  1. I'm pleased to announce the release of the version 4.0 firmware update for U1MB, Incognito, SIDE2, SIDE3, 1088XEL, and 1088XLD. The update includes a redesigned SIDE loader, and completely redesigned BIOS plugins with support for SIDE3, Sophia 2, and PokeyMAX. Also newly introduced is support for an NTSC colour palette in VBXE (loaded transparently when the machine is turned on). User documentation has also been comprehensively updated, with sections covering the new SIDE3 loader and Incognito. Most excitingly, Incognito is now capable of supporting firmware plugins, subject to release of a CPLD JED update which I have been testing for Candle. The SIDE3 loader is now capable of native PDM (FujiConvert) playback as well (see the manual for discussion of all new features). https://atari8.co.uk/ultimate-1mb-firmware-update-4-0-released/ Since I spent the entirety of Saturday preparing and uploading all this stuff (after spending the previous day moving my website and work emails), I'll forego further disucssion for the moment, and hopefully answer any questions as we go on. I will probably make a video showing a topical overview of what's been released as well. All ROMs inlclude the newly released SpartaDOS X 4.49e; I thought we might as well get in sync with the SIDE3 ROM, which uses this version by default. Meanwhile, SpartaDOS 3.x, Bewe-DOS and RealDOS users can find RTC drivers for U1MB and SIDE3 on the APT toolkit disk. I would not be surprised if I screwed something up while preparing the files here, so if anything looks anomalous, please let me know. Likewise, please use this thread to discuss any installation or usability issues. The menus in the setup menu and loader are quite different now (many controls are 'modal' to facilitate interactive facilities via callbacks), but this actually makes things like setting the clock quite a bit easier. Feedback from testers of pre-release versions (indeed, some variation of this firmware has found its way onto all U1MB and Incognito machines which have been through my hands these past few months) has been positive, so hopefully the only work that remains to do will involve minor bug fixes. Meanwhile, now that this update is released, I hope to focus on ambitious new features in the SIDE3 loader, such as FAT write capability, more media playback support, and auto-mounting media. Update (060621) Thanks to Doug_in_NC on Discord for immediately spotting that I'd broken joystick trigger handling in main BIOS 4.02 for U1MB and Incognito. Fixed in 4.03, so please head over to the firmware section and update (U1MB/1088 users may update the 'FIRMWARE.ROM' file, and Incognito users need flash only 'IBIOS.ROM'). Blog post: https://atari8.co.uk/u1mb-and-incognito-firmware-4-0-bug-fix/ The 'complete' ROM images also have the update (disregard file creation date). SIDE3 Loader Update (230621) For those who already updated their SIDE3 loader or are yet to do so, please be sure to download version 0.40, which fixes MegaCart, Sic! and AtariMax 1Mbit/8Mbit emulation bugs. https://atari8.co.uk/firmware/side3/ Update (070721) Blog post: https://atari8.co.uk/u1mb-incognito-1088xel-and-1088xld-firmware-update/
  2. Received a brand-new SIDE3 on Monday. Straight out of the box, I upgraded it to version 0.40 of @flashjazzcat's firmware and installed an 8GB Kingston Micro SD card (class 10, U1) in an adapter. Everything seems to work fine in terms of cartridge loading functionality. However, the RTC seems to lose a significant amount of time - about 20 minutes per day, give or take. At this rate, it looks as though a loss of about 2.5 hours / week will be the rough average. The battery is presumed healthy as it reads dead-on 3 volts outside of the cartridge. Use is in a 600XL with a 64K internal RAM upgrade and an 800XL with both an internal 256K RAM upgrade and UAV. Both machines are powered by 5V 2.5A USB power supplies (ex-RasPi) through cable adapters from the usual suspects. Any thoughts? I'm at something of a loss to explain it.
  3. Since over a week i have problems to get my Side3 running with SDX and register the SD. To understand the following hardware is used: 800XL with 320k megaram expansion, Sophia2, Side3 Booting without SD-Card: Booting with SD-Card inserted: Using the Sideloader an SD-Card all works fine an i can start ATR files till 180kb. But if i'm using my spare 800XL without any upgrades SDX boot up and recognise the SD-Card every time. For me it look like that the PSU is weak. (apologize for the wrong term) Any suggestions?
  4. Hi, At the beginning I wanted to say that SIDE3 is a great piece of hardware that I have been waiting for a long time for. Many thanks to @candle and @flashjazzcat for a great job! Of course also to the @lotharek for the great production quality. However, while browsing through the collection of my different types of files (ATRs, CARs, ROMs...), I came across a problem: 512kB images for the SIC! catridge are not supported correctly: - SIC31IN1.ROM - some games start, trying to start others ends with SELFTEST. - The Best....car - mounting the image ends with the screen flashing. There is no problem with that files in the other cartridge (Ultimate). I attach both files. SIC31in1.rom The Best Polish ATARI Games.car
  5. I´ve updated my SIDE3 to the latest Firmware and now wanted to access the FAT-partition from SDX. I know, there is a huge thread, but I didn´t find a solution there, except from copying a prepared image. But I want to do it from scratch. First: I have a Mac with OS X Big Sur and a Windows 10 machine with the latest update. Atari800XL with U1MB, SIDE3, SIO2SD, 1 SD Card with 4GB and 1 SD Card with 16GB. What I did: - 2 GB SD Card in SIDE3 - Boots into SDX 4.49e - FDISK: 2 Partitions: 2000MB FAT16, remainder APT - Create APT Partition "C" with 65535 sectors bootable - format that with FORMAT from SDX - put SD into Mac, use DISKUTIL as described by Jon - successfully got FAT16 partition, which the Mac mounts. Put two *.xex on it - Boot SIDE3 into Fileloader: FAT-partition recognized, can start both files (and wasted an hour playing TimePilot) - Boot SIDE3 into SDX, using FDISK to install FAT as EXT partition - try to access DK: - Error 138 - Install FATFS.SYS 0.87L (from SDX toolkit): Still Error 138 So: Everything´s working, but I can´t access the FAT16 partition from SDX. CHKFAT says "Not a FAT disk" Next try: Use Windows 10 to format the FAT volume. No success. Last try: 16GB SD card, initialise as FAT32 (4GB), format it with Windows 10. Same as above: All is working, but I can´t read the FAT partition from SDX. The Config.sys on the SIDE3 is unchanged, I´ve also tried loading FATFS via AUTOEXEC.BAT, but simply can´t read the FAT partition. Any help (that does not sound like "use Linux", simply don´t have and want it) appreciated. Edit: Stupid me, I just realise, I used CHKFAT on the APT (C:) partition. Will do correctly now, one moment. Addition: At the last try I forgot to give the FAT partition a Drive number (DK:). When doing this, I get Error 148 and CHKFAT looks like this: Still can´t access K:
