I'm putting together a spinner mounted on an upside-down mouse (pillow block bearings with a knob), as I've seen describe here in the hardware gallery. It works well except I have to mount the whole thing on the side of the mouse where there's not much room. Is it possible to change Stella to use the mouse x-axis instead of the y-axis for the paddle? That would make a more natural position for the knob. I'm using Stella 6.0.1 on raspberry pi with retropi. thanks in advance. -Doug

Here's the newest addition to the MiniVex controller lineup for Vectrex. The MiniVex V features a steel case and an adjustable rapid fire feature for button #4, like the other models do. This one's got a LH mounted spinner control and a RH mounted analog paddle control. The spinner can be used with some homebrew games and an assortment of original Vectrex titles that have been modified for spinner use. It also doubles as an extra fire button, just push down on it. The paddle control can be used with the game "Hyperchase" in its original, unmodified Vectrex cartridge format, as well as Vectrace, Spike's Water Balloons, Vaboom, and a few other homebrew titles. There's also a switch that selects the X or Y axis for the paddle, which allows you to navigate menus on multi-carts AND crank up the thrusters on Moon Lander. All in all, a versatile package. Need additional info? Please post here or PM me. Larry

Ever wanted to play Tempest 2000 with a spinner? I have a low-priced way to do it. Here's what you need: Time investment: 15 to 20 minutes Hardware: 1) A computer that can run Windows XP-compatible games. 2) A USB laser mouse. Software: My personal preference is a freeware Tempest 2000 clone game called 'Typhoon 2001' which can be downloaded from various places around the web. There are other ways to play Tempest 2000 on a PC (such as owning the DOS T2K disc), but Typhoon 2001 is better because of its superior analog mouse-control. Tools and materials to make a spinner that mounts on the laser mouse: 1) A better than average triwing fidget spinner (yes, I said you need to spend money on a fidget spinner) 2) Sticky tack (my favorite brand is Loc-tite Funtac). 3) 2-liter bottle cap 4) a piece of cardboard that's thin and rigid 5) sharp blade tool 6) Scissors 7) Marker The assembly process is shown here: (5 minutes and 53 seconds in shows Typhoon 2001 being played with the fidget spinner-modded mouse). Also: There are Jaguar emulator possibilities that could be considered...

After experimenting for weeks I have found a way to get lag-free control on the 5200 digital games as well as a few of the Trakball titles with the X-arcade Tankstick and my custom Tron 80's Arcade Multicontroller (which includes a spinner). This is done with daisy-chained adapters/cables and all the components are currently in production, so it's possible for anyone to get this set up. In the presentation I show a number of 5200 games being played in ways you've not seen them played before on the 5200 including Pac-Man, Beamrider, Choplifter, Dreadnaught Factor, Meteorites, Star Trek, and Zone Ranger. Hope some of you can benefit from this:

Hi again, Vectrex-aholics. Just wanted to share a brief glimpse of two new MiniVex creations. In the first photo is the Mini-Twist, a pint sized spinner controller that includes all four button functions (numbered 1-4, left to right) and a rocker switch on the back to scroll through on-screen menus. Like the other MiniVex spinner units, the spinner doubles as an extra fire button. In the second photo is the Driving Package...a spinner controller that includes a detachable foot pedal. You can use it like any other spinner controller, but for an added fun element you can plug the foot pedal into the back and select any button 1-4 with the rotary dial. Using it with driving games is NOT required of course, but it was indeed made with that possibility in mind. This one is also menu compatible with a rocker switch for scrolling through menus, and the spinner doubling as an extra fire button. Wish any more info? Please contact me or post here. Larry

A friend of mine has loaned me his custom Jaguar Arcade Stick with spinner, so I gave it a whirl. The games definitely were enhanced by the arcade-like control (played Tempest 2000, Primal Rage, and Raiden, among others). Check it out here:
