Recommend me some Nintendo DS Games. Also, where can I get a DS?!

Recommended Posts

My GP32 still works, but it’s obsolete at this point. The GP2X is really cool in theory, but the controller sucked so bad that I hardly ever used it and I sold it recently. So, I’ve decided to get a Nintendo DS because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, including the possibility of NES emulation. I’m already planning to get New Super Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy III, and a kanji game for it, and I was wondering if people here could suggest other cool games for the DS.

I don’t really like sports games, but I’m open to suggestions from any other genre.

Also, if anyone has heard when the damn things are going to be available again in the US, that would be helpful. I tried ordering a DS from a Canadian website last week, but they’re giving me the bureaucratic run around. Games are fine, but I’d rather not use Ebay to buy the system itself.

Thanks!

Edit:  Sorry, I should not have posted this so quickly. I'm looking at several other threads now that are basically asking the same thing... :ponder:

Mario Kart DS

Sonic Rush

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Elite Beat Agents

Animal Crossing: Wild World (if you haven't played the GC version yet that is, otherwise it's pretty much the same.)

I scored a DS yesterday at Target. I had to go to their website, Find the DS and then put in my zip for the nearest store that had it. Luckily one close to my house had 1 Onyx DS left. I snagged it and Brain Age and Big BRain Acadamy.

Folks should be proud, other than the Game.com I got for $10 from KBs this is the only new handheld system I've bought....ever.

I really kinda got it for my GF, but I plan to pick up some RPGs for it. Hopefully someone will suggest some good RPGs. Doesn't have to be DS either, Like I said I haven't played any GBA games either really, except maybe some mario game my friend had going one day.

The first game I got was Mario Kart DS because it had online play. OMG, this has to be one of the most fun games ever. Even after I've gone through a couple of other games, I still go back to it almost a year later!

I also like Tetris DS & Advance Wars DS, but I've played other versions ad nauseum and they don't offer very much new stuff. (Ok, Tetris is online and has some new play modes that aren't all that great.)

New Super Mario Bros. is a great game too, but once you've played through it once or twice, there's not much to bring you back.

Nintendogs is fun for awhile too. The dog animation is excellent and very realistic! But I've never been one for the whole "collecting game" genre (like Pokemon.)

I saw DS Lite systems at my Wal-Mart (I think the one I noticed was pink). I guess a lot of stores sold out because people were buying them as Christmas gifts and such but perhaps they're finally getting them in stock again? I'd suggest checking your local stores again.

I like the Mario games and have mostly been playing New Super Mario Bros. lately though sometimes I also fire up the GBA Super Mario. Bros. 3. I also like the puzzle game Zoo Keeper.

OK, if you're looking for a DSlite, try this link. They only have the white DSLite model, but it's $129.99. I was hoping to find a black one, and they do have them at Play-Asia, but they're asking $199.99.

Be careful at that site however, or you may be blinded by pokemon jumping out at you. :ponder:

I don't know if DSLites are starting to show up again at brick and mortar stores, but I can now vouch for Pokemon Center. I ordered the DS last Friday and got it Wednesday afternoon.

My inital impression of the DS is that it's fucking awesome. I should have jumped on this bandwagon long ago. The screen is so much brighter than my old GBA that I may have to turn it down a bit. I was very skeptical about the touch screen but it works well. One issue I do have is that the styus is quite short. Are there any third party styluses (styli?) that are a little longer?

Also, I've got one stuck pixel, is there any thing I can do about that? I'd rather not return it over one stuck pixel, but if it's a sign of a larger problem, maybe I should try to exchange it sooner rather than later.

For games, I bought 3 so far. First, I have original Phoenix Wright game which is hilarious and a lot of fun. Then there's Final Fantasy 3 which looks and sounds incredible but I haven't played it too much yet. Finally I picked up the River City Ransom remake for GBA on eBay. RCR is OK, but it seems a tag sluggish compared to the original. No matter, I picked up my Slot 1 flash card this morning and will be trying out many more games, including the NES emulator this weekend.

So far, I am not at all surprised that Nintendo is having a hard time keeping up with demand for this device.

I see DSes everywhere. The only place I've noticed them sold out is Target. However, most places only have huge piles of the pink variant. It seems no one wants a pink one.

My DS primarily sees use as a GBA player, because the top screen is better than the one on the original GBA-SP. There aren't any DS games that have really knocked my socks off. The only ones I've found that I've thought were decent on the side of good are New Super Mario Bros and maybe Final Fantasy III. So, I guess I'd recommend those two.

I got my black NDS Lite at Best Buy at the Holyoke Mall. Those things weren't so easy to find. They're nearly impossible to find in my hometown.

So far, it's seeing more use as a GBA player. I played Super Mario 64 DS a few times for the novelty, and while it's not a bad game in itself, it definitely needs a better way to control Mario and the gang than just the D-pad and the stylus on the touch pad.

Wow, That doesn't sound like it's very good at all. I think some games probably just aren't right for the DS.

Both the games I've got so far have seen quite a bit of use. We go back and forth with those Brainy type games trying to outdo each other.

I recently won 5 DS games off EBay

Trauma Center, Pheonix Wright, Feel the Magic, Nintendog Dachsund and The New Super Mario Brothers.

I've heard decent things about every one of these games so I'm looking forward to getting them (Might come in the mail today!)

Still have to pick up some RPGs. Right now I'm also chugging through the first Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls GBA cart on my DS

I picked mine up before Christmas at Costco. It was the bundle pack that came with Mario Kart DS and The WiFi adapter, and the carrying case. With the trouble that people have had with dead and stuck pixels I wanted to buy from a store that has a good return policy

BTW, what color does everyone seem to prefer? Do any of you think that the video display looks better against a white or black background ? (or pink for that matter..heh!) Does it matter?

I saw 2 Black Onyx DS Lites in the Gamestop nearest me 2 days ago. They don't really seem to be hard to find in my area at all. No the Wii is another story although I know the EBgames closest to me had 1 in last week.
