Thinking about a 360 any advice?

I think my mom is seriously considering a 360 just for that game alone. Despite how much the thing costs (my parents are a little on the cheap side).

I think the point is that Nintendo has carefully and successfully cultivated a perception that their next gen console is about game play and how games are interacted with, not about raw power. The (correct) point brought up was that Sony and MS have not wavered from their stances that their consoles are about power and polygon bandwidth, and so this kind of marketing would not fly with gamers if it came from those companies.

 

Remember - we're all gamers first, fanboys sencond here on this collecting site. Or are we?

I'm not referring to that point. I'm referring to the comments that the wii is just a gamecube with a new controller and flapping your arms around. There is more to the wii than that and if you guys are gonna go off spouting facts, at least state them all. If not you are no better than the people you claim to be clueless.

 

There is nothing wrong with the statement that graphics do not ALWAYS make a good game either. But for some reason people here keep on reading that as good graphics = bad gameplay. Where the hell do you all get that from. Really...

 

If anything it's the clueless non gaming core public that does not realize that there is not much difference between the wii and the gamecube. Not the supposed "fanboys" that you all refer too. If anything the blame for lack of decent graphics on the wii should fall on the publishers who are to lazy to learn to program the system and release half ass ports. Nevermind the fact that the stuff just released is technically 1st generation, something people here seem quick to point out about the release titles for the 360 and PS3.

But really despite nintendo's and to some extent the news media's publicity regarding the wii. The impression that I get is that people seem to like it because they (gasp ) like it, and not because of the technical aspects of it. In fact I'd be willing to bet that a good portion of the population is more likely concerned about the cost differences of the competing consoles than the actual specifications. My opinion on this little debate is that it doesn't matter that the Wii(graphic's wise) is the same as the gamecube(which the Wii is a little more powerful i think), it matters because of the VC and and online and the interaction with the Wii's remote. It is bringing a new thing/idea to the map. I think I've had enough of "Oh who cares about the graphics as long as the games are fun" gimmick. The 360's and PS3's games are fun, only they DO have better graphics. I'm glad Nintendo came out with the Wii tho, it brings something different to the table, i, however, wouldn't like it if it was the only system i could play. I need those hardcore graphics and hardcore games that the Wii, unfortunately, can't give me. And well to a certain extent, it is better to play a game w/ good graphics than it is to play games w/ dated graphics. I like all the systems, and dont have a favorite...but here is one possible model....

 

Wii = fun gameplay + New Controller

360/PS3 = fun gameplay + Great Graphics

 

As you can tell, i cant come up w/ a clear verdict on this subject, I mean, the diagram looks like it is geared toward the 360/PS3, but that would be lowering the Wii's status, and that should not be so. Let me put it this way, they both have their strengths, and so just find which ever one is geared toward your preferences, there is no need to argue about which system is better, because right now, neither of the systems are better than one another.

The way it was stated, as most comments after the one you are referring too, were all done in a lighthearted manner. Probbaly why were used. So there were no statements even being made really. And I don't get why anyone gets defensive when the wii is said to be the same system as the GC. Practically, it is, with a new controller and wi-fi. Shouldn't be taken as an insult. Do you remember when the 360 was out and everyone claimed it was the Xbox 1.5? That was always used to try to be insulting or belittling, because anyone with an ounce or 28.3495231 grams of brain knew it wasn't true. The wii is what it is, don't get mad at the people who say it. If it matters at all then I guess contact Nintendo. They love you and me and everyone and they really care.

No it's not first generation, it's 5 years old, There are no significant changes to the system that any type of programming has to be learned, at least for graphics. But I really don't understand what you are trying to say. I mean, the wii doesn't have the ability to match the 360 or PS3 graphically, and I haven't seen or read anyone expecting it to.

Maybe people just think they might look too much like a tool playing a wii.

 

Ok fair enough I'll just take it as poking fun. I have not really decided whether to feel insulted by nintendo's little "upgrade" or not though. But average joe six pack really does not care about specs.

 

Anyways it just seems like since Nintendo did so well numbers while people are all in an uproar or something. Jealous? Uh but as for the laziness reference. Let's all face it. Most publishers have been programming the gamecube half heartedly ever since it came out. I just think if they put a little more "effort" into it they could probably come up with something decent looking. As for the unusual controls I don't half expect any 3rd parties to even make a half way decent go at it. Nintendo only seems to be the one that has any idea what to do with it. It's a shame really. The same thing occured with the DS. There are some ideas that could be done on it that no one has even bothered with lately.

 

Sure bumping up the clock speed and doubling RAM isn't exactly a new machine, BUT, it still needs to be mentioned when making fun of the wii. This strategy almost seems like the same one they use with their handhelds. Whether it will work or not remains to be seen. But really graphics are getting to the point where the price vs advantage ratio is starting to decrease. Maybe that is what nintendo is thinking

 

As for the xbox 360 and PS3.... I dunno. It's almost beginning to look like the PC scene all over again. Expensive upgrades every so many years in order to stay on the cutting edge. I sure hope they don't go that way. Just how long does Sony expect the PS3 to last anyways? 5 years? 3 years?

 

I have a feeling, though, that the online stuff is really what is gonna have a BIG impact on how well the next gen systems do. I really like what MS and Sony have in place with the budget price title strategy. Probably Sony a little more so because they are gearing the budget titles a little higher quality. As much as I like the VC concept I think nintendo really needs some original titles to go with it.

 

But anyways this is a 360 thread and I dont wanna knock it any more of topic than it already is. Just get yourself Gears Of Wars and Viva Pinata kev and you oughta be set. Now let's see if I this graphics whore can actually get that game of resistance going tonight...
