I guess most of you have seen this elsewhere, but I'm posting here in the 4A sub-forum since you Chicago guys may want to look at it for your plans this year. Use the 4A Discord and youtube for a virtual event, eh? Or not, but it never hurts to take a look at what other people are doing. The vcf west event a month or so ago went well, too. https://vcfmw.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d177060bd4511e27d05266a5&id=edbb3e619f&e=77504a6f06 Enjoy, jbdigriz

---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 8 Aug 2020 14:26:31 +0000 From: VCFMW Planning Committee <info@vcfmw.org> Subject: VCF Midwest 15 Virtual Event! Let's do this thing online http://vcfmw.org/virtual.html https://mailchi.mp/1f03fef220b3/vcf-midwest-15-virtual-event?e=9a1d7203e1 A Virtual VCF Midwest? We're going to try... The year is 2020. It should have been the 15th Vintage Computer Festival Midwest, exceeding Number 14 in size and scope and all dimensions and laying (temporary) waste to another hotel ballroom. Instead, in between our masked forays into the Outerworld, we retire Smaug-like to our silicon hoards, awaiting hapless adventures not with flame but with fables: new projects, new acquisitions, new discoveries and, as ever, old electrons coaxed into motion again. So why wait another year? In lieu of an in-person show this year, we invite you to submit a video presentation for VCF Midwest! It can be the talk you were hoping to give on stage, a presentation of what would have been your exhibit, a tour of your collection or any other way you can dream up to show off your classic computing collections and projects. We only ask that it be on-topic for our event and that the audio is clear enough that you can be understood by your audience. No recording next to the running VAX! To join in the virtual fun, send us a video from 15 to 45 minutes in length following the instructions below. Your video will then be presented on the VCFMW YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/vcfmidwest as a YouTube Premiere https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9080341 in your time slot, where you can field questions in the real time chat as it plays. The chat comments will be archived, so they can be replayed for future repeat viewings. If you've got an idea for a video, email us before September 1 (the sooner the better!) at virtual@vcfmw.org with: * How you’d like to be credited (real name or alias ok) * A one-line title/topic for your video * A short paragraph as an Abstract (plaintext, but can include URLs) * What time of day (morning, afternoon, or evening) you’d prefer your video shown If accepted, completed videos are due to us by Noon on Monday, September 7th. You can get your video to us in one of three ways: * Provide a download link for us to pick it up (FTP, dropbox, mega.nz, uucp, fidonet, etc.) * Upload via anonymous FTP to ftp.oldskool.org in the /incoming directory * If you have no edit capability and would like to stream directly to Youtube from your phone or tablet, go ahead and do so, making your video “Unlisted”, then email us mailto:virtual@vcfmw.org?subject=VCFMW 15 Video Link the link and we’ll pick it up. Be sure to include some or all of the filename in your email so that we match videos up with the right people. Please note that presentation submissions, as well as time slots, are subject to VCFMW officer approval. We'll see you online! - The VCF Midwest Crew Twitter: https://twitter.com/vcfmidwest Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/342920329690394/ Website: http://vcfmw.org Email: mailto:info@vcfmw.org

---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 10 Jul 2020 15:36:20 +0000 From: VCF Midwest Planning <info@vcfmw.org> Subject: VCF Midwest 2020 Cancellation View this email in your browser https://us18.campaign-archive.com/?e=56d4eeb602&u=6d177060bd4511e27d05266a5&id=02ddfacc10 ** We regret to announce... ------------------------------------------------------------ There will be no VCF Midwest this year. The conditions imposed upon us by the CoViD-19 pandemic and related government regulations, as well as a depressed expected turn-out figure, will make it impossible for us to host an event of the size and quality our dedicated fans have come to expect. Thus today we have terminated our 2020 contract with Waterford Banquets and the Clarion Inn hotel. We recommend cancelling your hotel and travel reservations, if you have made them, and we hope that you have not been too greatly inconvenienced by our change of plans. We also wish to express our thanks for the many responses we received to our survey sent back in May. Your feedback was informative, interesting, humorous and most of all, essential in helping us make the right decision about this year's show. The good news is that we have an excellent relationship with our host venue and have already locked in our contract for 2021. Although a long way off, plans will take shape early next year for that show, so please keep an eye out for further announcements of VCFMW 16 (or will it be 15b? We don't know yet!) Also, following the lead of other cancelled festivals, we are considering a Virtual VCFMW to be held on one or more of the dates allocated for this year's show (Sept 12 or 13, 2020). If we think we can pull off something half as entertaining as the real thing, maybe we'll do it. Watch your email for announcements sometime in August. Hi everyone, this is just kind of a public service announcement to remind those of you who know, and to inform those of you who don't already. The annual Vintage Computing Festival MidWest (VCFMW) which has also combined with ECCC (Emergency Chicagoland Commodore Convention) is happening in a little under 3 months. Description: The tenth edition of VCF Midwest will take place this fall west of Chicago in Elk Grove Village, IL! Join us in conjunction with Fall Commodore Expo/ECCC as we once again coax vintage electrons into motion! (Visit ECCC's Facebook page here.) In addition to exhibitions of eclectic electronica, we will feature speakers, vendors and more! Admission is FREE to all whether you come to show, look, build, talk or sell. location: Holiday Inn Elk Grove Village, 1000 Busse Rd, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 there is a block discount for the hotel room rate, group code CCC. room rate should be around $84/night I am told. The website for the hotel doesn't seem to be working well with the group rate code, so you might have to call to get the group rate. Date and Time: August 29 and 30, 2015. The show will run from 8:00 AM on Saturday on into the night, coming to a temporary close at 11:00 PM and reopening at 10:00 AM Sunday morning. We'll wrap up by 4:00 PM. Early setup will be available on Friday evening, after which time the exhibition area will be locked until the show opens on Saturday morning. More info VCFMW website: http://vcfmw.org/ There is also a facebook page The atari showing was pretty weak two years ago guys! We need to represent ourselves better!
