Just wanted to share here today that I've managed to find the best method for getting a mouse working on quite a few 5200 games- 1 and 2 button 5200 games. Here's what you need: 1) A Masterplay Clone that doesn't only make Atari joysticks compatible with the 5200 but has 2-button game compatibility designed to get Sega Genesis controllers working (mine was the 2016 model made by Atariage member, Atariguy1021) 2) A Commodore 64 mouse (model 1351) 3) a 9 pin splitter cable (1 female end to 2 male ends) and a Sega Genesis controller- this is only necessary if you're wanting to play the 2 button games. The setup is explained in my latest presentation which includes a lot of gameplay footage:

The "River Raid Bold" thread got me thinking about this game: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/293861-river-raid-bold/ So here's a simple River Raid hack. The terrain and enemy placement is partially randomized, based on player input. Basically the LFSR that's used to generate the map is clocked an extra time, every time the player fires a shot. The "preview" you see before starting the game is still the original layout. Whichever level you start out on, looks like the original map for at least the first screens' worth, until you start shooting. Carefully counting your shots will result in repeatable maps. The random enemies still follow the rules of the game: the balloon doesn't appear until level 3, the diagonally-moving enemy planes don't appear until level 5, etc. Lower levels have fewer enemies, as usual. As usual, even-numbered levels split into multiple paths with islands in the center of the river, and odd-numbered levels only have one path. The random terrain doesn't actually make the game more difficult, except that it means you can't memorize the maps. The "Press START key Use joystick 1" text has been replaced with "Randomised by Urchlay", so you can tell which version of the game you're playing. Also, for reference, the md5sum of the ROM is 0842355056c3f7f8598a9ae38df3ccfe. Download here: http://urchlay.naptime.net/~urchlay/src/river_raid_random_hack.rom This is a raw ROM dump. In your emulator, select "Standard 8KB cartridge". If anyone's really interested, I can post a .xex file and/or a .car file with a header.

https://web.archive.org/web/20010720152157/http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com:80/ I found a 2001 version of my old site (Well, some of it) on the internet Archive. This site was a part time project of mine, mostly about 2D games on the Saturn. It was created with hand-coded HTML and MS Paint between 1998 and 2001, and it was basically my introduction to web pages and picture formats, early on. The site is still there but my Atari 5200 stuff took it all over eventually... Http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com/atari/atari5200.html I can't remember if I purposely deleted the original Sega stuff, or accidentally. But I thought it was gone forever, so it was a treat to search and rediscover it. Check it out, you might be mildly entertained. Edit - ha! I found another view with some additional, more Dreamcast oriented pages! I don't remember writing all these, too long ago. https://web.archive.org/web/20020302213934/http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com:80/index.html

It wasn't long after creating my first video, that I decided to add subtitles. This was for three main reasons. Firstly, I think it clarifies the script anywhere my diction is unclear. Secondly, it should help those for whom English is not a first language to know what's going on! Thirdly, I just like to tidy everything up, and nicking and tucking my script to match what I actually end up saying, scratches that itch nicely! So, with all that said (and for anyone who's actually interested;-), here's my most recent subtitled-up video - River Raid:-)

Hey guys! So I was digging through my garage for some Atari games and found a wooden box full of carts. Two of which were very interesting. The first being an Activision Red Labeled Prototype of River Raid (prototype number is 163) and a sweet double ender cart with Chuck Norris' Superkicks and Ghost Manor: Just curious if anyone here has any more information about these Atari games. If anyone can share some info or educated guesses on what they think the worth of these carts may be I'd greatly appreciate it. I did some google searches and found a post about the prototype but that post is a little old. Not sure if much has changed in the atari collecting game. And I couldn't find anything on the Superkicks/Ghost Manor carts. There's another Superkicks/Artillery Duel on ebay but not a Ghost Manor cart. Thanks! - Hugo

Hello, I received today some games (Super Pro Football, Hover Force, River Raid, LadyBug, etc.) I bought a few days ago in France for very good price. I didn't know really how was the boxes and big surprise : River Raid and Super Pro Football are MINT in BOX as you can see on the pictures for River Raid. But, it's not the reason I post this message : I check my games and now, I have 5 River Raid !! (4 CIB and 1 loose). I would like to know how many games you have for each "rare" games ? For an other example, I have 2 Super Cobra (1 CIB and 1 in box without instruction)... and 6 Spiker (Mint in box) (for the last example, of course I'm kidding....

Hello all, I don't particularly collect Non-US 2600 games (or 2600 seriously at all), but when I stumbled upon this, I decided I better grab it before someone else does. Even if it doesnt fit into my specific game collections, I like odd packaging, which makes this a lovely addition should it not have any value. I seem to have an HES copy of River Raid in its clamshell. It's been a bit abused by the pictures, but I have never seen this before, and I was unable to find another one like it, either in the Marketplace here, or on eBay, though frankly, I only did a cursory check. I have tried to take clear pictures, but my camera is not the greatest. Hopefully they illustrate what is needed. I will be scanning and trying to preserve the packaging as best possible, I just need to access a scanner at this time. What I would like to know is A) if there is any interest in these clamshelled games, B) if this has any value more than nostalgia, and C) if anyone wants a deal on it Thanks, Solo
