Is it possible to have two or more Atari 8-bit computers share a chain of SIO devices, either simultaneously or in turn? I'm thinking of something like the Handic VIC-Switch for the Commodore 8-bit computers. I also asked this elsewhere and was pointed to the "Automatic Two Computer Interface" mentioned in the page linked below. It only supports two computers but, based on how it works, I think it could be expanded to support more. You will have to page down a few times to find it: http://www.mathyvannisselroy.nl/special%20stuff.htm At the end of that section, he mentions the A2RI. I'm not sure whether this is the same device but it seems to have the same functionality. This is in German: http://www.mathyvannisselroy.nl/2r_bauan.PDF Does anyone know whether anyone is selling such a device, or know of other options? Thanks.

So I pulled my 800XL and gear from storage. It'll boot up to READY prompt, play a cartridge game, and pass all self tests. However, I'm unable to use any of my peripherals (2x 810 drives - one Happy, 1010 recorder, and 1025 printer). Any help isolating the problem is greatly appreciated. Here's what I've tried so far... - CSAVE: No apparent issues trying to save "hello world" program to cassette. Beeps and starts spinning while recording. Back to READY prompt and recorder stops when done. - CLOAD: Error 138. Apparently didn't record. RETURN key properly starts recorder playing but no noises. - LIST/LOAD D1 & D2: Error 130. Nothing. Neither drive will spin when turning computer on. OPTION-on goes straight to test screen. Drive switches are set to 1 & 2, and have tried swapping them, plus each individually as D1. Note: Drives will power up with momentary busy light when computer is off. - LIST "P:": Error 138. Nothing. Printer head resets position when turning on computer. I've tried all peripherals daisy chained and individually, swapping out the IO cables with same results. I removed all socket chips from the motherboard, cleaned everything and no difference. Need a new POKEY chip? Anything else it could be? Thanks for the help guys!

I was testing an 810 drive yesterday and initially I thought it was broken. I had the slide switches set for drive ID 3 and it was not responding. But I decided to test all drive IDs and I found that the drive always thinks it is drive 1. Using it as drive 1 seems to work ok. I was able to make a boot floppy and save/load some test files. Has anyone else seen this? If I clean the switches will it fix the problem? Or are there other fixes I should perform like maybe installing new switches?

I'm going over the instructions here http://sio2sd.gucio.pl/wiki/HighSpeed_en except I have Atari 800. It looks like C184 and C185 should be removed, so I think that's clear. From this it looks like there already is a 4.7K resistor from 5V to Data Out on the 800 though? I think maybe I don't need this. Has anyone done this?

Hello everyone: Today I got this in the mail, its an ESP32 Wifi device, and since my SIO2SD device is broken I was thinking of hooking up the SIO cable to the 25 pin connector somehow, this is a picture of the ESP32 Wifi device, is it possible to get connections going with Bobterm on the Atari 800xl and this device or do I need a serial adapter of some sort? Here is the Wifi decive in a pic:

Hiya, I remember trying to format a disk from a small self-booting machine-code program using SIO, but although my program would set the correct code for single-density (720 128-byte sectors) formatting (code 33 or 21h), when i put in the code (for loc. 770 - DCOMND) for double-density (1040 128-byte sectors, (true medium-density)) the disk would not format, I can't remember what operation code I used as I can't seem to find it anywhere, but whatever I used was obviously wrong. Does anyone have this op. code they can tell me, oh, & any 'true double-density (720 256-byte sectors) op. codes I might need, incl. the true DD format op. code, Thankyou very much to all that can help me.

I have created another video as I love doing doing this, this one for Atari Max, who is next on my free video creation kick? Shall we promote Atari BBS's in my next video, I need some actual screens from the BBSs that are up and running , maybe an AtariAge video would be appropriate , how about it admin? I can do anything in a video, as you can see... Russ AtariMax Video

I had a thought about the 850. It's a simple bit-banger, so what are the limits of the hardware? Is it possible to kick up the baud rate between the 850 and the computer to 38,400? Even if this involved changing to a faster crystal, it would still be a great thing. Ideas, Thoughts...?
