  1. Demon Attack, another great title from CollectorVision played on the Phoenix.
  2. Coming soon to a Colecovision near you in 2024. What has become of Shamus? Well this is it. More enemies that you can shake a stick at, more rooms than you can handle, more secrets than the CIA and FBI combined, more colors than a bruised apricot.
  3. I am working on merging the code I created over the last year into a new DEMO. In the mean time I wanted to get your opinion on which one looks the best. The Commodore 64 version seems to be the best version because it is completed but I tend to think my version is the most updated and colorful. You tell me... The original Apple 2 PC DOS Commodore 64 Colecovision (my version) The credit Tablet at the bottom is higher than the others because it will take two credits and copyright. Mine and Schroeders. I plan to make it wider at least 16 bytes on each side. Feel free to comment
  4. I will post the source as soon as I resolve 3 more tables but I really don't have the time at the moment. I know that sounds like a cheesy excuse but instead of this fixed rom being buried in another post I decided to give it it's own thread so the title is advertised. In response to another thread that was started by Colecofan1981 I went the go ahead and finished a disassembly of Super Cobra I did awhile back while working on Centipede. I rewrote the controller routine, changed some memory conflict addresses and a few other things. So here is the released binary. It should now work on the ADAM using the Super Action Controllers as well as the Standard ones. The binary had to go past 8k so I padded it to 9. Now this is not the 80's and chips are not expensive like back then so there is no reason to hone this to 8k in order to fit on a single 8k prom for release. So there is no reason to whittle it down. On the other hand, there is lots of room for improvement. The game may have some decent scrolling routines but it looks like it was done by an amateur that had zero documentation on Colecovision programing guidelines hence you had all the conflicts. In the long run I can see a title screen telling you to get ready, press fire to begin? Better sounds, Two players? I tested it on a real ADAM with real SA Controllers and it all works. I can not claim that it works on any machine outside of the Coleco environment. Either way, this version is ready to go. Like always, share, like subscribe, be kind to each other and yourselves. Don't forget to rewind your video tape before returning to Block Buster. If you find another issue with it or my patch doesn't work you can always post it here or PM me. CPT Cozmos Super Cobra (SAC Patched).rom edit: I just tested this on the DINA through MAME and it works as it should. As far as I know, MAME is the closest to hardware without the hardware. If someone out there with a physical DINA can test this out and give feedback then that would be great news. That goes for any other compatible Coleco hardware. Peace...
  5. I am cleaning it up now and identifying some memory locations before I post it. The usual disclaimers and pleasantries such as do not sell my work.... I can not stress how much I love THANK YOUS, TROPHIES, PROMOTIONS...... This was done for learning as well as sharing with the community. Speaking of, I have put forth an olive branch to the MSX community with my work. If you go over to the MSX resource website they talk about using wrappers, for some reason, to get games like Smurf to run on the MSX. Why..., just disassemble, adjust for your system then reassemble it. Easy to do on the MSX which has enough ram. MSX to Coleco, well you know the deal. I may change that in the future. If an MSX rom does not use more than 1k then I may be able to port it. Even if it does use more than 1k that also does not mean it can not be ported over. Considering that they did all of this in the 80's, I am flabbergasted as to why more games were not on the Colecovision without the extra hardware....Either way, that's for a rainy day. As far as Mr. Do! All links accounted for. All Sounds have been identified and cataloged. Some memory locations as well Several unused routines, mostly concerning sound, have been removed for a grand total of 21,331 in size with the original at 24,576. A total savings of 3,245 bytes. That is over 3k and your telling me that they did not have the space for two extra screens like when you get a diamond or a picture on the EXTRA Bonus screen? They already had the space because they could not use anything less than 3x8k proms without losing something in the game. Maybe I will add these before I release the code. Or have the release and my patch. So basically there are 5 major tables that encompass the 10 Phases (levels) the first load Extra and Blue Munchers behavior int ram then the Apple Placement Then the Cherries Then the Playfield Patterns Then the Playfield Colors Then the Spites They are listed in that order in the source but "not necessarily" called in that order The game is mostly made up of Sprites with maybe 64 patterns to the entire game. I've identified the placement data for the levels and now I am trying to figure out the structure. I have 100% no doubt that you can make a level editor for this but there is only so many ways to draw in 32x24 where 3 of those rows are used for the hud. Once you get the source I am sure you can create levels and change the sound to suit your needs as opposed to Smurf which would take a bit of work. So, I will release something, sometime soon. I'm just incredibly busy and I also promised the wif that I would make spaghetti tonight. If anything you should take away from all of this is what you call "A BREAK" Don't ignore your family. It's just a computer. CPT Cozmos edit: My earlier assessment about the new rom size was 21,331 I scoured the source to find and addition 55 bytes. Now the rom size is 21,276 with a new savings of 3,300 bytes. More than enough to add content and stick within a 24k rom.
