Oblivion, could I get your input on the game?

Recommended Posts

Couple of things. I've never really looked at this game before until now. Looks really cool. I love fantasy style games (Champions of Norrath on PS2)

How do you like the game. Should I consider it?

I noticed they added new download content for it too, cool!

Also, if you buy it new, it's comes in a green hardcase. But I saw a used copy in a brown fold out case with a map, coin thing etc. Would the new copy have that stuff too? I think the brown fold out style looked really cool.

The brown version is the collectors edition and comes with stuff the regular version doesn't have (Like the coin and a making of DVD). Oblivion is without a doubt a must have must play game. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

Here's a huge 15 page thread with many peoples opinion of the game when it came out...

Good stuff, and they are fixing to release an expansion with about 30 hours of gameplay.

Ahh, where should i begin....

Oblivion ranks as one of my favorite games of all time, putting 50 hours on it the first 3 days i had the game, and it was the first game i got for my 360. I got it the week after it was released. Anyways, this game is absolutely great, it is nothing like champions of norrath(great game also btw), however.

You will play the game in first person throughout the game, but are free to switch to 3rd person anytime, i usually walk around town in 3rd person but i always go through dungeons in 1st person. Dungeons, ahh yes, it is one of the many things in this absolutely massive game. You could easily put 150+ hours onto it and still not do everything, in fact probably not even close to doing everything.

At the begining of the game, you are able to choose your race, birthsign, class and other things as well as fully customizing your character to have your own personal look. Another HUGE thing about this game is the fact that you can go anywhere in the game from the very begining, and you can do try any quest line from the begining of the game as well as quests from anybody in each of the towns. There has to be atleast 75+ dungeons im sure, so you will not get board there, and you can also do them at any time also. Another thing that makes it easy to go anywhere in the game is that the enemies are leveled around your current level, and they get stronger as you level up. Usually they will be within 5 levels of your own, usually less than your current level unless they are a boss. You don't have to constantly level up either, i played through the first 50 hours and only got to level 12.

In this game, you get a horse to ride through the countryside so you can get there faster and safer, and the horse will stay wherever you dismounted him at. You can buy houses in each of the five towns, buy stuff for your house(i mean like main stuff, not like sims style :)), you can be a vampire(and cure your vampirism), join various factions, man! there is just too much stuff for me to explain or else i would be going on for antoher hour.

Get this game, lol, seriously you will NOT be disappointed one bit. I havent got the new downloadable content yet, but will get knights of the nine soon.

The two different cases are the Collector's Edition Case and the normal case, i got the CE case new when it was first released and it came w/ the coin, guide to the empire, a big map, and the cool making of oblivion dvd. The other one just comes with the manual and the game, so definately get the CE, it might be better to find it new tho, on ebay or something? idk, it doesnt make a difference though, you'll love this game the same either, the extra stuff is awesome tho, so if i was you, i wouldnt get the noraml case.

Well, that was just a very, very short summary of SOME of the stuff you can do in this game, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Damn you moycon, you posted before me :x :D

Take it from me, and them, and practically everyone else who's played it... Oblivion is one of the best games released in 2006. I dare say it's one of the best games ever... there's just so much attention to detail and so much to do that you can't pull yourself away from it. There's no such thing as fifteen minutes of Oblivion. Once you put in that disc you'll be glued to your television for hours.

The only downside? Repetitive dungeons. Once you've seen one dungeon in the game, you've seen them all. However, there are cool weapons and items hidden in those dank holes, making the journeys into them worth the trouble.

yes, the stuff and money you get from rumaging through a dungeon completely makes it worth going through all the trouble. Some dungeons are a little different but mostly they are basically the same, don't worry, tho, because you can do a dungeon, and then do something else, and then once your done doing something else, you will be craving the dungeon-crawling-good-items you find in the dungeons and will happily be at them again.

I got the Collector's Edition and I'm surprised how much effort they put into that little book and everything else. I would be playing it right now if my 360 wasn't being sent away to be fixed. Create a couple characters from different races, classes, and prepare to get sucked into it's universe. And you can forget about your real life for awhile.

Sounds good guys! I read a bit about it over at gamespot, but I wanted what folks here had to say.

Thanks for the other thread moycon!

I agree, I think I'll go get that CE version I saw. Man, I don't even have this yet and I can't wait to play it.

I've got just under 200 hours logged on my character. I think the only game I have more time logged on a save is Morrowind. In all honesty it's still the best 360 game out there in my opinion. Sure gears is a blast and all but there is no way I'll have 200 hours of gear time. Get this game.

Well I did it. Over the lunch hour I went and picked up the CE version. I guess this is the part where I tell everyone I'll see them a few days later. I'll be lost in another land, oblivious (ha ha) to my surroundings.

I think I spent about 95 hours on this game, completing all the guilds and the main story. After 95 hours I'd had enough, but it was a really memorable experience.

lol, that's what you'll tell us, but what will you tell your boss when he asks you why you haven't shown up for work in the past week.

Here it is...yes...yes...and notice the game isn't here because it's inside my 360 that's why. Notice how the coin is unopened...yeah....

When I stopped playing oblivion I was trying to see how big of a "party" I could create by starting quests where people "accompany" you and then moving onto other quests without completing them.

At the time I did it though I had completed a good many quests. But when the PS3 version comes out I'll probably try it from the beginning. See if I can build up a 4-5 person party.

That's awesome! I didn't know you could do that! Baurus was as slow as molasses and had the navigational skills of a deaf bat, but boy could he clean up in a fight. I'd love to have a whole pack of NPCs like him at my side, taking care of business while I explore at my leisure and collect treasures.

FRAG!!

That used copy I bought had a blemish on the disc. The 360 wouldn't read it. So I have not played yet.

I took it back today for an exchange. They did not have another one, so I went with a new copy.

Dammit, this sucks! I wanted to play this AND have the CE version.

Bah, screw NPCs - I found them annoying usually. Now, summoning is where its at when you want a handy helping extra hand! Or claw... :D

I just did the NPC thing for kicks. They can be a nuisance at times though. Sometimes they will not go the way you want, or go charging into an area before your ready.

Some of them, though, you can tell to wait for you. Making it a little easier to clear out stealth area's. Some of them cannot die, which comes in handy. It gives the bad guys someone to beat on besides you.

Summoning is kinda handy too. Alot of times I'd summon a creature and send it in while I just sit back and watch. Or use it as a distraction so I can concentrate on other things.

How well does summoning work? I wasn't sure if it would be worth the trouble of building up that stat.

It works extremely well once it gets boosted up. Check out the conjuration spell list.

I never got tired of seeing my Daedroth literally smacking people silly.

One way to get the skill up is summon something simple constantly as your doing your town errands. I would constantly be practicing different spells while wondering thru town (or wherever) to get up my skills.

Did you try a disc cleaner? Its a good investment if you don't have one already. Used Dreamcast games come to mind mostly.

The gaming shop tried that. There was a blemish on the CD from the factory. The guy at the store apologized, and couldn't even fathom how it was put on the shelf in the first place.

I played a bit last night. I've only just started. I'm just beyond the prison cell, down in the hallways.

I spent alot of time just playing with the character creation options. I think this is going to be fun stuff!
