  1. Sort of a weird question, but does anyone happen to know the specs and make/model of the battery in the Hyperkin Retron 5 Controller? The reason I'm asking is 2 fold. A friend donated a controller which had a busted battery (which he conveniently threw out...clever I know) and I'm looking to get a replacement battery. Also, I have a Retron 5 system coming from the US as a Christmas gift and of course Australia post won't let me get the thing shipped without a Material Safety Data Sheet. I would appreciate even just a pic of the thing with some code numbers to start investigating, but if anyone knows more about it than that, the info would be much appreciated. Thanks (ps I know people hate the controller, but I actually quite like the stick) (pps... this pic is my only lead, found on another forum... green is possibly the battery.... credit to Ellie Doodle on Element14 for the pic)
  2. Hey all, I have a pricey purchase I am planning on making so I am listing a few slightly expensive (and some not so expensive) items here to fund it. PM me if interested. Payments via PayPal only via Gift, add 5% to the total cost if you want to send a payment normally. If you have little to no feedback here, a Gifted payment is mandatory. I am shipping to the USA only, not interested in dealing with customs forms. All prices include shipping via USPS Priority Mail, tracked and insured (with signature confirmation for anything over $100). *Note: anything you see photos for at the bottom of this post that doesn't have a written listing is sold/no longer available.* Item #2: Roland MC-303 Groovebox - $100 - A Roland synth/drum machine combo, the MC-303. Comes with the unit and AC adapter. It's complex so you will want to find a PDF instruction manual online. I picked this up a few years back to toy around with, but it's sat in the closet for most of that time. I'm going to comb over my collection when I get home from work in the morning to see if there's anything else I can list. If I can sell most of this stuff I will be fine, but there may still be a couple of other things I decide I can list here. Keep your eyes peeled!
  3. I would like to start a thread about the current state of paddles, in the world of HD playing. Here is what I know about the state of paddles as of Nov 3, 2018: I would be really great if someone would report on the paddle functionality of the Retron77. AtGames manufactured paddles, wired: AtGames sells Atari replica paddles on their web site for $29.95 plus shipping. I own these paddles, they feel great and work perfectly with the 2600 and Flashback 8. As per the AtGAmes website they are compatible with many other flashbacks, but not the Flashback 9. AtGames manufactured paddles, for Atari Bast vol 3, wireless: These paddles will only sync to the enclosed dongle. They feel and work very nice. Unfortunately this dongle game system has many problems. I owned one, then returned it to Walmart. Problems: Sound: sometimes there would be no sound Sound: when the sound worked is was horrible. Pong with bad sound is not worth playing. Play: this system lacks difficulty left, and difficulty right switches. According to the AtGamesBlast web site the controller has difficulty switches, but in truth it does not! Game selection: there are only 13 cartridges emulated on the dongle, not 20 as advertised. 3 and 4 player games, according to my correspondence with AtGames if you want to play simultaneous 3 or 4 player games (black jack, video Olympics, warlords) a special set of paddles, made by AtGames, must be used, unfortunately AtGames sells no such paddles. Flashback 8 Pros: Paddle games on this system work great, no lag, nice game selection Flashback 8 works with original Atari paddles and the AtGames paddles Cons: The Flashback 8 system can not play cartridges or additional games via SD card slot. Flashback 9 (Paddles will not work with this system) Problems: According to a Youtube video posted by, "John Hancock" paddles do not work with this system. John Hancock states in this video that AtGames will release special compatible paddles. There is no mention of this on the AtGames website or in the intructions included with the Flashback 9 system. Flashback 9 Gold (Paddles will not work with this system) This system has a dedicated paddle games menu! I own this system here are the Problems I found: Original Atari paddles do not work on this system. AtGames Atari replica paddles do not work on this system. The enclosed paper instructions simply state, "Please plug your paddle controllers into each controller port on the game console." This does not work. SD card paddle games do not work Before playing a paddle game there are instructions on the screen to plug the paddles into the console after the game starts, still the paddles do not work. This is a big disappointment, the paddle games worked great on the Flashback 8. Hopefully AtGames will release download to fix this problem. There is no mention of special compatible paddles on the AtGames website. There is no mention of special compatible paddles on the Flashback 9 Gold instruction sheet.
  4. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/01/hyperkin_shows_off_retron_5_3-in-1_adapter_and_nintendo_switch_accessories_at_ces With all the discussion of RetroBit's Game Boy, and the soon-to-be-revealed switch, I missed this. It seems Hyperkin is trying to boost interest in the R5 by releasing an adaptor that lets you play Sega Games other than the Genesis. This is exceptionally cool, since it does something that retrogamers have wanted for a while: creates a set-top version of the Game Gear. I've been hearing people wishing for that for almost 20 years now. OTOH, I wonder if this is a sign that the R5 is getting a bit long in the tooth?
