  1. Hi, in order to avoid flooding Atari Age forum with topics, I decided to create an universal topic for all my new songs, which I will use from now on. And here comes the first new cover tune, coming from Super Nintendo Entertainment System's game Final Fantasy VI. Uses stereo POKEY, doublespeed player routine. RMT, SAP and XEX files attached. https://soundcloud.com/pseudografx/final-fantasy-vi-terras-theme FF6-Terra.zip
  2. Here's the full concert... if you like it please comment on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqWZ6NBiVbg
  3. Hi, I just wanted to share my latest cover, and coincidentally there is another Mega Man 2 cover in the other thread . Anyway, hope you'll like it. https://soundcloud.com/pseudografx/mega-man-2-dr-willys-castle-pokey-cover
  4. TIA on percussion and white noise. DPC on everything else. Before anybody asks, the graphics are just a mockup GIF, there is no binary, sadly. Should be doable, I'd imagine, with a DPC/DPC+ chip, though!
  5. Given how much interest there is in POKEY music in other threads, I'm surprised I've never seen mention here on AtariAge about this album, released about 2 months ago. I first heard it referred to on a recent episode of the ANTIC Podcast. Forget the other threads and their technical programming nuances - this is just good chiptune magic right here, and recorded from with an 800XL. I've played this record dozens of times since I first heard it.
  6. Hey, I've released a new music album that contains 11 tracks written between 2010-2015 for Atari pokey sound chip (found in 8-bit Atari computers) with Raster Music Tracker. I thought this might interest a few folks here. Check it out: https://warlord.bandcamp.com/album/pokey-nights
  7. Does anyone know of a good source for high quality Electronica Club style music in Atari PoKey format? All I can find (on YT) are just music from games and demos. I'm looking for some long playing stuff. Good Dance / Trance (or whatever they call it now) music. BTW, this was asked of me by a pretty female, so it's rather important to me. Emkay, this is your opportunity to shine. [High quality] SID emulation stuff is just fine. Whatever sounds good (especially to her) will make me happy. I want to introduce her to the pleasure of Atari (instead of the ugly commie)... Thanks in advance. If we can compile enough of this in one place, it may be possible to start a club and create a following, but we will need a very large playlist. Just an idea... Form one PoKey fan to another. Imagine a worldwide PoKey dance club franchise.
  8. Undertale - Muffet Song - Spider Dance STORY I really like this music and wanted to create a ColecoVision version of it. So I took a day listening to the original music and multiple covers including the great acapella version by Smooth McGroove. I took a day to decide the way I wanted my version to sound like and coded the first 30 seconds, added the valid cartridge header and very simple needed routines to work properly. 9. I get messages asking how do I compose music for the ColecoVision. I hope this will answer your questions. SCREENSHOTS The only softwares I'm using to compose music for years now. VIDEO The music playing on BlueMSX at 50Hz clock And that's it. I'm not using any music tool nor a midi keyboard which I would like to use; I use my imagination and start coding with time and dedication, trials and errors. STORY TIME Late April 2018 With the positive comments received about my CV Commando music-box, and not yet decided about a game project to do, I wanted to compose another CV song during the last week of April. After watching multiple videos of beloved 80s music, and some videos about a SNES ROM hack called GrandPooBear World filled with music, I've finally selected Africa by Toto. I was a bit afraid to not be able to make it sounds good after hearing the Commodore 64 version I've found that I didn't like much, but the song repeats enough and uses an interesting rhythm variation that I love composing with a drum beat (usually when we *clap* our hands) at every 3/4 per bar (measure), like in Commando and many other songs I've composed so far. April 28, 2018 I went babysitting to help a friend who desperately needed someone for an hour or two. On my way back home, I've stopped at a coffee shop to compose my vision of the ColecoVision version of this music. After many hours calculating and tweaking what each sound channel should do to get a pretty good version of the chorus part, and probably looking like a weirdo moving my hands in the air to the music nobody was hearing, I've decided to stop there, send an email, and let my ears relax. My calculations surprised me to see that power of 2s cycles per note were ideal for the PAL version and so I've decided to go with it. FILE: toto-20180428.zip April 29, 2018 Encouraged by what I've started, I've composed the music intro (riff part) which added the xylophone instrument