Double Dragon XBLA looks like a flash game

Recommended Posts

^^ I dunno. I was just looking at the images. Funny how they kept the tile layouts too. Some of the foliage looks messed up now!

There are 3 side by side comparisons, so I would guess it's either an option which graphics style you use or; they're just highlighting how much the game has been funked up.

Wow, Abobo looks like Mr. T!

Then again, I really need to get more XBox Live points so I can get more games from the Arcade!

Ok, No biggie....

The Xbox Live Arcade version will feature a downloadable demo and original and graphical enhanced versions. Player action will include online co-op 2 player and one-on-one fighting for the final battle. The game will also feature the opportunity to score 12 achievement points for your online Xbox Live Arcade profile and an online leaderboard will give you the opportunity to show off your Double Dragon skills to your friends.

This is what I like about Live. Many games you can chose to play the updated graphics....but it's not forced upon you.

The graphic redo looks OK to me. And they let you play with the original graphics as well. So, if you really want to look at a late 80s pixelated mess, you still can.

I'm just happy this game is finally going to get a decent home release. The NES version is an abomination, and I've personally noticed the SMS and Genesis ports to be impossible to find. This game is one of the few true classics of the late 80s, yet except for a string of crappy sequels, the game has gone nearly forgotten.

The GBA version, Double Dragon Advance I think is an awesome port. You outta try that one if you haven't already.

p.s I've always thought the SMS one was pretty crappy, and I was one of those crazy ones in the late 80's who went out of his way to have both the SMS and NES versions. And although I liked the NES version for what it was, the SMS one was a big dissapointment in my opinion.. although I haven't tried it in years so I forget exactly what i was dissapointed about. I think it was the choppy gameplay.. or maybe it was the odd graphics.

This is very true. In fact, I think I raved about it in these forums when it came out.

Oh how true, Gabe. There are so many things I liked about the game *grins at his boxed copy on his desk* What were they? OH yeah..

-Kept original storyline

-Survival Mode

-Took out Jeff (can you imagne how overpowered he would be if he had the Hyper Knee or Hyper Uppercut??)

-Cleaned up storyline

-Double the number of missions (I HATE Mission 4, though.. damn you Steve.. you deserve constant Hyper Knees)

-LARGE variety of weapons (Axe, MorningStar, Kali Sticks, Nunchucks.. the latter two being the most effective)

-Two player link play (and at the end Marian will amusingly cheer on for one to win)

-Includes enemies from later games (Chin Tai Mei, Burnov, Steve, Gen-Satsu-Ken master Raymond and his students)

-All music wonderfully-remixed (love the "Into the Sunset" and "Invading Enemy Fortress" themes from DD2)

It's worth the price a retailer charges for either a new or used copy (got mine new on eBay in December for under $25 after priority shipping).

*looks to Gabe and uses Uncle's voice* And ooonnnnee more thing! I have copy of Double Dragon on SMS.

Wow, I hadn't tried the GBA version until now! It's really great, (except for that blinking truck level!)

I like the nunchucks and sticks. And the new moves are great too. How about that uppercut? :D
