ApolloBoy #1 Posted February 20, 2007 Whenever you hear or see the 2600 being mentioned, what 2600 console do you think of? For me, it's the 4-switch woody, mainly because it's the most common 2600 console, and as a result I see it more often than other 2600 consoles. ewing92 #3 Posted February 20, 2007 when i here the 2600 mentioned, i immediately think of the front of a woodgrain model, with the "Atari 2600" on it. I really don't think of the switches, but then immediately after i get that mental image of the woodgrain i think of my vader and it's 4 switches. +poobah #4 Posted February 20, 2007 Heavy Sixer - its what we had when I was little. Then again. I have mentally ingrained the vcs = 2600 conversion.

G.Whiz #7 Posted February 20, 2007 I never really got into the 2600/VCS thing. To me, it was always just "Atari". I didn't even realize there was a difference between "Heavy Sixers" and "Light Sixers" until finding this board years ago. But I do remember the 4-switches coming in, and thinking that the people who bought those were getting ripped off. So "2600" translates to "Atari" to "six-switch with the genuine imitation wood grain panelling" in my mind, and everything else a shadow of what went before. ~G

Mindcircus #14 Posted February 20, 2007 4-switch woody, the console of my childhood. I've been using my Vader for the past 8 years, but nothing says '80s quite like woodgrain!
bcprs1 #15 Posted February 20, 2007 I had the black - dark vader as a kid. That is the one I think of.
oldgames #16 Posted February 20, 2007 Definitely a Heavy sixer as that was the first Atari I played. What is even funnier is that when I think of Atari, one of the first images I think of is always playing basketball on that machine and an old RCA T.V. at my friends apartment. He used to kick my butt bad at that game!! But I stll loved to play Atari, even when getting thumped!

Franzman #19 Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) when i here the 2600 mentioned, i immediately think of the front of a woodgrain model, with the "Atari 2600" on it.Wow, ewing92 thinks of a non-existent model! None of the woodgrain models say "2600" on the front -- unless someone wrote it there! For me it was always the first version I had, the light sixer. But now I prefer to think of the heavy sixer. MickG #20 Posted February 21, 2007 To me it's definitely the wood-grain 6-switch. It was my first 2600er and the one all my friends had back in the early 80's. When I started a new 2600 collection about a year ago I started it with another 6-switch woody!
liveinabin #21 Posted February 21, 2007 I think of the junior. The woodgrain model is still a VCS in my mind.
Prodos8 #22 Posted February 21, 2007 Assuming your using 2600 and VCS interchangeably, I'd have to say the light six-switch. That was the one I grew up with. Never had a junior or vader model back then.
homerwannabee #23 Posted February 21, 2007 I think the 4 switch woody was the most common, so I would probably have that flashing through my mind more than anything.
