UK PAL 7800 - interference from Five? Can I adjust the RF output channel?

Recommended Posts

Just got a 7800 off of eBay and am having a nightmare of a time getting a TV tuned into its signal.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is interference from Five (the TV station, not the frequency). The 7800's modulator puts out a signal on channel 36, Five broadcasts on channel 37 and this particular 7800 seems to be outputting closer to channel 37 than 36 (it's about halfway up). Net result is a complete mess of a picture.

Is there a way of moving the modulator's output signal to a part of the spectrum that's a little less crowded? Failing that, does anyone know if any of the composite out mods work with a PAL 7800?

The same problem plagues many other home computers in the UK. I retuned my C64 to a different frequency because of it. I am fairly lucky, Five doesn't interfere much at all, and I switch between aeriel and 7800 input on RF when using my PAL machine. Doesn't seem to come through at least.

To answer my own question - yes there is, there is a little adjustable screw on the modulator. Built up the courage to take it to pieces and now have it happily transmitting on ch35.
