Dear community, first of all, happy new year to everyone. I hope you already started well into the new year. Recently, I was looking for some "easy" Bluetooth / Atari CX40 Joystick adapters and found @tschak909's post. As it seems, currently there are no such solutions available. (I hope this is still applicable?) So, I've been thinking about it for the past few days and decided to sketch a very high-level concept what could be done. I would like to avoid any design faults (and even maybe someone would like to participate somehow), so it’s publicly available on GitHub: https://github.com/cwanized/CX2BTLE/wiki/Introduction (please keep in mind, this is a first draft about some ideas. Spelling etc. not checked yet😇) I am not experienced just yet with the ESP32 (in my former company I used to use Microchip PIC/NEC Microcontroller), but what I have seen so far, it should be pretty straight forward. (Astonishing what they have integrated in such a small chip). Furthermore, it would be nice if it is possible to support additional devices and different peripherals (e.g., Sega Controllers etc). Currently I am not sure if this is doable, but if I am going to design a PCB, I should keep these devices /peripherals in mind. Any thoughts? Great idea or just a waste of time? Best regards Chris

Hi All, Thought I'd ask before trying to recreate the wheel. LOL Any thoughts/experience on whether bluetooth could be used to replace the bulky PEB connection to the console? I tried searching the forum, but didn't see anything related to this topic. Sparkfun had some modules at one point and thought it might be fun to see if it would work. Thanks! Robert

Here is a video of me beating quickman with this thing. It's alright, for $20 you can't go wrong. For those of you who haven't heard, play asia released a bluetooth adapter for NES last week. It's alright !

Last night I fired up my VCS for only the second time since I bought it last week, and attempted to pair my Bluetooth controllers... I couldn't get them to stay connected to save my life. I have three official Atari controllers, and I also tried two, different Bluetooth controllers. They all connected, but then lost the connection about 10-feet from the console. It was beyond frustrating trying to play Centipede (or anything). I have the latest bios, the latest firmware updates, and the latest controller updates. I even turned off WiFi (used Ethernet) to avoid interference. I even placed the VCS about 4-feet off the floor to give it a clear range. Pathetic. I finally settled on playing via USB cable, which didn't work well at all. All of which to say, I investigated the Bluetooth chip used in the VCS, and it appears to have "Bluetooth 5.0" capability. However, the VCS is rated to have Bluetooth 4.0. That's significant, because Bluetooth 5.0 has a range of up to 800-feet, whereas Bluetooth 4.0 maxes out at a paltry 33-feet (on a good day, apparently). So, my question is... would it be possible for Atari to release an update that enables this chip's Bluetooth 5.0 ability, or is it limited in some other way by the motherboard or other hardware? The chip itself seems ready to go, so I can't figure out why they'd hobble this capability and stick us with this crappy controller range. Any of your more technically-minded folks have any ideas on whether a 5.0 upgrade could be possible?

From the album: Chromebook Unboxing Mar 2013
My Nexus 7 set up with my Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard/Stand combo. Prior to picking up the Chromebook this is what I was using for productivity. It wasn't ideal but it got the job done. Made me miss having a laptop though© 2013 Curtis Mitchell

I just dropped a new video on YouTube going over a more comprehensive teardown of the Atari VCS. It goes beyond just taking it apart, and goes into some of the hardware that I found inside. I also talk about a nice upgrade that isn't documented. Check it out and let me know what you think. I know I'm a little late to the teardown of it as there are already some out there, but I feel this one points out some things that the others that I've watched do not. Also, please consider subscribing to my channel Digitally Entertained so that you can watch for more of my video on the VCS that I have planned. Thanks!
