Circuit City to close 69 stores, most in Canada. Another game blowout?

Recommended Posts

My local "The Source" has a very limited supply of games...mostly a select few PS2 and Gamecube titles. I'm pretty sure it's an indepedant franchise and not a company store so I'm not expecting any worthwhile liguidation sales anyhow. It won't be like the incredible Radio Shack NEC Turbo-Grafx/Duo clearances of the 90's (remember those?) :|

Yeah, my mom wouldn't get me one. :(

'Circuit City' in Canada is primarily old Radio Shack stores with little in the way of console software. Not much to be found I'm afraid. I always wondered how they stayed alive though. They don't have much in the way of anything and when I do venture in for some cable or component, the prices remind me why I don't go there.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Coincidently the last time most of us ever even considered buying games from there was when the TG16 was reduced to clear, goes to show how little Radioshack/The Source is taken seriously as a software/game retailer these days.

I would not be suprised if one of the 7 US stores to close is here in South Bend locally. It's right across the highway from Best Buy (which has a brand new renovated building), and this Circuit City is never busy, ever. They don't even use the regular cash registers anymore, all transactions are done at the service desk. I might get lucky, because they have a ton of video game stuff.

In Canada there are more than 800 The Source by Circuit City (that's what they came up with for a name) stores, so I don't think there will a problem with them redistributing the stock to other stores. On more than one occasion, there are two stores in the same shopping mall. Idiotic, and no surprise that they are closing some.

I think the TG16 was the reason why Radio Shack/Source is not involved in the video game market. I won't miss any of the stores that close.
