Mark your calendars!!! Anyone within driving distance to Charlotte, NC I am hosting the first annual good old fashioned Atari BUY/SELL/SWAP/TRADE event!!! Save the eBay fees and shipping headaches. This is my first time organizing an event like this so I'm sure there will be some rough edges. If we have good attendance I would like to make this a yearly event. This first time we will go 90% Atari. If we can't fill the room with Atari then at future events we may include some of the other classic 8Bits. I have a ton of Atari 8bit and Atari ST items that I clean, repair, fully test and sell to pay for my hobby. I will be bringing at least the following items for Sell/Trade: Fully tested/working: 8bit - 400, 800, 600XL, 800XL, XEGS, 1050 drives, IndusGT drives, lots of Atari books, 60+ unique cartridge titles, some software on 5.25" diskette, joysticks, paddle controllers, trak-ball controllers Fully tested/working: 16bit - 520ST, 1040ST, both color and monochrome Atari monitors, mouse, books, some software on 3.5" diskette, 100+ Atari 2600 game cartridges Items that need TLC and/or repairs: Atari ST 3.5" external diskette drives, 410 and 1010 recorders, 1050 drives, IndusGT drives, monitors, joysticks, good outer shells for most A8 and ST units, many parts. If you have an A8 and need a minor repair or an upgrade/mod, PM me and I will let you know if it is something I can do for you (not during the event). I'm sure I am forgetting many items 😁 For show and tell I will have several playable Atari 8bits so the kids and kids at heart can play ATARI !!! I will also have a 4MB Atari STE my recently acquired Atari TT030 up and running. There are already commitments from others who are bringing their Atari items for Sell/Trade. I plan to create an Event on Facebook and will add the link here. I will need 2 or 3 volunteers to help me with setup and take-down (lite clean-up and we must put the tables and chairs back the way we find them, etc.) Expect to pay with Cash or PayPal only. Other sellers may offer more options but those two are it for me 😁 When: Saturday August 5th, 2023 Hours: 10am to 2pm Fees: CASH ONLY $5 admission per individual or family OR $10 per table (with 1 or 2 chairs) if you are bringing items to sell. You must contact me by PM if you wish to have a $10 table as the number of tables is limited. Season greetings! The preparations for the next edition of our annual 'Atari Invasion' are in very early stages still. The seventh Invasion - if we stick to Maarssen editions only - will take place on April 15 next year. The theme of the HCC Commodore Club meeting take-over has 'Remakes and Demakes' as a working theme, but rest assured there will be plenty of OG Atari around as we aim to cover a lot of the Atari spectrum. There will be games, demonstrations and lots of time for socializing. Want to join in on the fun as part of the crew, let us known. If you are interested and just want to take a look around or have a chat, we will be in 'het Schuurtje' all day on April 15 2023. Doors open at 10.00 and close at 16.00. Hope to see you in Maarssen! The conditions imposed upon us by the CoViD-19 pandemic and related government regulations, as well as a depressed expected turn-out figure, will make it impossible for us to host an event of the size and quality our dedicated fans have come to expect. Thus today we have terminated our 2020 contract with Waterford Banquets and the Clarion Inn hotel. We recommend cancelling your hotel and travel reservations, if you have made them, and we hope that you have not been too greatly inconvenienced by our change of plans. We also wish to express our thanks for the many responses we received to our survey sent back in May. Your feedback was informative, interesting, humorous and most of all, essential in helping us make the right decision about this year's show. The good news is that we have an excellent relationship with our host venue and have already locked in our contract for 2021. Season greetings! The preparations for the first lustrum edition of our annual 'Atari Invasion' are in full swing: #5 is alive! The take-over of the HCC Commodore Club meeting has 'Systems with guides' as working title and as details are still under wraps -in fact they are so secret we do not even know them yet- all we know is that each invader will present his/her system of choice to the crowd. With new additions to the crew, we seem to have all bases covered. As every year, the museum rack and display cabinet will be present, filled with new/different content. The info-beamer presentation is being updated with new code and content. Support has been added for dynamic updates so we can add and update content during the invasion. Hopefully the cameras for the live stream and time-lapse will stay put during this event, we ordered some new stands to ensure they do. There will be games, demonstrations and lots of time for socializing. Want to join in on the fun as part of the crew, let us known. As we send out updates to the crew, the Invasion plans take shape: celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Atari 8-bit homecomputers will be our main focus. I just got word from the fun ministers at Intv Prime that they have provided another sign-up sheet for Intellivision Day: http://go.pkg.cc/ipd2018 The idea of Intellivision Day is to get as many community members playing any one game in the Intellivision catalog for an hour, to celebrate the "birthday" of the console on December 3rd. No strings attached, just know that you are taking part in a community effort dedicated to (retro) video game fun. The sign-up sheet allows any one person to sign-up on a first come, first serve basis. If one person signs up for a game before you, just find another, to make sure we get coverage of every game. There are 10 "Independent" spots for people to sign-up for a game released in the last several years that is not part of the original 125. Let's do this!

