  4. I'm pretty strapped for cash, but am really wanting some cool atari 8-bit stuff to go with my new XEGS I've got coming. So I figured why not try and trade? Ability to read an SD card would be primo (like the SIDE cart, would be my number one pick). ANYWAYS.... I understand these MBX's are pretty hard to get/obscure and I have one in the box (decent to ratty shape for the box only) that looks great. Unit Joystick and PS with baseball book and overlay (no headset) all look fantastic. It worked great many years ago and has recently been rescued from my attic. EXTRA: Also have a set of single button joysticks on Y cable and the voice module FWIW. Anyone have some snazzy XEGS compat hardware they wanna trade??? If the TI ain't your thing, i've got two CoCo2's (one with box) and some misc coco materials.
  5. In case you haven't heard, my latest book, written with Boisy G. Pitre, officially came out in paperback a few weeks back. It's called "CoCo: The Colorful History of Tandy's Underdog Computer," and tells the complete history of Radio Shack's Color Computer, complete with interviews with many of the people involved in the platform's creation and support. It already has a bunch of great reviews, with more coming to various podcasts, Websites, and magazines. (Publisher link: http://www.crcpress.com/product/isbn/9781466592476) (Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1466592478/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=armcharcad-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=1466592478&adid=17FYR1FBTFSRGWJ08FXW&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.armchairarcade.com%2Fneo%2F) (Recent blog post about it: http://www.armchairarcade.com/neo/node/5632) The color ebook should be available soon (I'll try to remember to post again when that's available). By the end of February/Early March, my next book in the "Vintage Games" series (first book link), written with Matt Barton, should be out. It's a full color book that covers 20 of the greatest game playing platforms (computers, consoles, handhelds) of all-time entitled, "Vintage Game Consoles: An Inside Look at Apple, Atari, Commodore, Nintendo, and the Greatest Gaming Platforms of All Time." I'll also try to do a separate post when that's officially available, but for now, you can read more about it here and check out the Amazon page: http://www.armchairarcade.com/neo/node/5620
  6. So I am at the point now where i've familiarized myself just enough with the Tandy Color Computer 2 interface and history and whatnot that I can load some DSK images from the CocoSDC and I even managed to sort of customize an old type-in christmas program from a 1982 issue of The Rainbow magazine. From what i've been able to tell, there isn't currently a menu system for the CodoSDC for loading images. What i'm wondering is would it be possible to write a very "basic" Basic menu that has a list of the games in a given directory and uses the cursor keys or the joystick to move through the list and select a game. From there, the program could issue the Drive 0,"game" and LoadM"game.bin" commands for me. I don't have a particularly good understanding of Extended Color Basic yet so i'm not sure how to approach this and where i'd look for useful references, but it does sound like it would be useful at least as far as static game lists are concerned.

  9. While looking for information on the Cloud-9 Technology SuperIDE, I came across their Liber809 module, which replaces the 6502 CPU and 16K ROM and allows an Atari port of NitrOS-9 to be run. Being both an Atari and a CoCo collector, I'm thinking this may be a fun experiment in "Hybrid" 8-bit technology but I'm anticipating defamatory comments from the Atari die-hards here. Thoughts? http://www.cloud9tech.com/
  10. Hello all..... Have done some reading up on why older systems look rubbish on new monitors, like the photo I've attached of my Coco 3 hooked up to my old Bravia. That pic isnt too bad but text is horrible especially in 80 column mode. Been reading up on the VGA adaptor made by Roy Justus and it looks like a great piece of equipment. He was good enough to reply to my email letting me know he's not making them at the moment but will in future (This was last month). When he decides to build them again, I'm still going to buy one but is there something else I can use in the meantime? (Didn't realise how much I missed that old machine....emulators are great but much prefer the real thing!) Thanks.
