ubikuberalles' Blog - Creative stuff: Photoshopping

Recommended Posts

I'm not very artistic but that hasn't stopped me from dabbling with Photoshop now and then. Although I did a few drawings on my Atari ST using Degas and Neochrome, it's with Photoshop that I've done most of my creative drawing. Here's a sample of my early works.

My First Photoshop

My first Photoshop drawing was inspired by a conversation I had with Pantechnicon back in 1999 when we drove to Las Vegas for CGE99. The Star Wars Holiday special came up in conversation and I had to admit my ignorance of the show. After Pantechnicon recovered from his jaw hitting the car floor, he gave me a brief description of the show. At one point he mentioned that Chewbacca's son was plaing with a toy that looked a lot like a dreidel. This sparked speculation that perhaps Chewbacca was jewish and I livened up the conversation by doing an impression of Chewey at the wailing wall (it got a good laugh out of Pan). When we got home from CGE99, Jewbacca, er, Chewbacca was on my mind and I decided to try out my talents in Photoshop. So here, then, is my very first Photoshop picture, circa 1999:

Not all that great quality but I was proud of my work at the time.

It's All About the Joke

As you can tell, my priority is not the quality of the work but the joke. In other words, I prefer Fark.com photoshops over SomethingAwful.com photoshops. Here are a couple more joke photoshops I made:

(I knew a guy who worked for Sprint at the time and he got a good laugh out of my piece).

I was inspired by Stinkoman in this one.

DOUBLE DEW!

(As you can tell, I like Mountain Dew)

During the height of the "Freedom Fries" and other anti-French feelings that went on shortly after the U.S. invaded Iraq, I decided to add my creative input to the debate with this bumper sticker I created:

Bumper Sticker madness

That WWFD sticker wasn't the only bumper sticker I ever made.

Not long after Trogdor made his appearance but before the Chapman brothers started selling Trogdor items online, I really really wanted a Trogdor bumper sticker of my own. So, instead of waiting patiently, I made a couple of my own:

(OK, it wasn't very creative or original: I just moved some graphic elements around to fit on a bumper sticker. However I was really stoked when I made those bumper stickers)

I never got around to putting the stickers on my car but I gave one to Pantechnicon and put it on his car.

Trogdor on my mind

As you can tell, Trogdor was on my mind a lot. However, I wasn't done with just a bumper sticker and I came up with some ideas for Trogdor video games.

First there was the Sonic-like game I came up named: "Trogdor the Burninator"

Then there was the game I dubbed: "Trogdor Fodder" (inspired by "Cannon Fodder"):

Bumper stickers and video games weren't enough for me and I had to modify a Foxtrot cartoon:

I hope you enjoyed my work because I have a lot more Photoshopping goodness to post in the future.
