It depends on which style you're getting. The original (with 4 controller ports in front) needs a special automatic RF switchbox, which the power supply plugs into (unless the console has been modded for a normal power supply and manual switchbox). The 2-port version does not need the special switchbox; a manual switch box like the 2600 uses will work fine. Both versions use the same supply, IIRC it's something like 12 volts at 1.7 Amps (1700 mA) (the Amps/milliAmps rating of a replacement supply can be higher but not much lower), center-positive coaxial plug 5.5 mm O.D., 2.8 mm I.D. (= Radio Shack's "Adaptaplug" style "O"). Yes, that's a lot of power, and yes, Radio Shack's adapters that are compatible cost an arm and a leg! Do be aware that you get at least one free Adaptaplug when buying one of their adapters - it says so on the package - so don't let them charge you the extra $5 + tax for that.

Cool thanks for the info. It appears to be a 2 port.

If I recall, the amperage is actually a fair bit above what's needed. They intended the power supply to drive accessories that never materialized(hence why it supplies far more juice than, say, an Atari 400 supply) .
