  1. Hi y'all, and Happy New Year! I recently picked up a heavy 6-switcher on eBay, which had an AV mod fitted (by "Atarimania9", a UK seller from London). I am finding that all the carts which came with the console, are fine - but any new ones I buy (and I've purchased carts from about 8 different UK sellers) are ALL playing in black and white only?? So, could the problem be that I have an NTSC console (and supplied carts), but playing UK (PAL) carts is the issue? Cheers all, and best wishes,. Matt.
  2. OK, I didn't know if I should post this here or in Hardware, so I just put it here. I just got a 2600 Jr. today and it has a few issues. When you first turn it on, with any game or the Harmony cart, it takes probably 10 seconds before the picture shows up on the TV. When you put a Battlezone cart in and turn it on, it takes a few seconds, then you get the radar and some other random bits of the picture kind of jumping around the screen, then it will show up correctly, but with a very dim picture. In a couple of seconds, the picture brightens up and the colors are all good. If Demons to Diamonds is inserted, same wait time on start-up, but the color and brightness are good. Now, here's the big problem. When you hit reset to start Demons to Diamonds, it goes from color to Black and White. Unplugging the rca cable from the back of the console and then slowly putting it back, will allow you to see a split second of color before it goes B&W again. The same thing happens using the Demons and Diamonds .bin on the Harmony Encore. Also, With the Harmony, if you switch it off, while it's B&W and then switch it right back on, the Harmony menu is in B&W. Switching it off and on again, results in color. The Jr. isn't modded and an inspection of the board showed no bad solder joints or leaky caps. The Serial is A1781245617 The board is CO21503 Revision C On most games, it looks great, the colors and the picture are better than my AV modded Vader and 7800, other than the lack of a picture for a few seconds when you turn it on. Demons to Diamonds is the only game I've found so far that triggers the B&W issue, but I feel like that's a sign of something needing repair. So, does anyone have an answer as to what's wrong with it?
  3. Hello Everyone! I haven't been able to find this specific issue on AtariAge, Youtube or through Google. Maybe if I knew the correct term to describe the issue I'd find ten thousand solutions, so I'm a little nervous mentioning my issue here. Here's the short version: I have a heavy sixer that consistently outputs video in black and white with many well spaced vertical lines evenly spaced throughout the image. It looks like this: Excuse the blurriness of the image, that's my shaky hand. The image on screen is actually quite crisp. Note that this is with the color mode selected, but the display appears in black and white with vertical lines throughout. The signal itself appears to be quite strong, it's not too fuzzy and doesn't have much of any interference. The getting longer version: The above image is in 'color', the actual black and white mode looks to be what you'd expect: I spent a week working on the issue, I cleaned all the slot and cartridge contacts, replaced one then the other 22uF Capacitor, I replaced the 2200uF Capacitor, then I replaced the 5v regulator. Using a multimeter I took a few samples and the numbers are in the range that I expect. All this time I was using a Coaxial F Plug to go to the TV. Then I thought back to a long time ago when I remembered the system actually outputting color and (guessed) that maybe I was using the original RF switch. So I tried that, and guess what happened? Color. So I thought to myself, I didn't know a F Plug would have this effect, but I'm so happy it's working I'll call it a week and put the system back together and consider myself lucky. But once I put the system all back together and tested it one more time with the RF Switch? Back to Black and White with vertical lines. And let me tell you, in the week I was working to fix the problem I must have tried the system 30 times, five different games on two TVs (An HDTV is pictured, the other is a 1990s Trinitron). Every time was black and white with vertical lines. It seems like so much of a coincidence that as soon as I tried it with the RF Switch everything worked great, but alas it was only one time. At this point, I'd be happy just to hear someone else say they've seen this issue before. As I said before my esteem is already low because my searches have been fruitless. The video cable looks in great shape from the box all the way to the tip. Games work immediately when I turn the system power on every time. Are there more places I should check the voltage? Any other suggestions?
  4. I am messing around with a 7800 for the first time, which was handed over to me by a mechanic friend after he found it in a car he bought. It is partially functional but having some problems also. The console boots up 7800 games pretty reliably, but they are all in black and white. I have not been able to get any 2600 games to run. A couple of them for just a fraction of a second flashed their initial screens before disappearing. Are these common problems with common solutions? Are these related problems?
  5. I just got my new 2017 Flashback Portable and I am having issues with the a/v out, it only displays in Black and white, why??? As for thr integrated display it works just fine and is an awesome unit, but when I plug it into the TV it comes out black and white. Please tell me how to fix it. Thanks.
  6. I'm new here! Well, not entirely. I actually lurked a bit before posting, but here I am requesting help from one of the biggest pools of knowledge on Atari anything! I just got in this 7800 from an Ebay ad that I was very disappointed with in general. That's another story though. WAY too many problems with the shipment, description, condition, communication, etc. One of two Ebay problems I've had total. Good record, I'd say! The 7800 is in cosmetically good shape. It runs smoothly (full color) for 7800 games with my RCA to RF adapter, but can only display 2600 games in black and white with hints of yellow. I tried the pause button, but nothing happened. After a bit of Google sleuthing, I came up with this page: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/88442-25-atari-7800-showing-colour-2600-mode-please How he fixed it made my heart sink a bit. My soldering skills are less than favorable, plus I don't currently have the tools for this kind of fix. I've opened up a 4 Switch Atari VCS and cleaned it with great success. Brought it back from the dead, more or less. Do you guys think I can fix this myself? Or, is there anyone out there who knows how to fix it and would be willing to help? Thanks in advance! Hope to hear some good news about this 7800's backwards compatibility.
