godzillajoe #1 Posted January 13, 2007 So I'm testing out all my new games and I noticed when playing Pac-Man that it seems like ol' Packie jumps back a couple of pixels when he's eating dots Most noticeable when you're clearing a really long row of horizontal dots like at the bottom Kind of a 3 steps forward and 1 step back thing. Just curious if this is a known issue.
PacManPlus #2 Posted January 13, 2007 (edited) Hey! This is by design. He's supposed to move slower while eating dots (like the arcade) Bob Edited January 13, 2007 by PacManPlus
NightSprinter #3 Posted January 13, 2007 Also to add on that, it will only be noticeable if you don't have "Fast Pac" mode on.
godzillajoe #4 Posted January 15, 2007 Does Ms. Pac-Man not slow down when eating dots?
PacManPlus #5 Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) Yes, she does as well (at least in the Collection she does; on the original 7800 cart she does not, which IMO changed a vital part of the gameplay) You can tell; trying getting in front of a monster and then eat a long row of dots... He'll catch up to you. Bob Edited January 15, 2007 by PacManPlus
godzillajoe #6 Posted January 15, 2007 I knew you were supposed to slow down in Pac-Man but when I tried the original 7800 Ms. Pac-Man just to see what that looked like when you ate dots, it didn't exhibit the same behavior. Cool that you added it in. And for ALL versions. What is Ultra Pac-Man BTW? I don't really notice a difference between that and the regular version except maybe the music. PacManPlus #7 Posted January 15, 2007 Ultra Pac-Man is a 6 maze hack done to Pac-Man (released as a chip swap some time ago - I believe it was 1999). The first two boards use the same maze as as standard Pac-Man maze. The only thing is in the arcade they were white instead of blue. I liked keeping it blue. The other difference is that the monsters were different colors - I didn't like that, so I kept them the same as well. Bob
godzillajoe #8 Posted January 15, 2007 Cool, I guess I didn't play it far enough to see the different mazes. Too much football on yesterday to get any good gaming it
Chris-in-NJ #9 Posted January 16, 2007 I think I really have found a bug. It's happened to me three times so far, always when playing Ms. Pac-Man Plus in fast mode. On the board with pink dots and the tunnels at the extreme top and bottom of the screen, and a nearly complete stack of dots on both sides, the ghost eyes never return to the pen, they circle where the top left energizer is. Last time it happened, I only had Blinky on screen for quite a while, kept stalling to see if the ghost eyes would return to the ghost pen, but they never did. shadow460 #11 Posted January 21, 2007 I've got a question: My cart seems to work fine, but it doesn't fit my Atari Game Center very well. Was the shell recycled into Pac Man collection, os is it new like the board is?
Shawn #12 Posted January 21, 2007 I've got a question: My cart seems to work fine, but it doesn't fit my Atari Game Center very well. Was the shell recycled into Pac Man collection, os is it new like the board is? There is no new stock of standard black 7800 shells at even close to a realistic price yet so I would bet it's a la recycle. Also I don't know why it wouldn't fit, it should, do your other 7800 carts fit ok?

Dauber #14 Posted January 22, 2007 (edited) Interesting...one thing that impressed me about Pac-Man Collection! is that it actually fit my 7800 pretty well...but now that I took a chance with a box cutter this weekend and tore some plastic out, everything fits pretty well. Chris-in-NJ #15 Posted January 23, 2007 I really did get a bug last night -- I was playing one of the Plus mode versions, and when I ate an energizer, the maze outline disappeared. I was on my last life and tried to eat a ghost just as it turned back, and naturally died, but the maze outline didn't return and there was no "GAME OVER" on screen. Odd, that. PacManPlus #16 Posted January 23, 2007 (edited) I can explain that. You actually happened to catch the one frame in between where the monsters turn back to their regular colors and the maze color turns back to it's original color. Being that the text shares the color with the maze border (had to do that) you didn't see the 'Game Over' message (Although it was there, just black).
