  1. Hi guys, I have a problem with my PlayStation 2 slim SCPH - 75003. The issue is „The disc could not be read.” It doesn’t happens all the time. Actually right now it is most of the time, but after few times to lunch a game it starts. But after power of on the issue is there again. I checked the switches which are confirming that the disk lead is closed and they looks fine. I opened the PS 2 to check woh the issue looks like and I see that the disc is spinning but after a while it is stopping. Does anybody has a clue what can be the issue here? I will attach the video of to here bellow:
  2. Geeks-Line Publishing recently launched their Kickstarter for a four-volume history book on the PS2 that will be released Winter of 2024. Each volume will have specific dust jacket artwork: PS2 Anthology Vol.1 - God of War Dust Cover PS2 Anthology. Vol.2 - Okami Dust Cover PS2 Anthology. Vol.3 - Prince of Persia Dust Cover PS2 Anthology. Vol.4 - FFX Dust Cover Geeks-Line books sell out pretty quickly, so it might be a good idea to pledge/order the PS2 Anthology Book set priced at $164 which gives you 10% off compared to buying the books separately. 6. I've been refurbishing old consoles and building a new retro gaming center for myself, this year. I figured I would dump the photos here from the past few months so I don't lose them. It all started when I found this really nice old Sylvania flatsceen TV that is still old enough to not be widesreen ($7 Goodwill). After that, it was a matter of cleaning dust and grime off the old consoles, which had been sitting dormant on bookcase shelves, and diagnosing which controllers worked, and which were defective. At this point, my Atari controllers were stuttering or intermittently unresponsive. The Atari was still dusty, and lots of cartridges really needed to be jiggered around to get them to work. Without any cleaning for this, the problem resolved on its own after some use swapping cartridges on the console over a few weeks. The Intellivision II functioned, but still needs serious jiggering to get cartridges to load, but none of them were found to be dead. The playstation 2 works beautifully, but none of my memory cards were recognized. Some of the controllers turned out to be broken, especially the "clear red plastic" one seen plugged in here. I found a nice woodgrain cabinet for a stand at goodwill for 5 bucks, and used an old xetec Amiga hard drive casing for the stand to raise the TV up a bit. Next, I took apart the 2 sets of Atari paddles, which suffered from "Jitter," and cleaned them. Reassembled after cleaning the residue and grease with alcohol and swabs, they worked perfectly. The next challenge was to open up both joysticks, remove the clear adhesive over the boards, clean them, and reassemble with packing tape over the boards. Both of them worked very well, aside from an issue with one of them: The cable plastic seemed pretty stiff, and would lose control if it was not held in a certain position - ultimately a small tug downwards of the connector end plugged into the back of the console got whatever connections were loose to connect. But, this one went into my "museum" for non-use, ultimately. Next, I took apart the console and cleaned the case. I found three areas on the RF cable where the plasic cord exterior had torn, but it seems that the cable is still working perfectly, so a little electrical tape was wrapped around the frayed parts to protect them. Ultimately, I want to replace the cord and fix the connectors in the B&W switch, and get a second Atari joystick, but this is good enough for now. After the next photo was taken, I popped the caps off the paddles and cleaned them some more. Next, I identified two playstation controllers that still functioned, though only one PS2 dualshock controlled worked, so a PS1 controller was borrowed from the old console which is in my "museum." I added a VCR to the mix, running the PS2 through that. Finally, I set up a spare tablet to be able to quicky hit a website with atari manuals on it, for reference if needed, and bought myself a Harmony Cartridge for the Atari for loading games from my organized rom library on SD card, which I continue to explore and learn about. My Atari Keyboard Controllers needed no maintenance - so they will be nice to have for Star Raiders. Finally, the Commodore 128 (64) computer and accompanying Commodore 1571 (Disk Drive) were set up as part of my functioning retro gaming center. It's still going to need some refurbishing to get it all cleaned up and "retro-brighted", with the 128 boot not functioning, lots of keys lacking spring or being loose, and the old RF video cable lacking proper RF shielding to prevent interference. But, it functions and I have access to all my old files and games. This was my primary computer literally from like 1985-1998. I'm making good on my "perpertual student" label for myself. Pacing myself, but aside from some repairs on this and the Atari, I still have two Commdore 64's and an Amiga 500 that will need to come back to life. The Amiga will need cleaning and retrobrighting, keyboard fixes, proper video cable, and a boot disk. The 64's with need to have their problem diagnosed. I have a Timex Sinclair 2068 with no cables, and an Atari 5200 that has a rusted end to it's RF (Power?? WTF) cable, which sparks when turned on. My playstation 1 is probably fine, but with the PS2, there's no rush on that. I'm definitely going to need a proper belkin surge protector instead of these two cheapo power strips. Projects for much later.
