Where does the name "Keypad" come from? I only find it as "Keyboard"? There is the compatible "Video Touch Pad", maybe that names got mixed?

Just wanted to share here today that I've managed to find the best method for getting a mouse working on quite a few 5200 games- 1 and 2 button 5200 games. Here's what you need: 1) A Masterplay Clone that doesn't only make Atari joysticks compatible with the 5200 but has 2-button game compatibility designed to get Sega Genesis controllers working (mine was the 2016 model made by Atariage member, Atariguy1021) 2) A Commodore 64 mouse (model 1351) 3) a 9 pin splitter cable (1 female end to 2 male ends) and a Sega Genesis controller- this is only necessary if you're wanting to play the 2 button games. The setup is explained in my latest presentation which includes a lot of gameplay footage:

Hello, Way back in the wild late 70s and early 80s, I never did get my hands on a pair of Keypad Controllers to try out the Basic Programming cartridge. For some reason, and despite the cartridge's obvious limitations, I would still like to try it out, if for anything historical curiosity. Is it possible to use Basic Programming on an emulator without Keypad Controllers? If not, would I need two 2600-daptors to accommodate the Keypad Controllers to USB? I'm hoping to try Basic Programming with as little acquisition as possible, but I know fate sometimes deals cruel hands. Thank you!

Hello All - I was looking to locate and buy a WICO Command Control Keypad with Box {and Instructions hopefully}. Actually, I would even be happy to buy just the box and any instructions/manual, etc. if you prefer to hold onto the keypad. {Note: This is the keypad solo in a box without the controller}. Please PM me if you've got one to spare, I think we can find an agreeable price point to meet. THANKS!

Does anyone have or is able to make a quick overlay template for the keypad controllers? I am currently in the process of creating a game that will use that type of controller and would like to have a quick, dirty visual aid.

Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place, I didn't know where else to post this. I'm looking for a pair of keypad overlays for MouseTrap, if anybody has an extra pair laying around. PM me with your price and shipping cost. Original overlays HIGHLY preferred. Nothing against repros, it's just not what I'm looking for in this one instance. Thanks much, everyone!

Hello all - Since jumping into this thing and doing little projects here and there, I have suffered some setbacks, and enjoyed a few surprising successes. But, this latest project I've embarked upon has given me quite a few ups and downs, with an emphasis on the down. I have a Wico Keypad that was only registering a few buttons. I swapped a cable and confirmed it's the cable. Despite urgings from the intelligence center of my brain, I had to jump into getting to the bottom of it and solving my problem {without consulting the pros here first, of course}. How hard could it be to get some new wires from keypad box to the tip of a new donor cable? Well, long story short, I failed. I've attached a photo. My question is: Does anyone have a simple explanation of where each of the 15 colored wires in that line within the keypad need to be when they reach the DB15 tip of the new cable? I'll gladly expand if anyone can join me in solving this dilemma {and even hope to be gratefully embarrassed if/when someone shows me one of those simple pinout diagrams like for converting O2 sticks to Atari, etc.} But, so far I'm not seeing it. NOW, I have seen that page that someone explains the matrix array set-up of these controllers, and with that and following the lines on the boards, and some great mental strain etc. I could see solving this puzzle some day.... AND, as you may be able to see from the picture, I've got all the wires tipped with male prongs, and a female to female gender changer adapter on it's way. It sure would be nice {and I would be more than quite grateful} if, when that gender changer adapter arrives, I could just plug those male prongs 1,2,3....15 right into their respective spots at the DB15 tip and begin to feel I've brought something good back into the world again. Thanks for reading, helping, etc. A final note {since you've stayed on this far}: Wico, in a cruel twist {and causing all my pain here} embedded their wires in some blackened amber encasement at the tip of the cable, making tracking the wires nearly impossible {I was able to track like 3 of them after a "careful" destruction of the tip}. Also, the damage was done, but it didn't help that they included 2 orange/white wires into the mix. Thanks again.

I have a spare ColecoVision controller that has a non-working keypad, which I have been unable to repair. I was wondering if anyone has a keypad (not the entire controller) they are willing to part with. I'm in Canada.

Hey guys! I've been playing with my CV a lot lately and recently got the game Nova Blast off of eBay. I cleaned and repaired everything on the CV a while ago including the controllers but just now found out that the ASTERISK (*) button on one of them doesn't seem to work. Nova Blast needs this button pressed to start the game. My question is, everything else (as far as I can tell) works on the keypad (even the # key) except the * button. Is there something I can do to locate the cause of the malfunction? In other words, I am not sure how 12 buttons on the keypad are translated into 1 or 2 wires that feed into the CV but it seems to me if all the buttons except this one work the problem may be with the ribbon cable? If so, is this something that can be repaired easily? Thanks, Larry

Will there either be, a) An Xbox and Playstation version of Joysticks, Paddles, Trackballs, Steering controllers, and keypad, (Modern TVs wont allow light guns for the single light gun game on the ilist, unless there is a USB-to-RF out adapter) or b) an authorized adapter that lets you plug in said original Atari controllers? Also, wondering if Red Baron is the "unlicensed version of Star Wars" insofar as this uses a flight yolk and both vector 3D games, and if so, will there be a flight yolk for modern machines? Also I'll Start a public "opponents on call list" for Atari Flashback online head-to-head games I'm Brian Ciesicki, Xbox Live name "TripleTopper321". I Will accept on-call challenges if I'm by my Xbox between 9AM and Midnight New York time. Both copies already reserved. I'll pick it up November 1st.

This thread is asleep for now. I'll wake it up at a later time. Well this an odd start. I don't have an Atari 5200 but I'm looking for the Wico Command Control Joystick and the Keypad that goes with it. I would hate to get an Atari 5200 with an official controller and try to refurbish the controller myself. Also, the fire buttons seem too much like the 7800 controller which can give you a severe hand cramp. I know these aren't exactly the cheapest controller to purchase. So I welcome any reasonable offer. Below is a picture of what I'm looking for: I'm also looking for a 2 port system here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/245575-wanted-atari-5200-2-port-s-video-and-composite-modded/

i were seeing that keypad games for ColecoVision (Intellivision and Atari2600 as well, and perhaps apf-imagination-machine as well?) are not that common, and i’m somehow curious to know which games exists for these platforms (or even from more platforms which i don’t know about), and which kind of games worth being created or ported to ColecoVision where from can we find a list of them? (except Atari 2600, it is easy to find here at AtariAge website)

i made this test now, rom with sources in the attachment - it's a rom for testing the joystick, and simulates texting from the keypads a bit like some cellphones years ago (still quite embryonic, perhaps someone can have some idea for using it in a game, considering there is a lot of people comfortable with this texting method, actually ) i hope this can be useful, not only as a rom for testing, as for encouraging people here on coding ColecoVision stuff (and Boriel’s ZX-Basic Compiler seems to be a very neat cross-development tool for this) joysticktest_2_keypad.zip

Can anyone confirm or deny if the games that require the keypad/keyboard controllers work with the Harmony Cart? Brain Games, Basic Programming, Star Raiders, and the 4 Sesame Street games....?
