  1. A couple of years ago, I referenced Omega's article for BBS/Internet connectivity for the TI via a UDS-10 device. Time and lack of a proper serial connection have kept me from further pursing this, but I'd still love to make it work. So quick question: can anyone provide a link/lead to a proper serial cable/adapter? I'd be interested in buying a pre-configured adapter/cable/jumper box, too, if it that even exists. I've already configured the UDS-10 based on Omega's instructions. I just need the proper physical serial connection between the TI and the UDS-10. (BTW, I've already tried re-soldering a single straight-though serial cable...it was time consuming and not at all easy to manipulate. And it also doesn't work. So I'm aiming for something a bit more straight-forward and easy.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and if there are any newer/better methods for TI connectivity available at this point, I'm all ears. Thanks!
  2. Has anyone ever connected an RJ-45 WiFi dongle (like the one pictured) to their Lantronix UDS-10? I'd like to put my backup TI & P-Box in another room and use it to get on the Internet but want to make sure I'm not wasting my time. Would this work? The Lantronix has it's own IP number, but wouldn't the dongle also need an IP number to communicate with the router? Would one IP number get in the way and block the other in a series type or stacked arrangement? I simply have no clue, but it would be great to have a WiFi-TI!
  3. I recently obtained a little gadget that some of you may or may not know about, it's called a Lantronix UDS-10. It can get your old Classic Computer on the Internet. It acts like a modem, but it handles all the telnet protocols internally. One end hooks up to your classic computers RS-232, the other end uses an Ethernet cable and plugs into your router. I was amazed to find "GOBS" of active BBS's on the Internet. In my gallery << HERE >> you can see some images of the unit and a screen shot of the TI connected to one of the BBS's. << HERE >> Is the eBay search string. Sometimes you might have to wait a week or two to find a good, but you should be able to get one under $30.00 (shipping included) if you are patient.
  4. To those of you who have Lantronix UDS-10's and have been having problems downloading from Heatwave BBS lately, Kyle figured out the problem. The problem started right after Heatwave switched from port 23 to 9640 to stop hacking attempts made by bots to the nearly universal port 23. Anyway, most UDS-10 users use the odd default port of 10001. Well, for some unknown reason, (one I would like to understand), the two non-standard ports of 10001 and 9640 do not play well together. The easy solution/fix is to just change your UDS-10 to port 23 and the downloads will start working again.
  5. Okay, here I go again, thinking up stuff.... Those of you using the HDX modification know that it's one of the slickest things to come along for quite some time. Another wonderful aspect of this HDX program is that it will link to other programs and funnel the information between them, like TI99 Print for instance. This got me to thinking, how about a "TI 99 TELNET" program? The idea of the TELNET program would be to link the slower TI to your PC, which is of course is connected to the Internet. This program could be designed to allow the user with a standard program like TELCO to access the BBS's on the internet as the TI 99 TELNET program would handle all the required protocols for telnet usage. I suppose someone with an old TI could even hook it up and run a BBS, just like in the old days. Does this sound interesting to anyone?
