Today I've got a presentation to share that has to do with two products: 1) The new Playstation to 5200 Controller Adapter designed by Dr. Scott Baker and provided to me by Tony Stout. 2) Wico Command Control fitover joystick add-ons (3D-print design by Tony Stout). Both products are reviewed and demonstrated with games like Space Dungeon, Roboteon 2084, anf Missile Command. Check it out:

This adapter was named after The 8 Bit Guy that came with a SNES layout for a game that he is developing (for Commodore PET/64) that have controls very similar to Robotron, where the directional Pad controls the movement while the X Y A B buttons control the shooting direction. Full keyboard control is provided using the SELECT and START buttons as Alt/Modifiers keys The connections to the Atari 5200 should be done by use of two cable extensions. If cable on Port 2 is not connected the X Y A B buttons behave like TOP/BOTTOM buttons. The adapter should also support the NTT data controller. Like the regular SNES controller the X Y A B buttons revert to TOP/BOTTOM when the cable on port 2 is not connected. The circuit shall also provide support for NES controllers, though with limited keypad support. The connection to the SNES controller should be done by cutting an extension cable and soldering the wires to the PCB. The PCB is designed to fit within a Hammond 1593J case. Base code is ready. Next step is prototyping. Murray-BaseCode.zip

Eugene Jarvis - Atari - Podcast Interview - Creator of Robotron: 2084, Defender & Stargate This is probably my favourite interview to date as I have a long and in-depth chat with arcade, Atari and Williams legend Eugene Jarvis. Eugene shares some great stories of working at Atari, what it was like working with Nolan Bushnell, creating Defender and Stargate. He also talks what inspired him to make Robotron: 2084, Smash T.V. and loads more. He also looks at his current work at Raw Thrills where he keeping arcades alive with amazing innovations. He also talks about his views on the Jeff Minter's Defender 2000 on the Jaguar. The 1 hour 30 mins chat with Arcade Attack is honest, funny and really insightful. Robotron 2084 is well-known to use the double-controller set-up: one to move the hero, the other to move the aim of the gun. The 7800 version is a technically very, very good 8-bit port, but many don’t like the single-controller way of playing it. AtariAge has several high-quality double-set joysticks, but they may be expensive to some. But still they may want to get a double-controller to enjoy Robotron 2084. Here is what I got (without shipping, about 35-40$): B8E3749D-2FFD-4A2E-833D-F870B80E3DEE.MOV

Just wanted to share here today that I've managed to find the best method for getting a mouse working on quite a few 5200 games- 1 and 2 button 5200 games. Here's what you need: 1) A Masterplay Clone that doesn't only make Atari joysticks compatible with the 5200 but has 2-button game compatibility designed to get Sega Genesis controllers working (mine was the 2016 model made by Atariage member, Atariguy1021) 2) A Commodore 64 mouse (model 1351) 3) a 9 pin splitter cable (1 female end to 2 male ends) and a Sega Genesis controller- this is only necessary if you're wanting to play the 2 button games. The setup is explained in my latest presentation which includes a lot of gameplay footage:

Just wanted to pass on a little info today on how to use the X-Arcade Tankstick on your 2600. You can use three adapters: 1) The X-Arcade 5-in-1 adapter converts the Tankstick PC capability over to Playstation 1/2, Gamecube (Wii), and Dreamcast consoles. It's around $30 shipped. Use the Playstation plug-in on the left. 2) Tototek's $25 Playstation to Sega Genesis controller adapter. 3) Best Electronics Sega Genesis to Atari Systems Adapter Cable ($12) If you wish to play the dual joystick Atari 2600 games with both joysticks on the Tankstick, you can buy a total of 4 adapters to get it working: 1) X-Arcade 5-in-1 adapter (both Playstation plug-ins are utilized) 2) Tototek Playstation to Sega Genesis controller adapter (goes to the left controller port along with the Best Electronics cable) 3) Another Tototek Playstation to Sega Genesis controller adapter (goes to the right controller port) 4) Best Electronics Sega Genesis to Atari Systems Adapter Cable (goes to the left port) I made a new discovery: For some reason you don't need a second Best Electronics cable on the right controller port to get the job done right- just one on the left port. This also applies to the Atari 7800 when playing Robotron with the Tankstick and adapters. Dual joystick Atari 2600 games include the following titles: Defender II (same as Stargate), Radar Lock, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Riddle of the Sphynx, Spy Hunter, Solaris, and Video Life. I do not own the Kipper2k PSX Joystick adapter (Playstation to Atari adapter), so I have not tested it to see if it works with the Tankstick along with the 5-in-1 adapter. I have heard that it does work, though, and if that's true you can eliminate the purchase of the Best Electronics cable. It may be truly the best way to go because it offers some programmability of the Playstation controller buttons. It is $23 plus the cost of shipping. Here's my recent presentation on using the Tankstick on the 2600 (and 7800) along with some gameplay:
