  1. From the album: My Collection

One of the rarest Atari Corp. variants, only a handful were made. Its a good thing people don't know how rare these things are otherwise they'll go up in price something fierce.
  2. I made a scan of Star Raiders because I saw they didn't have that one yet, and I used the Contact link at the bottom of the page, but never heard anything. I was wondering if they had some sort of official method for submitting manual scans. Anyone know? Thanks,

  4. So a long while ago I had a bright idea on a "captain's chair" 'controller' for playing Star Raiders on the 8-bit / 5200. My thought is a joystick on one arm of the chair (e.g. on the right, for right-handed folks), with a thumb trigger on top, or index finger trigger on the front, so it can be controlled entirely with one hand. On the other side, there'd be a keypad controller (like used by the 2600 version of the game), offering the various toggle controls: front view (F) aft view (A) long range view (L) galactic map (G) attack computer (C) targeting computer (T) target selector (M) shields (S) hyperwarp (H) pause (P) That's 10 keys, so totally doable with a 12-button keyboard controller, connected to the second controller port. Finally, on that same side (e.g., left, for right-handed users) would be an analog throttle, like you see in a boat. Fully forward (towards the TV) would be "twin-ion engine" at full-speed (9), and fully back (toward the player) would be full-stop (0). This would be connected to the paddle input of controller port 1, alongside the main digital joystick input (if I'm reading things right, it looks like the POT stuff is used by keyboard controllers). Obviously, a hacked version of Star Raiders would be required for this to work (read paddle for engine control, read keyboard controller for other keyboard control). It'd be a pretty cool set-up, though, don't you think? Sadly, I don't have the skill to do either the hardware, or the ROM hacking. 😛
  5. I'm looking to purchase the kid's controller for the 2600 and some or all of the overlays for the games. I am also looking for the overlay for Star Raiders. Please let me know and we can negotiate.
  6. Hi, I am an A8 user since 1987 but using emulators as my real Atari is packed far away. Have been playing Star Raiders under Atari 800win which does a good job of this classic. Years ago, I attempted a project to convert a CX-80 trackball I got of ebay to convert to USB. After butchering three different mice to make the optical sensors work, I put the bits away and haven't tried since. I still want to play Star Raiders with a better controller, as wanting to improve my game with some acurate controls. One the CX-80 there was a switch to make it mimic a joystick if I remember correctly. Now, I know Star Raiders doesn't support a trackball officially, is there way of using a mouse, trackpad or touch pad with any A8 emuator? I know a thread a while back people wanted to patch or change Star Raiders, the game is perfect apart from supporting some better controls.
  7. First off, sorry if this has been mentioned here before- I searched around the forum and couldn't find anything about it. I was shopping around on eBay for 8-bit carts, when I noticed that someone was selling a copy of "Star Raider". I was like "hmm... no, I think your selling a copy of Star Raiders", but I checked out the picture and sure enough: "Star Raider" listing eBay Auction -- Item Number: 140647645507 Has anyone ever seen this before? If so, how common is it? I realize this isn't the most amazing Atari discovery of all time, but just thought I'd bring it up for anyone who's interested in this kinda stuff.
  8. Numbers roll endlessly across the bottom of the screen and fighters swoop back and forth across your view. Lights flash intermittently as once-critical alerts become secondary concerns, and you don't even have time to wonder if you're going to live to see the next few minutes. Is the enemy behind you or in front? A blast that you're sure didn't come from your fingers goes comes shooting into view and you pull up, hard. The next few seconds are a blur, as you pull the trigger ten, maybe fifteen times, and a spray of particles fills the space around you. There's always that one brief moment... that moment when you're not sure if the particles came from your ship or theirs... Tell me about your experiences. It will help me to cope.
