came with (my keeper is a tele-games) and the other I found on craigslist and grabbed for the CX-10's. I'm selling one of the two here (buyers choice) along with a pair of original CX-10's, Paddles, driving controllers and a few games. A couple weeks ago, my biggest wish was a dream come true. I love the Atari 2600. I have a Light Sixer, 4 switch woody, and a Darth Vader Model. But no Heavy Sixer. I was shopping around at a retro store which sells games, movies, and CD's called Movie Trading Company. And low and behold before my eyes in the glass container out In the wild there was an original Atari VCS Heavy Sixer in the case for $50. I lost it and my mouth dropped to the floor. I immediately purchased it, brought it home, gave it a great cleaning inside and out and is now in my game room. It is in immaculate condition, all the switches work and feel great, and plays flawlessly. I am so happy to finally get this awesome piece of Atari History. I felt like a little boy getting the gift he always wanted for X-Mas. :-)

Heads up Atari 8-bit Fans! Former Atari employees Al Alcorn and Dan Kramer will be speaking at this year's "Atari Party" which will be held on Saturday June 14th in Atari's old stomping grounds of Sunnyvale California. The event is free to the public at the Sunnyvale Public Library. I've mentioned previously in other threads that Al Alcorn needs no introduction but for those who don't know, he was Atari employee #3 and the engineer who built Pong for Nolan Bushnell. He also worked on the 2600, the Cosmos, and plenty of other projects. He's briefly featured in the Steve Jobs bio film Jobs; he's the Atari manager who tells Steve Jobs he's an a$$hole. Alcorn later went on to become an Apple Fellow. If you are unfamiliar with Dan "The TrakBall Man" Kramer, he created the TrakBalls for both the 2600 and 5200 amongst many other projects back at Atari Inc. [the 2800, remote control joysticks, the Cosmos, etc]. There will be plenty of Atari 8-bit computer hardware present, as well as 16-bit STs, Atari arcade machines, and the various Atari game systems [as well as modern consoles, and PCs emulating classic Atari titles]. SOLD! I'm going to be doing a bit of Spring cleaning soon. Since I'm really hurting on funds, I plan on selling my Atari 2600 Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer. It has been in my basement for a while, so I'd like to test the system before selling it. The system worked the last time I used it. It is in good cosmetic condition. RF cable has a little wiring exposed near the opening on the console, but I wrapped it with electrical tape. I plan on selling this system with the power supply and maybe a controller or two if requested. Might add more to this package. Don't be afraid to give me some polite input if you have a reasonable offer. I will post pictures soon, or I can send photos by PM or email. I accept Paypal. Thanks for looking! Sadly, the system tries to run the game, displays properly for a few seconds, then gives out. My 4 switch had this issue until I gave it the correct power supply. I'm using a black Atari power supply with the big logo. It says it's compatible with the CX-2600. Made in Taiwan. From my understanding, there were a number of different power supplies for the Heavy Sixer. Early ones were grey. If you're still interested, I will sell it as-is for a massive discount. $25 excluding shipping. Please make an offer if that doesn't sound good. I can still send photos. It's a bit dusty, but in good shape. All aluminum switches are there and work fine. Not dirty at all, but could use light cart slot cleaning. Sunnyvale sticker is fully intact. Was once repaired by Atari2600.com based on the sticker on the bottom. Trim, woodgrain, plastic, and Atari logo are in very nice shape. I am not the first owner and did not mistreat it. I would consider this system worth restoring. I'd like to work with you on making a deal anyway. I can't repair it as I don't have the funds to invest in it. Let me know if you're still interested!
