Some STE questions from a noob

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I've been lurking around these parts for a little while now, but I finally need a little advice on some prices. I'm in the Uk btw, so I'll be talking in pounds sterling.

I've been offered an STE for around £30, which seems like a reasonable price. The guy I'm buying from also has a monitor and printer that go with it. I don't particularly want those, as I'd rather just plug it into a TV for some gaming antics, but I might offer to buy them from him, then eBay them - so I was just wondering what they're roughly worth, so I can maybe make him an offer. I've been unable to find either on eBay, you see.

The monitor is a colour Phillips CM11342, and the printer is a Citizen 120D+.

The other thing I was wondering of course, is - is it worth using the monitor for gaming if I do buy it? Are there any resolution compatibility issues or anything like that? And does the STE plug into a TV via a standard cable like the STFM(which is the only ST I've had experience with)?

Sorry for the noob-ish questions, but I haven't had an ST since I was in my late teens(a decade ago :(), so I've been out of the loop a while.

Cheers.

I sold a CM11342 new in the box for US $100 a year or two ago. It's a nice monitor becuse it can handle composite, YC, TTL and analog RGB, meaning it can be used with a C64, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST (with custom cable) Amiga (with custom cable) and C-128, plus it has the composite jack for generic input. A person with a large collection of systems could reduce monitor clutter by quite a bit using this monitor.

- That said, I seem to remember it's a little coarse at displaying the 640x200 resolution that the Amiga and ST desktops often run in.

Also - I'm speaking of the NTSC monitor. It's possible that the UK version has different ports or specs.

Cheers for that.

I'm just trying to weigh up whether it'd be worth my while to pay the shipping on the monitor and printer, and taking the chance that I could make enough of a profit on them to make it worth it. Alternatively, it might be worth buying to keep from the sounds of it, since I have a load of older systems it sounds like I could use it for.

I'll try and get the seller to take a picture of its connections.
