My friend gave me an Atari for my son to play with, but it keeps freezing. I can scroll a couple pages on the home screen when browsing games, but after I pass through like 5 or 6 games it freezes and it makes that sound the old Nintendo used to make when it would freeze. Sometimes I can select a game but it freezes immediately, and sometimes I can select a game then it freezes when I push start or after 1 minute or so of playing. Every time it freezes I have power it off and back on and it keeps happening, I've had it almost a week and haven't been able to pay a single game on it with my kid yet. I have the yellow and white plugs correctly plugged into the back of my TV, and the power cord and DC are both plugged in..I'm using a 12V DC though because I don't have any 5V, which is labeled under the DC jack on the console. So I started looking for firmware to update it, then realized I don't even know what kind of Atari Flashback it is, it looks like the flashback 3 after searching Google images..but it's not labeled, it just says Atari flashback classic game console. It has a gold stripe on the front top and the joysticks do not have the 3 red buttons on the side of the base, just the fire button on top and the joystick. All the firmware updates I've skimmed say to plug a USB into the console, but my console does not have any USB ports , only the 2 joystick ports on the front and the 1 DC jack on the back next to the power cord which doesn't come out. I've attached photos because I know one of the experts here will know what kind it is by seeing it. 🕹️ Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated!! 🙂 Can someone please tell me what kind of Atari this is so I can get the correct firmware to update it if needed? Anyone else experience this problem, what was your fix??

There is a new update currently available for the Atari VCS 800 just now. There doesn't seem to be any release notes as of yet. Allow your Atari VCS 800 enough time to fully update, it can take 10-15 mins or more to update depending on various factors such as if your running a wired or wireless connection etc . I think this is the update that resolves the issue where you need to flash your system out of the box to get it up and running, although i could be wrong on that!. I would also like to add that this wont fix the current zip code issue that's a completely different thing before everyone who has the issue gets disappointed after updating, this serves to fix bugs under the hood and of course adds a few new features 🙂

Hello all, after almost 3 years a new Firmware is ready for download. And yes, you remember correct, i started the entry 3 years ago with similar wording. What is new? - the content is shown in the menu - auto-size mode for *.lnx-files - modify up to 128Bytes at once for 93Cx6 chip - code optimation (e.g. Flash erase routine) - Support of 93C66 and 93C86* for all functions with USB (93C66 and 93C86* was requested from some developers - *93C86 only for Board 6) - only Board 1 with PCB 1.3d4: - bank mode available - 2 independet banks with 512KB (possible to switch back to fast-erase mode as before) - It is possible to switch between the banks if the FlashCard is inserted into the Lynx. As long as the LED is flashing, it is possible to press Anykey to change to the other bank. - To use the changed bank, the Lynx must be switched off and on again. - only Board 1 with PCB 1.3a4 limited edition: - optimation of demo cancle - the FlashCard do no longer start up the demo again if the demo is cancled to early (only 25th anni!) - If the FlashCard is inserted into the Lynx, it is possible to activate and deactivate the demo as long as the status LED is flashing by using the Ankey - To use the changed demo setting, the Lynx must be switched off and on again. - Easteregg Please use "Firmware V140N 20160107 Language V140x.fcb1" for Board 1 FlashCard. (PCB V1.271/1.276/1.280/1.3a4/1.3d4) Please use "Firmware V640N 20160107 Language V640s.fcb6" for Board 6 FlashCard. (PCB V1.913/1.923) Please note: at first use after Firmware update the FlashCard will ask to press the Anykey to initialize some parameters. So Rockstar recently releases a patch to remove a whole bunch of songs from GTAIV (great patch guys!) because the "liscences" had expired. That's funny, I thought it used to be if a song was in a game it was in a game....? https://www.polygon.com/2018/4/27/17292836/gta-4-soundtrack-removed-song-list-patch At any rate, i haven't fired up this game since the update and was wondering if I could simply turn off my Wifi when playing this game to avoid having the songs removed. This is one in a long list of reasons modern gaming annoys me. But the previous update was quite stable and the game is pretty complete at this point, so I see no need to do anymore updates to remove content. Has anyone thought about this attempted this yet?

I just filed my taxes, and anticipate getting a Wii U with my refund. I do not have internet at my house. I do have a friend with a stable wifi, but he has two toddlers who are very curious! So what happens if I just try to run the console right out of the box without an update? Thanks. -
I am a new member to AtariAge forums, and this is my first post here. I am a lifelong fan of Atari, and I play it everyday. My latest hobby is creating artwork for MESS to enhance the appearance, and to an extent the gameplay, of my favorite titles, but that is not what this post is really about. In doing artwork for Dodge `Em, and maybe this is more a consequence of the emulation inaccuracies as opposed to the game code but I wouldn't know where to begin to explore that, I noticed that the start of a car's motion through a gap doesn't really match the start of the gap on the screen. It shortcuts it by almost half a car length. I can tell this by using the pause (P) and advance frame (Shift+P while paused) features of the emulator. Likewise the car detects collision with the wall at the other side of the gap before the car actually reaches it. This is problematic at high speed and towards the center of the screen where there is almost no margin to speak of in order to pre-empt the true gap as opposed to the visual one onscreen. With the masking and hay bale graphics in my bezel I can somewhat compensate for that, but if it really is a coding bug, I would love to see it squashed by one of the talented members of this forum. I don't intend this to be an evaluation of the current 8-bit Donkey Kong. Additionally, there are other threads comparing the various ports.. I am just wondering how difficult it would be to convert the Ocean version to the 8-bit. The Commodore 64 version looks awefully close to the Amstrad CPC version. The Amstrad used software sprites, and it is powered by a Z80. The C-64 uses it's Sprite chip, and it is powered by the 6502. However, it seems like SOME porting was done where possiuble. It would be nice to see that version duplicated on the 8-bit, as the graphics are a little more arcade-like, Mario looks like Mario, Donkey Kong looks like DK, and all of the screen levels are present and proportional. Don't get me wrong... I love the Atari version. The Atari version has a better jump (with spring back), Mario ducks down on the third frame, and the gameplay is uniquely fast. I am a huge fan of the arcade, but I like the Atari version in an apple/oranges way. I would also appreciate a version like the Amstrad/C-64 on the Atari.