and a reverb voice effect. But hearing both parts back to back felt a bit off. After some tweaking by reducing the duration of the drum sounds to give more time for the bass notes, both parts sounded finally great together (uniformity of the rhythm). Then I got a call; my friend needed my help again. Back home, I've composed a verse by using the same trick as in Time Pilot by playing the same note on 2 channels but slightly different to get almost the same effect as singing on multiple tracks. (save) FILE: toto-20180429.zip April 30, 2018 After dinner, I've started to compose pretty much everything else which added the flute (recorder) instrument, with the help of some music sheets. I've also tweaked the high pitched notes in the chorus part to not be that loud compared to the rest of the song. I had to stop before completing the solo part; my eyes were redder than ever, it was time to sleep. As a surprise and email test, I've sent this file to some Coleco homebrewers and fans; got a bunch of emails bouncing back but some reached destination. FILE: toto-20180430.zip May 1st, 2018 At lunchtime, I took a moment to complete the solo. Finally! Time to share it online! I've created this post on AtariAge and sent a message on Twitter about it. (save) FILE: toto-20180501.zip Not bad, isn't it? I've even muted one of the 3 tones channels to use its frequency to play bass notes on the noise channel. And keep in mind the sound chip has fewer possibilities than many other sound chips of the time, no triangle wave, no PCM sample, nothing. Simulated instruments: drum *clap*, maraca, bass, keyboard, guitar, flutes, xylophone, voice, chorus. Share and Comment :-)
  10. I'm leaving here the first draft of a music I'm currently working on. It's based on a famous chiptune many should recognize. It took me about 3 hours to figure out the proper notes, sound effects and what overall feels nice to my ears (essentially means, I am able to listen without the feeling that something is out of place). Keep in mind that I code music note by note, no help of any music tracker, it's all done by hand which takes a lot of time, patience, a minimum of music knowledge, and listening to the original material over and over again. You can try to compile the music data in a program with the proper calls to the Coleco OS sound routines, check the coding guides, OS7 ColecoVision BIOS listing. It should also work with ADAM EOS sound routines since they are essentially the same. You can also try to use a keyboard and play the notes mentioned in the comments. You can also play directly the data with one of my sound tools without compiling anything. Hint: the capital letters HS refer to the words High Score. And for those who really can't try the music data listings, at least you can listen to the result. YM-DIGITAL the Atari 520ST band - along with the drummer Pinokio - will play a gig at "RetroKomp /LOAD ERROR 2017" multiplatform party, taking a place in 20-22.10.2017. The club's name is "Scena Muzyczna GAK", its address is: Powstańców Warszawskich Street no. 25, 80-152 Gdańsk, Poland. GoogleMaps: http://tiny.pl/gd8dh The party's site: http://retrokomp.org/?lang=en_US The band's site: http://ym-digital.i-demo.pl/ The club's site: http://www.scenamuzyczna.pl/ The concert might sound like this but of course with ST instead of Falcon. Another thing is, I dunno how about Factor6 but I don't have enough of material, so I intend to play some of my Falcon and TT songs too. We will play in 20.10.2017. But if You'd be interested in ATARI XL/XE too, then a day later - 21.10.2017 - in the same place, Pinokio will play a solo gig with ATARI 8bit and drums. Which definitely will sound like this Regards. Y
  13. Good morning everyone! No, this is not clickbait... it's real. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the ColecoVision game system To show my music composing talent And to show how I don't care about drama, about being imposed restrictions in my hobby. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN RAINBOW BRITEtm JUKEBOX MUSIC FOR THE ADAM COMPUTER, COLECOVISION AND COMPATIBLE SYSTEMS BY NEWCOLECO AKA DANIEL BIENVENU Please leave a like and comment! Enjoy! ROM FILE : RAINBOW BRITE JUKEBOX 2017.zip SOURCE FILE : RAINBOW BRITE JUKEBOX 2017 (SRC FILES).zip FAQ Q: Software to make the music? A: My own software CVSoundGen.zip and 2 days of patience and listening the theme song in chunks with Audacity. Q: Development kit? A: My own kit based on Marcel deKogel's devkit released in 1998 and adapted to work with SDCC compiler. Q: Can I use this music and sounds for my own projects? A: No, unless I tell you otherwise. Q: Will there be a playable game Rainbow Brite for the ColecoVision? A: Maybe, maybe not. Q: Why you decided to make a jukebox with the Rainbow Brite theme song? A: For fun. First time ever I've heard the music and I quite like how catchy and groovy it sounds as a chiptune.