  6. Bumping this up as I've sold a few pieces, but I'd also like to offer everything for sale individually as well as put together a custom bundle of items. DM me for a custom package and we can make a deal. Thanks! Hello all, If anyone is interested in the entire Coleco game collection listed below, please let me know and we can work something out. If you are interested in individual pieces, let me know. The more you buy, the better a deal we can put together. I previously had an SGM, Atarimax, Console, etc, but those have been sold. This is what remains. For sale is an incredible collection of ColecoVision games that is currently criminally underutilized, so I've decided to sell it. I've gone through and inventoried everything and listed it below (I can provide the spreadsheet for you if you like). For sale is all of the games listed along with a good number of manuals in plastic. Some are Canadian, some are American. Included are some rarer titles like BC Quest for Tires, Burgertime, and Tapper! This set is an instant collection and a ton of fun! I just don't have time and haven't played it enough to warrant keeping it. Let someone else enjoy it! I am willing to ship within the US and Canada at buyer's expense. Everything will be bubble wrapped tightly. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking! 7. This is more of a read instead of an advertisement for what's to come. First to admit, this will be my second and latest game. The first being Pong. The other games such as Warlords and Haunted House are not forgotten. Due to the hours I put into Dino Eggs and this current game I can say I am professionally experienced with Z80 programming, more likely extremely above average. Because I have become so good and close to the code, I have been able to do things that if Coleco programmers took the time they could have made Activision style games or better. Even with the 1k memory limitation, which is actually less if you use BIOS routines. I have proven this with my partially ported release of DIABLO from the ADAM which I may have to revisit being it has yet to be released by anyone else. To be fair, they did not have the tools we have today. Graphic and sound design was done by hand on paper. Even compiling took hours or days when in my case is mere nanoseconds and can be tested in emulation or on physical equipment in real time. So now we come down to the title of the article. The 80s of which I am stuck mentally, being the best and worst years of my life, memory was expensive. I never bought the 64k expansion for my ADAM because it was, I believe, $104 at the time. A couple of years earlier, no doubt even worse. So, Coleco used the cheapest ram and ROM as necessary to run a business. Same as getting games out the door ASAP. Completely understandable. Today, all I can get for a reasonable price is 32k as well all my cartridge PCBs are geared towards using 32k OTP or EPROM's, so I am basically stuck using 32k and why not. This comes back to my programming style as I want the tightest possible code, that is how I program, but this brings me to around 20k for Them's Be Fighti'n Cars. By having leftover space I can unravel loops, forget about compression or even having separate code for 1 and 2 players instead of them sharing. All of that increases the speed of how code is run. My favorite trick is misusing the stack because the stack is faster by design. So, why the article other than venting or a mind break from looking at code. No real reason other than sharing some thoughts. It is my hope that budding programmers will use the resources available to them instead of just grabbing an MSX or other sister machine ROM and reworking it to run on the Colecovision. 32k with 1k of memory is actually a lot. Maybe you are not going to make a Rembrandt, but you have a lot of resources, which 99% of it is figuring out the math. With the tools at hand I am on the cusp of releasing TBFC which I started on February 5th of this year. Around 10,000 lines of code and under 24k. Don't let the short time and small size fool you. It was a bear to figure out. Long 16-hour days, fatigue, eye strain and lots of 5 hour energy. It also gave me experience to tackle other projects. Now I can not only finish Warlords and Haunted House but also Shamus 2084 which are all three requested games I also have more coming down the pike, including hardware projects that will hopefully blow some minds. Things which you already know by now. At present, my limitations on bringing you new entertainment is coming from the lack of parts thanks to our current political climate so, you get what you voted for. Until then, TBFC is scheduled for release April 2023 as long as I can get the Boxes and Instructions printed within a reasonable amount of time. I also need to buy more collectors coin blanks for laser printing. Till next rant.... CC
  8. As with the Smurf, I disassembled this a couple of days ago but dug into it last night after I posted the Smurf Source. In any case I identified and set up pointers to a mess load of data ect.... Cleaned up the code a hair and there is much more to do. However, in this version just drag and drop on TNIASM and it will produce a 100% exact copy of the original. Meaning, this does work and compiles now. Do whatever you want with this source but please give me the credit for it's creation and it's ability to compile. The source will change in the future so I will put a version number in the top so you know if you have the latest. Any changes you make will also have to be made to whatever version I release unless you identify a bit of data or routine and want to update the source for completion. Otherwise I would like to keep this source original. Also, if there is a bug fix for the "original rom" that will end up being added to the Colevision Cannon of roms.. At present there are I think 12 Data sets that do not have pointers so if you change the location of routines or the size of pattern tables it will throw their locations off and the game will have unexpected results same as Smurf Rescue. Until I, or someone else, identifies the pointers for that data then those locations can not change because the game is looking for that data in those locations..ya dig? You can however change the colors and the patterns themselves as long as you do not go out of the size boundaries. Yes, I identified the pattern color table as well. At least for the set of patterns I found which were patterns used in the 1st level. I have a pretty good idea about the rest but I need sleep. So, here you go. A working and compil-able, if that's a word, version of DK 24k version. I think my next source will be a non Coleco, maybe an Atari or Parker brothers and lets see what we will see. just re-uploaded with a version of 2.0 DK24.asm
  9. https://github.com/sparkletron/Colecovision_Controller The github link above is for my finished project that has all the files to create a 3D printed Colecovision controller with all the original functionality. The form factor is the size of a NES controller. It uses micro-switches, single sided PCB, diodes, #4 pan screw, 3D printed parts, and a Sega Genesis extension cable. This is available with no license, do as you please with it. All files are available in the github repo.
  10. I’m back after a long hiatus! I have some rare items from my collection that I would like to sell: prices listed below (shipped in U.S.). Can make better deals on bulk orders.
  11. Please follow the link to my page on Atari Age for this update. https://forums.atariage.com/profile/79376-captain-cozmos/
  12. This is my magnum opus. Of course it is not complete. I provided the padded and non padded version for your testing. Padded to work on real equipment This one is the real mechanics test version and if you find any bugs I really need to know before I put in some items to play with like picking up eggs and dropping boulders. Animations on all actions Falling through holes if you land in them after jumping. Jumping Climbing Ladders Jump off Ladders Both Buttons jump for now Version 30 update: Always looking. I have already discovered two animation bugs. Pressing u/d while not under a ladder animates Tim. Pressing l/r while on a ladder animates Tim's butt. Will fix by next release. Dino Eggs v30 PAD.rom Dino Eggs v30.rom
  13. I busted some buns on this, took me two days and many attempts but I am getting really good. Frenzy, my 5th version before a release. This is extremely worked on. I identified the sound data, pattern data, object pointers, controller setup. So, if you study the code you can get a sense of how to move little dudes around the screen This is why I wanted to work heavily on this. Sooner or later I want to make something with the freedom from just a few sprites. You have to admit that Frenzy uses objects, Smurf uses objects, almost all in house Coleco games USE OBJECTS yet it's a dying art with little to no examples in Z80 Assembly. Anyway, This still needs cleaning. I could have used $7000 or 7000H for the Ram use and this would have compiled with no issues. I set definitions in order to group objects together in order to study them so they are currently tied to the pointer in the beginning. At some point I would like to use DS for all the ram in order to have a more generic and portable code. So in theory you could take this, update the BIOS routines and Ports then compile it for the MSX 1 or compatible. YOUR WELCOME!!!! I've seen how the Colecovision games have been ported to MSX. The whole rom is put inside some kind of wrapper like it's emulated. In any case, Here is the asm file. Compile with TNIASM, drag and drop or through the CLI/Dos Prompt. Padded with $FF to 24k I also left the header to skip the BIOS wait. You can change it back if you want. It is clean but not as commented as it should be. FRENZY V5.asm
  14. I started a small topic in the programing thread where I disassembled Smurf Rescue. I am now proud to share an almost cleaned up source that I have produced with an astounding amount of hard work. I plan to clean up the code further but for now it is 100% working as far as I have found. Instead of supplying you with a test rom I want you to compile it yourself using TNIASM. All you have to do is drag and drop the source on the TNIASM.EXE and it will produce the Smurf Rescue rom which if you compare with proper software will yield no differences. If you want to do it manually you open up a shell and type TNIASM Smurf.asm I did this for my own knowledge gain and it was a pain because when I sit there and stare at code I do not leave my chair for hours. There are still a number of Pointers that I have not been able to link with some data. As long as they don't change location the game will compile and produce an exact copy. Since my last post of the source I have identified the music data which is in decimal format. Maybe at a later date I will redo it to be more pleasant but for now it is plain data to me. This whole game is based off tables pointing to tables so the data was a bit harder to locate. In any case, here is the code. Smurf.asm

  16. Nevermind The problem was why I could not get my ADAM Boot block to work with disks. come to find out that it had nothing to with my program. I just discovered that if I copy the boot block to 0000h, add my program to 0400h inside a .ddp file I could use backup plus to copy it to a .dsk file it works Has something to do with the way the disk drive stores blocks differently than ddp's. Big woop, a simple 40 column test. Who knows where this is going. test40.dsk
  17. Hello to all. I was just wondering if it would be possible to put ColecoVision games on the Sega Master System (Or mostly SG-1000). This is my first topic started. You can read this topic here: https://www.smspower.org/forums/1433-ColecoGamesOnASMS
  18. I will reupload the code after I comment the new changes for the update. in the mean time check post version 3
