  1. Hi all! Last month I saw the following ad on eBay: I thought the appeal of this kit for homebrew development was very limited: No bankswitching/mapper (only 2K games or 4K games with further modifications on the board) It required messing around with UV lamps, programmers, etc Required some knowledge of electronics Buying the parts separately would probably be less expensive Not possible to ship as a product to customers It would be probably easier and faster to use one of the existing USB/SD carts to test on a real hardware. This did make me think though that I had never seen a development kit for the 2600 which would allow homebrewers without knowledge of electronics to self publish their games. If a mapper is required, then that knowledge need goes up real fast. As in Europe we have very limited offers of good homebrew games available (most of them are from the USA and shipping quickly becomes a problem), I thought about making this my next project. The idea is to have blank carts (populated with all required components but without any game image in them) and a simple to use cable and PC software which would allow the user to create a cart ready to be shipped to customers as well as test games in a real atari. Is this something that would interest the homebrew community? Here are some requirements I have come up with: The final product must cost under 10€ (populated cart PCB) All components must be easy to find. Preference should be given to components still in production Must be usable by people with no experience in electronics No soldering Must support mappers (the ones used by batari Basic at a minimum, as a lot of people seem to use bB) No physical alterations to select the desired mapper (or no mapper) Must fit in a standard Atari cartridge case Components should be SMD to keep production cost as low as possible All comments will be appreciated!! Cheers.
  2. My UnoCart arrived yesterday! (Thanks @MacRorie!) The first thing I did was install a bunch of roms on an 8gb card and sort them into sub folders. I put the card in the cart and put the cart into my rev14 4 switch woody, fired it up and tested a few games. Pitfall II works great and I am also able to play the starpath Frogger. This thing is awesome! It’s like a RetroPi, but on original hardware! Best of both worlds! i am going to try out a few Homebrews next. How did I live without this thing before?
  3. Hi All, The UnoCart is my latest multi-cart design for the Atari XL & XE. Its basically the little-brother of the Ultimate Cart (using a cheap microcontroller) and you can read about its development here. The UnoCart cartridge uses a micro SD card for storage, so you can reprogram it simply by copying new files onto the SD card from your PC/Mac. Like the Ultimate Cart, the UnoCart can emulate a wide range of cartridges and it also launches XEX files. However it is limited to 128k cartridge and XEX files, rather than the 1024k limit of the Ultimate cart. Most importantly, this means it does not emulate 8mbit Atarimax cartridges - so you still need an Ultimate Cart for that. However, it does have a couple of other features not present in the Ultimate Cart: - Fast search of all directories on the SD card, including partial matches (so you can search for "dig" and it will find "Mr Dig.XEX" and "Dig Dug.ROM"). - Limited support for ATR files (including the 16Meg ATR game compilations) with read and write support. There is also a review video from ndary below showing some of the features: Note there are a couple of inaccuracies in the video- it uses micro SD cards (not micro sims) and it does NOT actually support AtariMax 8mbit ROMs. You can read about the full set of features in the PDF manual available on the project website. The shell is a cheap 3d printed design which is mainly intended to keep the PCB safe and allow it to be inserted in an XL. It is not a proper Atari cartridge shell. The firmware is open source, and was written by myself and flashjazzcat, and we are planning to make a few cartridges available for sale. If you'd like an UnoCart, please reply to this thread (please don't ask for more than 2 cartridges). The price is £40 cased or £35 uncased + £3 P&P. There will be 14 cartridges available initially. I've got 5 ready to post out, so the first 5 will be dispatched immediately. Flashjazzcat is going to make a further 9, but these won't be ready for 2-3 weeks. For those that miss out, or prefer to DIY, there will be a construction article in Excel magazine issue #4, involving only a small amount of through-hole soldering and a readily available development board. Reserve your copy of the magazine here. Robin
  4. Hello! I have a question, is it possible to make NTSC atari 2600 roms to PAL (50) ? For example play Adventure II, Yar's return, Flag capture and rare games, what is only in NTSC on my Atari? I have unocart 2600 with SD, but scroll lines, when I use that games. Thank you.
  5. Hi all, I have created the following post yesterday: Someone just told me that I should have created it in this subforum. I don't want to duplicate the post but I have also not found how to move the post here. Any suggestions? Also, if you can comment on the bankswitch schemes you currently use in your programs and any experience you can share on how to implement a bankswitch controller on a 8bit Microchip PIC will be much appreciated. Cheers!