  7. Today I discuss an instant classic: Big Mutha Truckers for the PS2. I'm sure many of you saw the commercials for this game and remember the title, but how many of you have played it? What did you think?
  8. I am looking to purchase a PS2. One controller would be just fine. It would be nice if it comes with a memory card, but not totally necessary. Drop me a line. Thank you.

  10. So I have a DualShock 2 and the X button doesn't register anymore, I was wondering if there's any way to fix it. I know what most people are going to say: "Dude, throw it away and go get another one because DualShock controllers are really cheap at this point." Thing is, where I live, the only PS2 controllers you can get are cheap Chinese knockoffs that look just like the real thing, but absolutely suck. So if you can share some videos or articles where they explain a solution to this problem I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
  11. I've owned a Logitech Wireless Action Controller for the PS2 for almost a decade. I've only had a problem with it once which involved the X button getting stuck every once in a while, but I remember cleaning it and solving the issue. But now I can't use it anymore because the receiver doesn't turn on the light. I think that's how it worked: the receiver blinked (or you had to push the button for the light to blinked) and then you pushed a button on the controller and voila! But the receiver's light never turns on regardless of what I do. I looked up the manuals online to see if I was doing everything wrong, but I can't seem to find a solution. Help! I really want to play Final Fantasy VII and I don't want to go back to a wired controller. Can anyone help me to check if the problem is the receiver not working properly or if I'm not configuring it properly?
  12. I was doing some research about Logitech controllers on the PS2 because I read that that brand released some of the best controllers on the console. That's how I found about about the Logitech NetPlay Keyboard and I want someone, anyone to tell me something about that thing. According to reference sites like PriceCharting.com those controllers should be collectible and somewhat expense, but someone's selling them for $10 with shipping and I have to know if it's worth acquiring one or not. Some general questions include: are they compatible with every game on the system or just online games? If that's the case, do you recommend using it for any games in particular or is it good just for the purposes of collecting? I think I can't really go wrong for that price. Apparently they come complete in box and most reviews from that seller are fine. It seems he has a stack of them and just wants to get rid of them, but since I can't find that much information about the controller anywhere, I turn to you. It seems most of the people who got one of those back in the day used it for Final Fantasy XI, but I don't know, maybe it works well with strategy games or slow-paced RPGs. Again, I'm just seriously considering it for the low price... Here's a picture:
  13. I recently came across a Logitech Precision Controller for the PlayStation 2 (also compatible with the original PlayStation) and I flipped out. I had a Logitech PS2 Cordless Action Controller that I loved back in the day, but the X button eventually wore out thanks to stupid mini-games and QTEs. This person is selling it for around $20 and swears that her kids used it a couple of times, their PS2 broke and they moved on to a newer console, but I've never been a fan of getting used controllers. But Logitech PS2 controllers have always had a fantastic reputation and I'm wondering if it's worth making an exception. So had anyone had an experience with that model in particular? Is the controller worth that price? I know it's a gamble, but I never come across those and need some advice. I have a feeling I might regret in the future, but I can't tell right now. Oh, and there's a picture of the controller below just for reference.
  14. Are generic PlayStation 2 memory cards any good? They are pretty inexpensive, but the one I saw, which is 128MB, I'd use not only to back up all the saves from my previous memory cards, but also for new games I get. So far, I've used the PlayStation-branded ones which are solid and extremely reliable, but I don't want to get a new card and then lose all of my progress on dozens of games. Any thoughts?
  15. The PS2 ROCKS with over 1,850 games released in North America! Here are a ton of great hidden gems for the console you may not know about. 17. Hey, all. First post on AA. I'm trying to get the best picture from my PS2 on a Sharp 27SF56B 27" flatpanel CRT. I'm currently using a PS2/PS3 component cable, but RetroRGB recommends SCART over component for 240p/480i displays. My questions are: if I use a SCART cable from the PS2, won't I just have to convert it back to component for the TV input? Will throwing the SCART in the mix really make that much of a difference on a CRT? I get the impression that the RetroRGB guys are mainly trying to optimize for HD displays, but I prefer a more "traditional" experience. Any help here would be appreciated.
  18. Even to this day, the PlayStation 2 is my favorite home console. After all, the PS2 had thousands of games to choose from, a DVD player and backwards compatibility with the original PlayStation, among other amazing features. I still own dozens of PlayStation 2 games in my collection, but I know I missed several games a lot of people are passionate about (I never got to the play Persona 4, Ratchet & Clank, Timesplitters, Sly and Disgaea.) So apart from sharing some of my favorite titles, I encourage you to share yours. It's never too late to play some of those classics. Top 10: My Favorite PlayStation 2 Games
