  1. That's all it is. Just a look at my collection!
  2. Any help on this... Recapped my GG (retrosix SMD cap kit), all working now except; Screen is pretty much washed out (contrast adj. works fine) Not all games work (sonic pretty much always works but others either boot to a green screen or nothing at all) Have reflowed the card connector, and screen ribbon. Interestingly once I recapped the sound and power boards, the screen was in colour, but after trying a few games it went back to really washed out. Are there things I should know about the LCD? Places to push or check etc.. Power board outputs correct voltages, both on power and on batteries. I will have a modern upgrade on the power board coming in a few days just in case the regulator/transistors are faulty. Carts have been taken apart and cleaned thoroughly, same deal. This was done because the games are intermittent (the ones that work) which led me to believe connection issue with the games. So everybody, what is next to try? I have a multimeter etc. so can take readings, measure cap values etc. Thank you so much in advance.
  3. Hello folks, I am working on a Sega Game Gear (VA1 main board that, like most of them at this point, had leaky caps that I replaced with one of the many cap kits available on the net. The problem I am having is that, despite replacing the caps, the screen just shows up black. Some folks have had luck with reflowing the caps they replaced but of course I couldn't get off that easy. I was wondering if anyone had and experience with diagnosing issues with these units? Here is what I have done so far: Replaced all caps on the sound, power, and main boards Checked continuity between the new caps and the next component in the circuit Measured the output of the power board (both 5v pins seem good as well as the 34v pin for the backlight) Checked that the backlight works (that one is obvious since it either comes on or it doesn't) Measured some of the points on IC1 as well as other points on the 5v rail and noticed that it is getting about 4.88v. Not sure if the voltage drop is expected or if that means there is an issue? I found a schematic for this unit online but with my limited electrical engineering skills, I have no idea how to tell what things need to be present for these units to start. I would love to learn how to troubleshoot these issues (and how to better read that schematic) so any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Here is a link to the schematic: Game Gear VA1 Service Manual
  4. Here we have one of the extremely hard to find and highly sought after Sega Game Gear handheld consoles by Majesco. It has been tested and works great. As many of you know, in 2000, Sega licensed its Game Gear production to Majesco. Yes, the same Majesco that made the "holy grail" MK-1451 Model 2 Genesis (best audio and video encoders of any Model 2). The Majesco Game Gear is well-known for its improved quality capacitors (less prone to failures) and better screen with more accurate color representation compared to the previous Game Gear models. Given the late production run, the Majesco models are also significantly newer, as Majesco produced the Game Gear between 2000 and 2002, while Sega first launched the Game Gear way back in 1991. Please see pictures for exact condition of Game Gear. The screen has some light surface scratches and a bit of dust as seen. The start button has an imperfection in one corner of the plastic but it functions fine. The unit is powered by six AA batteries or the standard Sega MK-2103 Model 2 Genesis power supply. Neither batteries nor a power supply are included in this listing. Asking $110 including shipping to anywhere in the continental US. Willing to ship to Canada but you'll have to chip in a bit extra (and be willing to endure inevitable border delays). Please send me a PM with interest or any questions. Thanks.

  9. First I read something somewhere about a virtual boy mod that's made that I'll let you connect a virtual Boy 2 some modern TV. Anyone know where that is? I got a couple other questions. one cannot be hooked up natively to a CRT TV in component video or RGB via SCART? Also if hooked up my HDMI is there some way to get it in 3D just like the virtual boy originally was? My TV accepts side-by-side half as a 2d compatible 3D. Also in terms of the processor are the graphics considered white monochrome and red is just the theme filter? Also I see people wondering how you stream portable video games on Twitch and mixer. This would be an answer for virtual Boy, a Nintendo has official answers for Gameboy on both Super NES and GameCube. someone was talking about a Game Gear player on the 32x cartridge where you insert the Game Gear cartridge inside the 32x cartridge. The reason why 32x is because Genesis doesn't have enough colors to accurately display game gear. and since this website is called atariage why not a Lynx player for the Jaguar? insert a lynx cartridge inside a Jaguar cartridge shell?