  19. Here is version 7 of my Mouse exclusive rom. Roller Controller, Mouse, Spinners. This version I have not tested on a real machine yet. It works under Cool CV must use shift F5 on my copy to engage the RC. The Mouse tracks well, there is always room for improvement. This is still buggy and in development. I just wanted to gauge your interest. There is no picking players, you have to play as two or by yourself as the CPU has not been engaged yet. Tie has to be fixed. Blue O's have to be able to win Red will win and the game will freeze with a red X 3 in a row. In order to play use the mouse pointer to the spot you pick and press fire, Blue O goes first. Unless you specifically set up CoolCV to input from the mouse then you have to press the space bar or M key for the fire button. I was honestly surprised that CoolCV doesn't default to the mouse buttons yet it will engage the mouse as a roller controller. I would really like to complete this game because it is a ton of experience learning how the spinners work. No sound, lots of bugs but interesting to try and, unless someone tells me different, I claim this is the first Mouse driven Tic Tac Toe for the Colecovision. At least used in the manner of a real mouse and not the track ball. Please let me know your thoughts, good or bad. I tell me kids every time I cook. If it's crap then tell me, otherwise I will be serving you crap all the time with no improvement. It's not about ego. Mouse-Tictactoe v7.rom
  20. This is my successful proof of concept rom, padded to work on real equipment and tested. Written in 100% Z80 assembly language mouse pointer that moves with the roller controller in 360 degrees. After initialization it is a stationary pointer that moves with the controller. load in CoolCV, enable the Roller Controller feature for a Colecovision pointer that moves with your mouse if configured. It may or may not seem choppy because I am moving in increments of 3 for speed. I also have not put any screen boundary limitations. The normal rom is around 337 bytes but I have padded this one to 1k to test on a real Colecovision or ADAM. I feel confident to use my new routines in any paddle based game be it driving, paddle, roller controller. Paddle Test v2 Padded.rom
  21. Been awhile but the rumors of my death have been exaggerated. Anyway... I think I mentioned that I am still in a learning process so in order to research 8 Bit "AI" as well as a more practical way to parse sprites I also wanted to challenge myself to see how small I can get this. 2k was my maximum goal. So, aside from any bugs or quirks you may find I have created a 2k (2048 bytes) version of Pong. 1 or 2 players just press 1 or 2 on the player 1 keypad. First player to reach 10 the game will display the winner side then after a pause will reset to the player select menu. Full game with basic sound and the CPU is actually pretty good. This rom is free to anyone who wants it but if you want to sell it then I get a cut. Then again, who would ever want this for more than 10 minutes. I have tested this in 3 emulators plus a real ADAM and it works fine. It took me around 18 hours of work when opportunity presented itself but at least it is a complete game. Let me know what you think. 2K Pong.rom
  22. Been working this out for a while, about to update the code to make it more efficient. Maybe someone will show interest. HH Test.rom Comments are always welcome. I was going for compactness. 4k is still too large. This works on CoolCV I had to pad this with 255 till I reached 8k for it to work with my ADAM ADE.
  23. After years of plans, false starts, and redesigns, we are finally coming closer to get a new version of the SGM out. Now officially named the Super Game Module 2. From our announcement:
  24. Hello everyone, I was on a day-trip last weekend and found a Colecovision at a thrift store. I took a gamble and bought it. It does not seem to turn on, nothing happens at all. The TV just says no signal. There don’t appear to be any lights anywhere to let you know the system is getting power? I have put a voltmeter to the power supply and get the correct readings. I also get the correct reading when putting the voltmeter to the motherboard. I get voltage under the power switch on the motherboard, but don't know what the correct numbers are supposed to be. I removed the power switch, gave it a thorough cleaning and used DeOxit as well. Re-soldered it, still no signal on the TV. Soldered wire to bridge the pins on the switch, making it permanently on to test it, still no joy. I have several cartridges but none of them make any difference. No Bios, no sound, just a black screens saying no signal. I am using an RF cable attached to a screw-on antenna connector. I have flipped the channel switch back & forth multiple times, same with the power switch. I've hit the reset button several times, held it down... nothing makes any difference. Any suggestions? Thanks!
