fire!fire! #1 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi. I miss the option to buy carts in blue. Why are there no blue carts available? When will they return? I bought Swoops in blue and it is neat-looking.
supercat #2 Posted January 13, 2007 Why are there no blue carts available? When will they return? The blue carts are neat. Unfortunately, it costs a lot of money to set up a molding job and I don't think the blue-cart supplier is inclined to do so.
+atari2600land #3 Posted January 13, 2007 Well, there goes any hopes of seeing GoSub in a blue cartridge...
Albert #4 Posted January 13, 2007 In order to get more blue carts I'd need to purchase about 1,000 of them. It would take quite some time to go through that many blue carts, so it's not likely to happen anytime soon. Sorry. ..Al
mos6507 #5 Posted January 13, 2007 (edited) Does that mean VGWiz will still make cases as long as you order enough of them at a time? Edited January 13, 2007 by mos6507
fire!fire! #6 Posted January 13, 2007 POO. I wish I would have bought more in blue! I just started making more money last year and have had the opportunity to buy homebrews from AA and I go back and Fall Down is not in the blue & red cart! Space Battle and Lady Bug look really great in red, tho. Phantom II would have been cool in blue! Thanks for answering my question. Guess I thought carts grew on trees. Bummer they don't. But then they would be green.....HEY....
Albert #7 Posted January 13, 2007 Does that mean VGWiz will still make cases as long as you order enough of them at a time? I assume so, but I don't think they want to buy a slew of them and "stock them" if they don't think they will sell very quickly. ..Al
+atari2600land #8 Posted January 13, 2007 I'd buy about 1,000 blue cases, but I don't have any place to put them.
fire!fire! #9 Posted January 13, 2007 (edited) Is it possible to bring back the blue carts by a grassroots effort? Or have I had too much beer already? Edit - GoSub would look really cool in blue.... Edited January 13, 2007 by fire!fire!

jboypacman #11 Posted January 14, 2007 The blue carts are very cool.My copy of Seawolf is in a blue cart.People who come over see this cart in my collection and thats the first one they ask to play.
Lord Helmet #12 Posted January 14, 2007 Tronman looks even cooler in blue since it lights up
+Nathan Strum #13 Posted January 14, 2007 It'd be nice to see blue carts return. The Champ Games labels (Lady Bug, Conquest of Mars) were designed for blue, red or black carts. But ordering 1000 of them? I think Albert would have to discontinue selling black carts to unload them all.

Ordered Seawolf after the colored carts were gone But I understand why it would be costly and even though all my homebrews are black the games are what matters LOVE Seawolf takes me back to when i was little and played in a long since torn down Ice Cream/Mini Golf/Arcade place my parents took me to a lot 30 years later I still love that game (but a blue Seawolf would be SOOOO nice) oh well back to playing Edited January 14, 2007 by HatNJ
Gregory DG #15 Posted January 14, 2007 Did it really take that long to sell out 1,000? Seems like AA just started offering those 2 years back...

I did not have to buy 1,000 blue carts--I was buying them in smaller batches. But in order to get more, I will need to buy at least 1,000, which isn't very feasible. ..Al

poker_plus #19 Posted January 15, 2007 Anyone who has collected vinyl records may have seen "swirled" multicolored vinyl. Is it possible to do that with these new colored Atari carts? Just curious.

fire!fire! #21 Posted January 16, 2007 I'll play the lottery until I win and I will buy 1,000 blue carts and send them to AA. I was trying to think of how a lot of us can pool our funds and make a bulk purchase but now that I am not smoking anything weird, that does not sound very feasible. Granted, all weekend I had these great plans.....
supercat #22 Posted January 16, 2007 Why did they change the numbers? The cost to order any number of a molded item is going to be a setup charge plus a per-unit charge. The setup charge is sufficient that it doesn't make sense to set up a mold for less than 1,000 pieces. To be sure, if all you really wanted was 10 pieces, you could probably get ten pieces for a somewhat smaller cash outlay than 1,000, but the per-unit cost would be enormous. For example, if the setup cost is $500 and units cost $0.50 each, then an order of 1,000 units would cost $1,000 (net $1 each) while an order of 500 units would cost $750 ($1.50 each), an order of 100 units would cost $650 ($6.50 each), and an order of ten units would cost $505 ($50.50 each). My goess would be that VGWiz probably ordered 1,000 each of the different styles of cart, expecting to sell them in a reasonable amount of time. He didn't particularly want to sell them onesie-twozies, but the main reason for having minimum-order quantities would have been to avoid having to fill 1,000 separate orders from different people. Far easier for him to sell them in lots of, say, 100 to someone like Albert. All that would be well and good if the demand for carts were such that VGWiz could go through 1,000 pieces in a reasonable length of time. But it wasn't. Because I'm not a plastics guy, I don't know how the setup cost to do 1,000 pieces of one type of plastic would compare with the cost to do 250 pieces with each of four types of plastic, especially if any carts from the 'changeover' (i.e. containing a mix of different plastics) were deemed to be acceptable product. I would guess that acceptance of 'changeover' carts might reduce the setup cost to change colors (since it would avoid having to flush the pipeline) but of course agreeing to accept the changeover carts would mean agreeing to get stuck with them even if they were downright ugly. Thomas Jentzsch #23 Posted January 16, 2007 I am pretty sure a lot of people (collectors!) would even pay a much higher price for colored carts. Maybe we should start a poll about how much extra money people would pay?
Cybergoth #24 Posted January 16, 2007 Just to add a bit, the blue cases are just the _first_ that got sold out, mainly because Seawolf and Fall Down were using them exclusivly. It should be only a matter of time when "red" and "clear" are also sold out.
Guest moonshot22 #25 Posted January 16, 2007 (edited) The blue/colored cartridges are $2.50 right? What if we did a group buy where 50 to 75 people agreed to buy 10 shells each? I know that over the next few years I will no doubt buy 10 homebrews. This way we each commmit $30 bucks or so for our 10 and Albert keeps the remainng 250 to 500 shells on hand to sell in the store provided Albert is willing to make a commitment for that many. Aside from that, all of this would also be contingent upon Albert selling us just the completed board and labels, so that we could assemble our own homebrews. I know it's convoluted but it's a potential solution. cheers---Ron Edited January 16, 2007 by moonshot22