  11. Closing tonight at 8:15 PM Central; working, boxed Tandy Color Computer 3. Includes computer, box with matching serial number, cassette interface cable, Extended BASIC manual, "Introducing your Color Computer 3" manual, and quick reference guide. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 253445005714
  12. I just found my old TRS-80 MC-10 computer today. Almost forgot about this little guy! I found it and the manual (have no idea where that is...) in the only large load of TRS-80 Color computer items I ever found in the late 90's at the beginning of my retro gaming and computing phase. Never have had the original power supply or any cables, but it did and still works on an Atari 400/800 power supply enough for me to tinker with it. I programmed in a few BASIC programs from the manual into it years back. Now I need to find that manual again, a correct power supply, and maybe some other accessories for this little computer. Anyone else out there remember this little CoCo?
  13. Howdy, I have some new 8bit systems that I'd like to sell... 14. I have three very clean CoCo 2s for sale and a painted CoCo 1. I take them apart and clean everything. Next to buying new, this is the next best thing. I have sold countless CoCos and test each one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/263576669245 https://www.ebay.com/itm/263576711109 https://www.ebay.com/itm/263576713816 https://www.ebay.com/itm/263576719045
  15. I am having a problem with my TRS-80 Color Computer 2, it will not load cassettes. I just bought a new cable for it on Ebay, as i did not have one. The seller said it was made himself, it was hooked correctly into the cassette recorder, but when i try to load a cassette, it just sits there and does nothing, the motors do not run at all on the player with it hooked up, unless i hit play on the recorder, and it still will not load! any ideas?
  16. http://retrotinker.blogspot.com/2016/08/using-receipt-printer-with-cocomc-10.html Just a fun little write-up about what I did to get my CoCo and/or MC-10 to use a modern-ish RS-232 receipt printer for normal printing duties...enjoy!
  17. *Edit: I found somebody in Australia that has a complete and(seemingly) sealed copy of the game, so now i'm waiting for him to ship it out and get it in the mail. Hi all. I'm trying to sort of recreate my girlfriend's childhood in a way by piecing together the bits of her Color Computer 2 collection she had when she was a young'in(as an Xmas present), and I was hoping somebody might have or might be able to lead me towards acquiring a copy of Peanut Butter Panic. I'd prefer it CIB but i'm willing to take just the cassette tape itself. Any offers or leads are much appreciated, thanks. Here's a link to some gameplay footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXPh8cO5lyc
  18. Well I finally got my Coco 3 today...Hooking it up to my TV & firing up Super Pitfall gave me the biggest wave of nostalgia I've had in a while ..It was like I was transported right back to the floor of my parent's living room in the late 80's lol I had the black, non self-centering joystick though when I was a kid, but this time around I got the Deluxe model. Super Pitfall & a couple other games played with no problem, but others like Thexder & Rad Warrior I couldn't get to work right. I read the manual online about the switches on the bottom & dials on the top that I was never familiar with, but no matter what I tried, nothing seemed to help. Sure it's one simple thing I'm overlooking. For Thexder the button is making him jump, but the joystick does nothing...Same with Tetris, the button drops the tiles down but nothing else works...on Rad Warrior the character just runs on his own until he gets stuck in a corner where he proceeds to run in place lol..Same thing with a couple others I've tried so far, button works but joystick doesn't...yet there are a few games where I have no issues Another thing...I was disappointed to see vertical lines on the screen on my flatscreen with the composite input. They're not bad enough to where it's unplayable though at least, but I could def do without them...I haven't tried the RF yet, but I imagine it would look worse. The picture from my modded 7800, Genesis & Super NES composite outputs is clear on the other hand....But my NES, when I 1st hooked it up to this TV it appeared to be fine..Shortly after the AC Adapter went bad (Generic universal NES/SNES/Genesis plug)..Once I got a replacement (Official NES) I now get thin wavy lines in the background of every game I happen to be using the same RCA cables on the Coco 3 that I was just using on the NES..But the chances of the cable itself being the problem would be too good to be true I'm sure...I have no others ATM, so no way to test another set anyways..Can anyone shed any light on any possible solution? I don't want to get a seperate CRT TV or play on a monitor (nor have the space if I wanted to) Thanks in advance, Steve