All, With the holidays almost over, it's time to look ahead... In a few weeks, on February 17th to be precise, we will take over 'het Trefpunt' in Maarssen (NL) again. Preparations are ongoing, like our raspberry pi powered hardware slideshows that will be installed in our small museum cabinet: There is plenty of space to play games on retro, modern and home-brew hardware. We will show classic and modern demos during the event on several systems. Speaking of demos, we have some space reserved for the makers among us so they can take the stage and show everyone their product(s). If everything works out, our time at the invasion can be put to good use by preserving tape and disk software. Want to join in on the fun as part of the crew, let us known. All, Posting this here mostly because we want to thank the Atari home brew scene that is doing a great job in keeping the Atari legacy alive. Having said that, it is also posted here as most of the people that were making the invasion possible are 8-bit fans. Background Every two months the dutch commodore club gathers in Maarssen to tinker and socialize. As the retro community in the Netherlands grew thinner over the last say ten years, they were joined by the dutch MSX and Sinclair clubs. Only a few years ago some die-hard Atari fans joined their ranks as well. It was last year, these die-hard Atari fanboys (and some friends) teamed up to do their first Atari Invasion of the commodore event, which was a great succes (even to the commodore club board), so it was agreed to do this again in 2017. Preparations Fast forward to september 2016 when we sent out a reminder email and to lay out the plans for this year's theme: 'Brew @ Home'. The theme was well received and although we don't have all the bases covered with regards to home brew, we figured we had enough to fill a display and a lot of table space. And some of us even started scouring the forums looking for new items to add to our collections. Others were busy preparing for the Silly Venture event or started creating lots of paperwork like folders, articles and the creative ones among us started preparing new projects (one of them is currently on sale in this forum). We were joined by a great guy and avid collector from Israel and things started taking shape by the end of December, when we gathered during the last commodore club meeting to finish some boards and looked over the folders that were created. At the last minute we were contacted by someone that was willing to bring a jaguar kiosk, so we really had all the bases covered. The event Saturday February 18th, 8.30 the first arrived at the meeting location and started unloading the cars. They were joined by the others a little later and the Invasion took shape. We had a rack which we planned to use as a museum and display for the things we brought (using an LCD, a Raspberry Pi with info-beamer software and a private WiFi network). The rack contained a light sixer, some boxed 8-bit hardware, a boxed 5200, a boxed jaguar console and an 1040STe. We had a display cabinet to hold our precious home brew hard- and software (and some more things). And we bluntly copied something we saw at the ABBUC JHV: binders with Atari related articles, corporate memos, manuals, schematics, etc. which we lovingly named our Library. One of us printed A0 sized posters and someone else printed the 7800, Lynx and Jaguar encyclopedia. And we should not forget about the paper foldables of E.T., Berzerk, Pitfall and a VCS/2600. Besides stuff to look at, we also had a lot of stuff to play with: A VCS/2600 woody with AtariVox+ and Harmony cart, a 2600 Jr running 'Defend your castle' of another Harmony cart. A 7800 with the Mateos' multicart, that was mostly running Frenzy. As I said before, most of us are 8-bit fans and we had plenty of 8-bit things to play with: An 800XL running 'Lost in Space', complete with custom controllers, An 800XL with Ultimate 1MB and a newly designed MultiJoy8, running Multijoy games of course, 3 64k modded 600XL's running Multidash with the Multilink hardware, yet another 800XL demoing the stereo mod, turbo freezer 2011 and Sio2SD. Almost forgot about the grandchildren, as we had a 600XL that was fitted with the Sophia, Antonia and Veronica! To show off the 16-bit side of things, we had the CosmosEx in the display cabinet, but had a 4MB STe running software (mostly demos) of a GoTek USB floppy emulator with HxC firmware. And finally in our petting zoo we had the McWill modded Lynx, a falcon showing off its desktop and the Jaguar kiosk where people took a shot at Tempest. Once again, we would like to thank everyone working on Atari home brew !!! Be it by creating software/games or hardware. Be it by coming up with modifications to existing things. The artists (the posters were a huge (not just by size) success), but also those that wrote the encyclopedia, created the paper folds. The historians that keep archiving what they find, publishers that continue to publish games for a niche market. Without all of them we would not have been able to create such a successful event in the first place. And let's not forget all those that continue to support them by buying (almost) everything that is completed and finds its way to our hands. Thank you all... and maybe until our next Atari Invasion!