  14. I finally completed my XGM / VGM player that i started more than 1 year ago It's still not perfect, has some bugs (refresh, playback issues with fast tempo...) but i am happy enough with it's current state so i think it can be released =) XGM player is intended to play XGM music through the XGM driver i developed for Sega Megadrive. I developed a tool to convert Megadrive VGM file into XGM format so you can basically see the XGM player as a Megadrive VGM player... This tool is called xgmtool which is part of SGDK, you can also use it to optimize your Megadrive VGM files (and it does a very good job here compared to others tools). The main difference between VGM and XGM is that XGM allows to play up to 4 PCM at same time where classic Megadrive VGM is limited to 1 PCM channel only... that is an handy feature for game where you can play several SFX at same time through PCM channels, it can be used for richer music as well but currently no tracker support the XGM format. Another interesting part is that XGM format is optimized for Megadrive sound hardware so files are generally 25% smaller than optimized VGM. Currently i only provide a test rom to introduce the XGM player capabilities, and for that what better than a Technosoft compilation Musics from the following games are included in the rom : - Dragon's Fury - Elemental Master - Thunder Force 2/3/4 - Herzog Zwei Because of rom size limitation i could not include all tracks for those games so i made a (personal) selection of 80 tracks. You can download the rom here: https://t.co/xwc9cumECg Small animation : https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CnHGA82WIAAuo9B.mp4

  16. hey guys , i have a mssiah synthcart from 8-bit ventures for my c-64 and i was wondering if there exists anywhere a synthcart for the atari 8-bit machines to access the pokey chip in a similar way as mssiah. i have looked every where and even asked 8-bit ventures if they would do one and they said they had no intentions of making one . if one does'nt exist, is there anyone that knows basic well enough to make something like this ? could put the program on a flashcart maybe ? and modify the computer with midi? Also does anyone do midi modifications to the 800xl ? i just really want to be able to control the pokey chip through my daw and midi sequence it like i do with my c64. i love the way the pokey sounds , probably even over the SID. any good direction on this would be awesome . please help i have been trying for well over a year for a solution . thanks alot

  19. Hey there, im looking for a programmer familiar with intellivision basic . to write a very simple program that is basically like a modded ,more in depth version of the intellivision synth stock program that comes on the ECS . i use and love whats there by default but i would love to cycle through some more sounds to play . and if it could be made to load through the tape data slot on the ECS that would be awesome as well ,as there is not a valid multicart out anymore . id be willing to pay a bit and it would also be helping the community as well . thanks . !!

  21. Greetings, I've just been trying to load this program on my 800XL from a disk image available here: http://jaskier.atari8.info/# - It's TMC2.atr It loads for a minute and then displays a DOS-looking prompt. I'm new to Atari 8-bit comps, so I don't know what the problem is. I thought with these machines the prog would load automatically when the machine powers on. Does the same in an emulator, and I have a disk full of games that loads just fine. The amount of time I've spent on this is starting to get ridiculous, so I'm hoping someone can just tell me in 5 seconds what it is I need to do Thanks!
