I have a 2600 that won't come in on my TV. I have the RF plugged into an RF>coax adapter and into the (CRT) TV and when I turn it on the TV static goes wild but no picture. So I know it's getting power. I cleaned the game. I tried both channels 2 and 3 and even did a channel search but still nothing. Any suggestions? Could it be a bad adapter? I know the TV is fine because I just used an NES plugged with RF earlier.

Afternoon all... so i recently found and decided to hook up my old supradrive to my atari st to look at some old files on there (i`m a working musician and used the ST extensively during the 80`s / 90`s... upon power up i heard a bit of a "crack" from within the casing !!!! ... so i opened her up and a couple of chips on what looks like the controller board were fried ... a quick look on the web meant that i could source the affected chips still and relatively cheaply (hurrah!) ...BUT..... one of the affected chips seems to be a custom programmed EPROM.. and i was wondering if anyone has or knows where to get the file i need to re-burn the new chip as my drive is useless without it .... alternatively can anyone suggest an alternate housing i could source so i can swap the actual HD over ... see piccy`s for the lowdown ... affected chips are 74HCT240N X 1 Easily available S7407N X 1 " " PAL16L8ANC X 1 " " CUSTOM EPROM.. Thanks for any advice / help offered.. steve

What do you do with broken stuff? I get most consoles repaired these days, but I have a few controllers I really like (a six button w/turbo genesis controller, multiple 2600 controller, and a translucent green N64 controller) that I just can't figure out what to do with. I also have an extra Apple G3 laptop that I should sell for parts or repair. As I see it we have a few options with any given item. -Hoard until parts become available and you can fix item -Fix item -Sell for parts -Toss I'm torn. I hate throwing away something thinking it could be fixed, but also don't like having broken crap taking up space in my collection. What do you do for various items?

Help! Hi, I got a Ti99/4a PAL version and when I plug it in it shows this.. I have checked the power supply and the internal power board and it gives correct voltage. So it is a chip. I have seen on google that can be from Static ram to CPU... Does anybody know what chip is faulty?

Hello, I received my Harmony Cart today. I put it in my 7800 and it didn't boot up. I checked it several times, each time powering on/off, nothing. I made sure the ROM files were correct....nothing. Hooked it upto my Mac OS X computer, says it wasn't recognized. Checked the actual card inside the cartridge, looked like it was fine. I just tried reattaching the cartridge to my Mac again, nothing still. (Screenshot shows). Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Please let me know. - Danny

Before I jump to a downgrade to a 2600 Jr with short rainbow and an a/v mod (also being lured towards it by the wonderfully done Pac-Man 4k and due to a lack of a Yars' Revenge 8-bit port), my 2 5200 trak-balls (yes, I said it, two, trak-balls, model no. CX53) that I've had since 1983 (both purchased just a couple of months after taking delivery of my first 5200 unit on my 17th birthday (USA-Made 4-port, Serial No. 141101, now retired after getting an a/v/power-out modded 4-port unit just 2 months ago) in 1983 seem to have a serious issue going on with (yes, you guessed it!) the keypads and fire buttons not working at all, and I really wanted to use them with Tempest and of course the CX53 is also the ONLY one that will work with games like Missile Command, Super Breakout and Gorf, but alas these three games cannot be played with the 2600 trak-ball I picked up (the fire buttons are more responsive on it than the CX53) because it reads through my Redemption 5200 as a digital unit on these games (Missile Command, Super Breakout and Gorf all take advantage of the analog system the stock stick uses), but yet, that very same setup reads beautifully with games like Centipede, Millipede, and also Tempest. Does Best Electronics offer circuit-board and/or keypad/fire button upgrades for the CX53 trak-ball controllers like they have for the stock 5200 joystick controllers, as I have a gold-contact 5200 stick which is a thing of beauty, but I don't want to throw in the towel and sell a system platform that I have supported for 33 years and also spent thousands of dollars in games and accessories, including the 2600 and 7800-compatible Redemption 5200 units and almost all the great homebrews and finished prototypes over the years. I hope they do, because I don't wanna throw away such a great system just because of a mere snafu involving the CX53 Trak-Ball Controllers, somebody help!

Hello forum. I recently purchased a broken 7800. It came in with a 16v adapter with the wires spliced and taped to the original 7800 connector end. That is the only history. It turns on to a black screen and silence, 2600 or 7800 game same. Screen is gray if I turn on without a game inserted, sometimes some machine noise. I already replaced mj210, checked 7805 and replaced rf module. I think something is shorting somewhere or a bad chip..4013? Any ideas?? Where to start? Please help, thanks in advance.

Looking for some ideas on where to start trouble shooting. This Atari works well except when pressing fire button. The fire is out of timing, goes in reverse direction, goes in parabole or dissapears and re-appears from the screen. Some games like Combat work fine, but others have this issue. For example, sea quest, river raid.... Very weird behavior. Swapping chips is not easy as they are soldered, need to try to pin point more carefully to avoid excess disoldering or ic damage. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!!!!

Hello, I've recently received a couple of Hombebrew carts that won't work on my CV. I've tried 3 different machines, and they didn't work on any of them. I've gotten replacement carts and same issue. They did work on my Adam. One of the games is The Stone of Wisdom. Spoke to Luc about it and he asked me to try an experiment. He had me push the cart to the far right and turn on the machine. I could get the cart to boot 2 or 3 times out of about 100 tries. Last night I tried another experiment, I removed the cover from my CV and both carts that were problematic boot reliably. Any one else having issues with Homebrews?

Hi everyone. I tried asking this question in the other thread, however my issue has some different symptoms. I bought a Atari 7800 from the flea market, got an original power supply with it.. happy as a clam. I have a 7800 controller as well, the odd one. Issue: I plug in the controller to controller port 1, and nothing happens, I plug into controller port 2 and I have full control over player 2, but still nothing on port 1. I plugged in a sega genesis controller as I read it works with the 7800. It does the same thing, does not work on port 1, does on port 2. So I decided to try and open it up and look at the soldering points. I noticed the controller port itself moved ever so slightly when i pressed on it. Not much, but that was enough for me to think I should take a go at re soldering the pins. So i did, I suck at it, but i feel that the redo's were done with proper contact,, they are a little goopy, but they look like they should work. so I plugged everything back up, and still the same issue persists.. I'm happy that this place exists, and I am hoping that if many of you are good enough to successfully mod your 7800 to have composite video/S-video as i've been reading, that perhaps you can work with me on this to see if I can resolve it, thanks. side note, maybe I can take some pictures of my poor soldering job... but you guys know what the board already looks like I suppose.
