This might be a somewhat stupid question, but why is it that copies of the original nine games (and any subsequent releases of them) have only 23 pins, rather than 24, on their PCBs?

Because they were only 2K (instead of 4K) and they didn't need the high address line. :)

So that's how/why the 2600 found the vectors at $FFFA-$FFFB, $FFFC-$FFFD, and $FFFE-$FFFF, even when a 2K ROM began at $F000 (or $1000, or whatever)?
