  1. I have read comments, here and on YouTube, over the past 3 years. I have made some updates to all of these games here! A quick note about the hacks: I have decided to place all of my hacks in one, convenient thread. As I grew up with my Atari 5200 and Atari 800XL, there were certain games that I thought had a little more potential. I had created basic hacks for a few of these games. I always thought that my 5200 Popeye could look better. Brutus didn't have a number "5" for a head in the arcade version. I knew I had drawn more accurate Mario characters on my 800XL. If only I could plug them into the games. I teamed up with Playsoft, who provided the tools and wisdom to make these games possible. Some of these games have other contributors. Tep392 helped us tweak the collision and touchy controls in DK Jr. I believe that Tep392 and Kjmann worked on the original Donkey Kong RMT sound version. I believe there is another member who helped Playsoft in some of the A8 to 5200 conversions. I am not sure who drew the giant Popeye head. If anybody has clarity on this, let me know, so credit can go where it is due. These are truly community projects, and I had a great time watching them transform. Playsoft did an amazing job of hacking display list interrupts, giving me a little more height area (eg. thicker 5200 Mario Bros floors, as well as multiple floor types). I have been holding off on releasing the latest Mario Bros hacks, because I didn't want to release as many revisions. I was also hoping for some upgraded sound effects for Mario, but there's not always enough time in the day. There's a bonus hack for the 7800 Mario Bros. I found the 7800 graphics tedious to hack. The characters were drawn too small and flat, and the game itself plays horribly. That version has the least number of animation frames, so the animation is poor regardless. It is my "Lipstick on a Pig" release. 2. Hello, I am Oscar Kenneth, from Kai Magazine Software. A few months back I presented you a Project we were working on: Thio’s odyssey. Turns out I received some offers and the game will be published by Elektronite, with a different name (Ninja Odyssey) and lots of changes and improvements. The premise is very different now and the playability has evolved a lot, including different shurikens, a red suit for double jump, an intro, final bosses, smooth moving multi-colored enemies and many more things. I am attaching a video link and some snapshots: The video is recorded at 30 Fps but the game runs perfectly smooth at 60 Fps, so it will look much better on your console. This game does not require any additional hardware and it works on any Intellivision console. We are working on other Intellivision games, so if you like this one, stay tunned That’s all for now. I hope you like the game.
  3. Hi all, What are some games like Mario that you take turns and are platform, and also are easy-medium to play with my wife and stepdaughter? We always play Mario; I have many systems as we all do here in the forum. So just keep in mind not to mention something too rare! I already have Sonic games, Donkey Kong... Just games that follow the Mario/Sonic formula of platforming and turn taking. NES TG16 - Preferred as I need more games for this system SNES SATURN SMS Jaguar Other systems are okay too, but I would like to keep it in the range of the mentioned systems, for a retro gaming family night! Cheers! Yan

  5. Hey all, I just ran into this on my feed on Twitter, and WOW, I cant wait to be able to play it. It looks epic... Video/pics here... Some examples from above... It's a completely new game, all new levels, 4 player capable and stays faithful of the original. There is a rom out there for it, that I found, if you follow some of the messages on the above link, you should be able to find it. I have a Super Wild card but, the floppy drive is dead. I ordered a Floppy Emulator and it's due in tomorrow... This means I have the rom and I cant even play it tonight It really does look incredible and the dev put years of work into it..
  6. I know this has been heard before on this board, but this time, I've gotten some ideas that could make SMB on CV work, and pretty nicely. Note: the sprites attached aren't exact or supposed to be how a stock CV would output, they're just close approximations. If you're wondering why they're horizontal, that is one of my ideas- since the CV is choppy when it comes to horizontal scrolling, since the vertical is smoother, simply set the game up so that you merely have to rotate whatever you're playing on (hopefully a small TV- I can't see rotating a 52' flat-screen just for this) and it will not only look normal, but the scrolling will be smoother. Secondly, since it uses 8x8 sprites, to overcome the palette limitations, some sprites can use this to their advantage. Take the mushroom and Mario, for example- they both switch palettes halfway down, but use either common coloring or a fitting dither in order to combine. Others, like the coin, simply spread out of two 8x8 sprites into four in order to use two palette sets (orange+white, orange+black) in order to keep color quality. So, with that being said, would this help bring a port of SMB to Coleco closer to reality?

  8. I think I've stumbled across something here. While playing around on the game, I ventured into the Lanayru Sand Sea area for the first time. After crossing the chasm over to where the dock is, I turned around to look back in the direction from where I came into the area (on the map, it's toward the east). When I looked up at the tower that I came into the area from, I saw this... So what do you folks think? Seeing what I am?
  9. Hey everyone, I have recently become interested into Nintendo Game & Watch, mainly because of all the cool exclusive sequels to real arcade games. I have discovered lots of Mario games, but even more Donkey Kong games. There are actually 7 DK games, but only 4 are platformers! I have already bought DK, DK Jr. Widescreen, and DK II. DK Jr. Tabletop/Panorama is really fun on my computer as well. I wanted to introduce these excellent LCD handhelds to you guys, as we all love Donkey Kong. If you have never played these games before, or don't have much money, I have provided the following links for you: http://www.pica-pic.com This site has both Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. New Widescreen http://www.madrigald.../sim/dnload.php This site has both Donkey Kong Jr. Tabletop and Panorama versions, and The legendary Donkey Kong II Have fun.