The European Atari Jaguar Festival, “ejagfest” in short, takes place on November 5th and 6th of this year in Kleinenbroich (between Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach), Germany. We celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Atari 7800 which has been released 30 years ago in 1986. You will find more detailed information at the ejagfest.de website soon. Plans are underway for this year's annual Atari Party, being held once again in Davis, California (near Sacramento, and a 2-ish hour drive from the greater San Francisco Bay Area & Silicon Valley) -- Atari Party 2016! We haven't picked a date yet, but I wanted to get a thread started here on Atari Age, in case anyone here on the forum is local*, and wants to help out at the show. It will be on a Saturday, from 12pm-5pm (with setup starting at 10am). Atari Party is a free event, open to the public. There's no selling/trading/vendors at the event (it's typically held at my local public library). I've held it every year since 2009 (a few times were in Sunnyvale), with great turnout from the general public -- not just Atari geeks. * Though admittedly, folks have been coming from as far as Oregon to help run (& exhibit at) the show, and it sounds like some will be doing so again this year!

So, this week-end, the Pixel Anthology 2 will take place, at La Bazoge, near Le Mans. In France, indeed. Organized by the non-profit association Rétrotaku, it will host about 40 machines from every era, all playable, and will host games, guests and stuff. Why am I talking about this here? I am a member of Retrotaku, and so I though you might like to see what it's like to set up that kind of event. I'll be posting pictures and comments about the event, but also of the setup, the after, and the result of this adventure. First step was to decide the machines we will display, and to associate them with the televisions. All of our TVs are donations, and mreo than often, they came with no remote control. and on a lot of those late TV, there is a serious lack of buttons that allow us to switch on A/V. So it was important to sort out TV with no remote controls with consoel with SCART out that switched on the A/V, and console with composite output that didn't. And sole older SCART specs are finiscky with modern TV too so that had to be done. And also, printing posters and putting them on cardboard to indicate where the fun is going to take place, and pointing out things we had and things we don't so we know what's good or not. And all of this in a good, joyful atmosphere. Stay tuned! -
Hi everyone, Next month on Saturday the 26th of October there will be a huge retro event in The Netherlands: RetroEvent What's happening there? A meetup of a lot of homebrew developers for various platforms, ranging from Atari VCS, Sinclair ZX Spectrum to Philips Videopac and ... Atari Lynx. Vendors from The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and the UK Special guests, such as Jeroen Tel and Boys without Brains A Retro machine museum There are going to be 3 large halls with the vendors, homebrew heroes and the museum. The event is held in Elst in The Netherlands, which is very close to Nijmegen, which again is very close to Oberhausen, Germany (as a reference) and it is also very doable from Belgium. I really think this is going to be a great event, organized by Martijn Wenting of Revival Studios fame. My aim is to get as many Atari Lynx developers there as well. If more than one (I'll be there) is going to show up, we can organize a meetup or something to learn, celebrate and whatever. Der Luchs is trying to be there, and I hope that more German Lynx devs and fans (108Stars, Sage, Matashen, Mathias, Bernd, GroovyBee, ...) will be able to make it. If you were ever able to go to JagFest in Bochum, this is only a short hour away from the Bochum location. So, please check if you can make it to this event. It should be really, really good fun. VCF East 8.0 will be held on May 5 and 6, 2012 at the InfoAge Science Center in Wall, New Jersey. Keynote speakers will be: Dr. Thomas Kurtz, co-inventor of the BASIC programming language and Daniel Kottke, Apple employee #12. Two days of working(!) vintage computer exhibits, workshops, panel discussion, consignment table, book sale, door prizes and more!
