  1. During the last months I fixed a few bugs in the The!Cart CPLD logic and added a new feature to disable the The!Cart config registers when emulating foreign cartridge types. The new logic improves compatibility with existing cartridge images and prevents accidental flash corruption in case some program hits The!Cart config registers by mistake. We've tested the logic for quite some time without any issues, but now we need your help to test it on a broader variety of systems. If you know how to update the Xilinx CPLD logic via JTAG (it's the same procedure as with U1MB and incognito) here's the neccessary info: Download the beta logic (140209) from here: http://www.horus.com/~hias/thecart/logic/ If you run into issues with the beta logic, just program the original logic (131027) and you are fine again. Here are the detailled update instructions, with pictures of the PCB and the location of the JTAG pins: http://www.horus.com/~hias/thecart/jtag-update-docs/ Please report back here with your results or if you have questions. so long & thanks for your help, Hias
  2. Today I recorded the long pending how-to video to show how easily you can put the original The!Cart PCB into the 3D printed shell. To keep the shell project separate from the The!Cart and the The!Cart Studio, I created this separate thread. The download of the latest 3D model files is available on my web site. Bernhard would also print individual shells on request. Price would be around 15 EUR, I think. If you are interested, please send PM to biobern. Note: This this is about the original The!Cart PCB version 1 and not about the upcoming The!Cart PCB Version 2. The planned run of The!Cart PCB Version 2 will have a smaller PCB and a smaller shell, too.
  3. In October a brand new flexible Atari 8-bit cartridge named The!Cart will be released as part of the ABBUC Hardware Contest . I support the project with the software to create cartridge images of up to 128 MB. The software named The!Cart Studio is based on the ideas of the Maxflash Cartridge Studio and adds additional features like support for up to 16384 entries, import of ".CAR" cartridge files, incremental flashing and a menu with a Google like search. It is written in pure Java and runs fine on Window, Linux and Mac OS X. It comes with English and German localization. The first download and documentation of the preview version are available here . The sources are available here here. All feedback is welcome! Note: The resulting images are primarily intened for the new large cartridge, so you won't be able to test the output yet (anyway I first had for implement Google like search Atari part -)
  4. Hello, the recent batch of The!Cart was sold out in the ABBUC shop in just a few days, so we are thinking about a new batch with support from the ABBUC. https://www.wudsn.com/index.php/productions-atari800/tools/thecart Estimated price is 75 EUR plus shipping for ABBUC members. Wolfgang (head of the ABBUC) also mentioned that it might be possible, as it was done in case of the Mega-Speedy, also for non-member for a few EUR more. Details depend on the demand. So to get an idea of the demand, I create this separate thread. If are interested, please post shortly as "<handle>: <number of carts> cartridges". Another question is, if there a people (already current users) who would be interested in a dedicated USB based burner. No such device exists yet! Price would be around 40-45 EUR. If you are interested in such a thing, please also indicate that. Regards, Peter.
  5. After 5 years of hard work I'm extremely proud to present what we've just released at Silly Venture 2k18. requires The!Cart and a datasette works on unexpanded Atari 400 with 16k RAM or higher machine works on both PAL and NTSC machines, PAL recommended only uses passive ROMs and standard tapes, no external CPU, microcontroller etc. 384 x 232 pixels, full overscan display 50 frames per second, dynamically adapted on NTSC real voice audio from the "educational soft" left tape channel additional intro and outro part resulting in 5:35 total runtime 177 MB of raw video compressed to 41 MB of video using unique ANTIC hardware compression 29 MB uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio recorded on the tape After 5 years of working on Bad Apple it was finished in September and then I had the idea to add the intro and outro. The past 6 weeks with Lucy and MotionRide made this the best this for me personally since I've created Silly Things and RGBA. The main part is it not important for me anymore - the intro and outro and the love that work that went into it are what make this an achivement for me personally. Story: http://www.wudsn.com/index.php/productions-atari800/demos/badapplehd Download: http://www.wudsn.com/productions/atari800/badapplehd/badapplehd.zip Notes: - The first person who can name the reference on the final screen will get a free beer from me - I plan to make actual tapes available via Retronics. - Additional The!Carts can be ordered soon. - A version with POKEY instead of tape is on the todo list, not sure it'll work out.
