Quick JAMMA question about Tetris and Magical Tetris Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I have a quick compatibility question about Tetris. I just purchased a Tetris machine for my basement and I thought it would be cool to upgrade it to Capcoms "Magical Tetris Challenge" Since there both JAMMA I figured it should work but I noticed on KLOV that it says 2 buttons are required for Magical Tetris Challenge and my Tetris cabinet only has one. Does anyone know if the second button is really required or is it maybe just a shift the block left or right kind of thing? If thats the case I'll still buy it since thats how the original plays anyways but if it's required to play then I'll probably have to pass since wiring in another button is most likely out of my league. If anyone knows that would be totally cool, I've never played it so I have no idea. I think it was also released on the N64 if that helps? Thanks everyone :)

I don't remember specifically but I do know that board is basically an N64 running the N64 game. It's almost identical. If you have a copy of that N64 game you can find the answer yourself.

No I don't have one but thanks for the heads up. It will probably be easier to figure out now since it's the same game. Thanks man :)

Well I went ahead and bought it. Installed it today and although after reading online that the N64 one is playable with just one button this one is totally not. I can't even get the game to start due to no start button since my Tetris cab only has one button to start the game and use for gameplay...it's shared. This Tetris (Magical Disney) must require an additional button just to start the game.....Damn. Oh well I guess I can just pop it in my NBA JAM cab, that has 3 buttons and a start button....unless there is a way to wire in a start button on my Tetris cab :? Probably out of my league though.

Naerly any JAMMA game requires more than one button.

Adding buttons to a CP isn't hard. Swapping the CP isn't hard either.

Really :)

Now I'm excited :) :) :) :) Maybe I could just put a CP in that has 3 buttons? That would be sweet, are all the plugs universal?

JAMMA is a standard, so yes if you had a JAMMA compliant control panel you could swap it in without much trouble. The bigger issue would be finding one that physically fit your cab.

I guess I could just buy one with the extra buttons and transfer all the parts/wires to my Tetris CP. I'd just have to drill a few holes, no big deal. You don't think I'd have to do any extra wiring?
