  1. I have a very old, crusty RF modulator for the VIC-20. Of course it worked at one point in its life but I cannot guarantee it still does and I no longer have any VIC-20s with which to test it. Yours for the cost of shipping, your choice: padded envelope for cheap or USPS Priority Flat Rate Small Box. The former will be a few dollars, the latter around $7.20.
  2. Here we will have a look at the good old Commodore VIC-20: And here the same video in 3D:

  4. Hello. I just picked up a VIC-20 from a thrift store for $11. It has the RF and the AC adaptor. The light powers on, but when I hook it up to my small CRT TV, there's nothing. I tried channel 3 and 4, but it's just a blank screen. Now this may be a stupid question, and I have almost no working knowledge of this stuff, but since it is a computer I assume it will power on without any cartridges or anything plugged in. Am I correct with this assumption, or do I need to plug something in to fire it up? And if not what are some basic things I could do to troubleshoot? I have a Genesis model 1 A/V cable and an RF switch for model 2, is there anything I can do with those? Pardon my ignorance on the subject and thank you in advance!
  5. I have two VIC-20s sitting here. One is missing its VIAs, two is not. One will give a video signal but no screen. Two gives no video signal. Moving the VIC from one to two transfers the screen behavior. I have replaced the KERNEL ROM and 6502 in both with no joy, as well as moving the 6522s around between boards. Two's 6522s are different manufacturers and vintage thus I suspect one or both have been replaced. I have been down Ray's troubleshooting guide and the thought of going after the TTL logic chips is bothersome to say the least -- this amount of work may not pay off for my purposes. Has anyone ever seen bad 6522s causing the behavior of video giving signal and black screen, with no other apparent sign of life? I have an internal source for 6522s which I can get to fairly easily. These are the two-pin power variety and the power supply is giving out 9.5VAC. I have checked the fuse and various power points around the board to confirm power is not an issue.
  6. SOLD Lot of 10 loose Vic-20 carts for sale. I checked ebay and it looks like average-to-low prices on there for these would total about $30-$40 plus shipping, so how about $20 plus shipping for this lot. Not a bad deal for some of the very best Vic games, including 4 out of 5 of the Scott Adams adventure games released for the Vic. Adventure Land Voodoo Castle The Count Pirates Cove Avenger Clowns Gorf Mole Attack Omega Race Radar Ratrace Open to trades potentially too. Let me know what you have. Click picture for larger view.
  7. Hello everyone, I had an interesting trade in today and frankly I have no idea what this stuff is worth or if any of it is truly complete or collectible. Ebay is amazingly scarce on a lot of this stuff and so I turn to the experts here to help me out and tell me what I have. I don't normally take trades like this since I am dumb about classic computing and have no business with these items which I openly admit, but it was just so much stuff and a lot of it was in awesome condition on the inside. The boxes were mostly beat to crap, but a lot of these machines were still in the plastic on the inside. It also came with a bunch of accessories that I had no idea about. The only thing this lot came with that I understood was 4 sealed atari 2600 games and that was the clincher in taking this stuff since I knew those were worth something. I just hope that I have some cool things here that can help flesh out some people's classic computing needs. I have attached pics of everything and i'm hoping you kind people can help me out and tell me what I have and possibly how rare it is if at all and if it's worth anything. I would be more than happy to work out a deal through here with someone if any of you are interested in anything in the pics. I don't post much here, but I am a known retro seller on the internet with a retro store in Portland Oregon and come recommended from rick weis and had a booth at the retro expo in portland. I just know that resellers don't usually have the best reception on these forums for good reason, but I hope you all can give me some help. I truly appreciate any feedback on this stuff. Maybe I can get a few more deals under my belt here as well. If there are any questions or more pics are needed let me know. I tried to take as many informative pics as I could so that there would be little guesswork, but am more than happy to take more if needed. Thanks everyone. Some vic-20 accessories and TRS-80 items Here are the computers themselves in some box shots No Box Now for the open box shots where you can see the amazing quality of the items on the inside. We're talking either never used or very lightly used. The only machine that isn't in the original plastic

  9. So I thought the red LED light on my Vic-20 was a bit boring. I saw one of these kits on ebay, a color changing, flashing, LED replacement for only 5 bucks. It has a cable that just pops into the original socket. The O.E plastic LED mount just kind of crumbled away with a pair of needle nose pliers when i tried to remove it. So all in all, this took 5 minutes to do and looks pretty darn cool http://www.ebay.com/itm/commodore-64-VIC-20-Fast-flash-color-changing-RGB-LED-assembly-13-in-long-difuse-/161886703987?hash=item25b1331173:g:~wAAAOSwkZhWRiqQ
