  1. Hi, I recently got a good deal on an original GEC model Vectrex system. It's in amazing condition, and works great. But there is one issue. When I play the built in Game Mine Storm (I do not have any other games yet) moving the stick LEFT will make me spin RIGHT endlessly until I move the stick RIGHT to stop it, rather then turn me LEFT. Moving the stick right works perfect, and the buttons are fine, but what can I do about the controller? Is the problem even with my controler or the system? What is wrong? What can I do? Oh a and it would probably help to add that I hear a little rattel inside the controller when I pick it up. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
  2. With D2k Arcade on the way, the time has finally come for me to get an Intellivision! However, I do have a couple of questions that I was hoping you guys could answer. Which model do you think I should get? I was thinking that the original would be the best option, but I am not sure. I am wanting to get the voice module eventually, and perhaps the ECS if that helps. How much would a good starter set cost? I would like to get about 5-10 good games to go along with D2k. I have made the mistake of only getting a couple of games for a new system before, and wound up losing interest fast. I am really looking forward to adding the Intellivision to my collection. Hopefully you guys can help me get off to a good start. Thanks Aaron
  3. So, I bought a like-new C64 from a guy who had kept it in his closet for decades - this is one of the classic ones with the brown keys. I typed in some BASIC programs to test the SID and other components and everything turned out great. Signal is clear as a bell to boot. Now for the difficult part: What do I need to do to keep this thing running as is? Any points of failure that are common to these NTSC models? This thing is running a little *too* perfect, so I'm a little paranoid that it's going to fail at any moment.
  4. Hello All; I am a new developer to the 2600 programming scene and I haven’t really got any previous assembly programming experience especially in 6502. I have been working on a game in which the player is a spaceship that can move freely around the playing field and there will be enemies and other things coming down the screen that the ship has to blow up, dodge collect ect.. The code I have uploaded is my best effort at putting together a framework to create such a game. However I have stumbled into several issues I feel I need advice from a more seasoned developer. The first issue with the drawing kernel is that I don’t keep track of the player line correctly when jumping to another mini kernel to draw an enemy as well as the player. I was wondering if anyone could look at this code and advise me how the code could be modified to fix this issue. The second issue is that I am struggling to keep a constant scanline count when I add more complex routines after drawing the frame. This is because of loops that can take a varying number of cycles to complete depending on the items on screen and the more branching gets introduced. I have an example of this in my “game field processing routine” And finally to progress the framework further I need to be able to horizontally position the enemy sprites independently. I haven’t even tried this as I feel I need advice on how to do this as the positioning routines I know of all require you to consume two whole scanlines to enable the fine positioning. There is a whole raft of other things I want to add like animation of sprites but I want to get a solid foundation before I progress the game further. Any help would be greatly appreciated! src.zip kernel.bin
  5. as the title says, recent noob in the c64 scene, want some advice so I don't miss out on anything good
  6. Kelsey (who owns two retro gaming stores in Seattle) and I share our TIPS & TRICKS for haggling at retro game stores, expos, garage sales & craigslist. Our years of game collecting AND store ownership offer a unique perspective on getting the best deal AND being respectful to the other party. TIPS: Garage sales are typically the easiest Be nice & respectful Know what is popular & what isn't Retail store prices have business expenses added Slow selling games are sometimes easier to haggle with Buy in bulk if possible Politely point out cosmetic flaws Engage seller in conversation Flaws may already be factored into the price Trading games sometimes is more valuable than cash! What did we forget? What other suggestions would you offer to other game collectors looking to perfect the art of the deal?
  7. I'm developing a scavenger hunt-like game based on the 1979 film, Alien. I realize there's already an Alien game on the Atari 2600, but I wanna make a game that's not a Pac-man clone. Anyway, I'm not very good at creating nice-looking sprites. Does anyone have any advice or tips on making sprites?
