  1. I'm extremely new to actually using the CoCo 2 and basic code in general. So I found some sample basic code in an old december issue of The Rainbow that does a little Xmas demo and i'm wondering if there is a way to type it in on my modern computer(this one is a Macbook Pro, but I can also run windows so i'm fairly platform agnostic) in a text editor and convert that file to a cassette image or a disk image I can load on the CoCo? Does this even make sense?
  2. Hey all, I'm trying to make a really long program, so instead of actually wasting all my space with one program I have several programs daisy chained together in extended basic. So far I've had no problems, but things would be a lot less tricky if I was able to send variables between the programs. From what I understand, whenever you start a new program, the variables are all wiped to zero, but you can save values in specific locations on the expanded memory (like 8199 or something like that). I also believe that you are supposed to use (in some combination) init, load, link and/or peek in order to do so, but I cannot figure out how. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
  3. Posting from my phone on vacation, so I will add more details and attach examples later... However, this is really bugging me and I wanted to get your thoughts... While going through all my old disks I decided i'd like to finish some uncompleted games that I had started back when I was a kid in the early 80's. but I ran into a problem with several of the files. These are all in standard atari basic by the way. When I try to load the problematic files it results in: READY READY (two "ready" messages) and then when I say LIST there is no code to view, and RUN does nothing, like there is nothing in memory. The files show up in DOS directory and seem normal size, etc. I have found I can load them into memopad as an imported basic tokenized file, but not sure what good that really does for me...at least it seems to indicate that the data is there and can be read. I am thinking something in the basic tokenized file got corrupted. I remember "back in the day" running into this READY READY thing with nothing to LIST even on some commercial software ( like Avalon Hill games or something like that which were in basic) and I assumed they were doing something intentionally to protect the code. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help or advice. It would be cool to finish some of these games I started on so long ago but I am stuck for now. I will attach some example files later after I get back to a PC. Thanks!! Eric
  4. I've been digging about on binary object files and how they are put together. There are the standard kind, and then some SDX specific ones. To start with, I want to ask a question about the standard ones. I understand they start with: FFFF then another word designating the start address to load into, then one more word with the end address. That's 6 bytes in that header. What I was wondering is if there are additional segments, do they all start with the same kind of 6 byte header, or do they just have the start and end address words and skip the FFFF. In other words, is the FFFF only at the start of the file but not on each segment?
  5. Hi there guys, so after talking to some of my friends about the problems with my 1040 STe, we wernt able to figure out whats wrong, so they suggested that I post on here and see if anybody can help me. Basically, almost every game I try to load either gives me a black screen after the main screen or it shows bombs or goes red and freezes. Ive only owned my owned my Atari 1040 STe for about 5 month and Ive only gotten some games for it in the last 2 weeks, so I dont have much of history with it. Here are a couple videos I uploaded to youtube that can probably show you better than I can describe. https://youtu.be/Nj1wB4KnbUg https://youtu.be/76pGk_AkMAI Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
