+kisrael #1 Posted February 22, 2007 Hey After seeing the review of Crackdown in Game Informer, I might get a 360. I had every last gen console, so far only a Wii. Crackdown looks pretty swell though. I loved Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and it shares some conceptual elements with that, along with Grand Theft Auto, which has always meant a lot to me. Plus there was a preview for Mercenaries 2, and I loved the original on Xbox. Also, it seems like 360 has more happening in terms of the Xbox Live Arcade. And I even have secret hopes of toying with that developer kit, but that's kind of a pipedream. So what do you think? What are the kits that are out there? (Like how much will I spend for the basic model w/ harddrive and at least 2 controllers?) I know I"m probably polling the choir here, but is it worthwhile? I'm by no means a resolution whore, I'll be putting this into my 720 whatever projector via SVideo for the foreseeable future...
Jess Ragan #2 Posted February 22, 2007 A premium system with an extra wireless controller is going to set you back around $450. You'll save money by purchasing a used system, but that's a risky move as some people have been having trouble with their systems. (For what it's worth, I bought a used Xbox 360 last May and have had no issues with it) Anyway, I like the Xbox 360... it's my favorite of the three next-gen systems. It offers a good balance of power and price, along with some great games like Oblivion and the aforementioned Crackdown. JR
ManShowBoy #3 Posted February 22, 2007 I want Crackdown but the 360 has many hardware issues(3-Rings of Death). MS needs to get that shit strait before I give them my money. Ebay is littered with dead consoles, which is rather pathetic for Microsoft.
rxd #4 Posted February 22, 2007 Crackdown is a lot of fun that's for sure. Real glad I got a copy. I'm really happy with my 360 purchase so far....
+Random Terrain #5 Posted February 22, 2007 Crackdown is a lot of fun that's for sure. Real glad I got a copy. I'm really happy with my 360 purchase so far.... I saw a clip of the game on TV and it didn't cause me to lust over it like the game where you are running around in a mall killing zombies. So do you have a GTA:SA or Hulk kind of freedom in Crackdown?
+kisrael #6 Posted February 22, 2007 Huh, should I go back and get the extended warantee?
ewing92 #7 Posted February 22, 2007 well, you get a full year waranty, and then if you want to get an extended warranty you can do so by contacting Microsoft. My friend got this game, he was talking about it today, he is also pretty rich(upper-middle-class), so that is why he has it and i dont, he has money, i have no money, can you believe i still havent got GoW yet? NE146 #8 Posted February 22, 2007 I cant get into Crackdown.. I've tried. I got 10 achievement points so far. I dunno.. it's just not my type of game I do like the 360 though. Playing for score in Robotron is great.
moycon #9 Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) Huh, should I go back and get the extended warantee? I would, and did. Not so's much because it's a 360 but because of the $$$ I was investing. I'll do the same for the PS3 when i get one. You pay like $30 and then your good for however many years you buy. If your $400 console takes a crap it's nice to know you can just call up and get them to fix it. Cant go wrong with that if you ask me. Oh and I haven't gotten my copy of Crackdown yet. (Hopefully tomorrow?) It's ok tho, I'm caught up in Just Cause right now anyways. Edited February 22, 2007 by moycon
Shannon #10 Posted February 23, 2007 I played the crackdown demo as well and aside from the large city size kinda don't "get" the GTA comparisons. From what I understand the whole game is built around "orb collecting" and fighting a few bosses here and there.
PressureCooker2600 #11 Posted February 23, 2007 Plus there was a preview for Mercenaries 2, and I loved the original on Xbox. I love Mercenaries. I used to play that game so much I got sick of it......then a few months later I would get back into it again. Great storyline, great gameplay, wonderful atmosphere. PuddWakkr #12 Posted February 23, 2007 Played Crackdown for about three hours tonight. Co-Op rocks. Every single game made from now on should have online co-op. Makes the game so much better - when someone finds a new gun and you meet up somewhere to see what kind of damage it can do. Really fun and the orb collecting is actually well done. You can easily run around and grab some easy agility orbs but for those who are completists or want max stats it gets harder. Finding a way to the top of some building is a great challenge and quite fun. It reminds me of prince of persia's platforming sequences. Only thing I'd like to add would be four-player co-op. I'm not sure if Crackdown is a system seller but if you already have a 360 it's a good buy.
+kisrael #13 Posted February 23, 2007 On further playing ('bout 1/3 through?) It's basically Mercenaries minus the tanks but plus some super powers.
jay2068 #14 Posted February 23, 2007 On further playing ('bout 1/3 through?) It's basically Mercenaries minus the tanks but plus some super powers. Agreed. I'm enjoying the game. I've killed the latino and russian gangs off and have killed two chinese bosses. I can't stop playing it. I have all my stengths maxed out exccept my driving skill which is still a two. I don't like driving that much I have more fun plowing up gang members with a rocket launcher or sniper rifle from the roof tops. Thou I think I liked Mercenaries better but then again I have not played that in ages.
IronMongeR #15 Posted February 28, 2007 I started playing the game last Saturday, and I expect that come this Saturday I will be finished with the game. There really isn't enough to do. I still consider it a 'good' game, just not substantial enough to live up to the hype.
raindog151 #16 Posted March 2, 2007 I picked it up today, I love it. Action action action! If anyone wants to try coop, my XBL is the same, raindog151.
+Random Terrain #17 Posted March 2, 2007 Can you break windows, smash through walls, knock chunks out of buildings in the spot where you did the damage, and knock down buildings in a way that doesn't look 'prerecorded' like the building destruction in Mercenaries did? The damage in Mercenaries was kind of disappointing, the people were pretty stupid and the world felt less alive than I expected.
+kisrael #18 Posted March 2, 2007 no. the city is well designed and well-differentiated but by and large not destructible. There's a cute little "broken pavement" effect when you land heavily, but it's very shallow, and transient.

I don't like driving that much I have more fun plowing up gang members with a rocket launcher or sniper rifle from the roof tops. That's why it's kind of a good idea to max out your driving early on. Because the easiest way to gain experience/points is to drive over gang members But it's hard to do that when you've killed all of them off! Oddly enough I found the easiest way to kill them by vehicle is to just inch up to them with the car and just go over them slowly... Well, there is more to gaming than cities that break down. But, reviews of this game are mixed, it does have some fun physics elements but isn't the end all and be all. Probably worth it once it's cheap.
+kisrael #22 Posted March 4, 2007 So I played a little co-op of this. I got the feeling that it would have been a lot more fun had I not gotten through the full mode myself... all that was left was time trials (which was kind of nifty) and sandbox play. So there's no way to clear out your character and do it all again, without getting a whole different profile? That's annoying...
Shannon #23 Posted March 5, 2007 You can probably go into the 360 dash (or whatever they call it) under the far right tab there is an area where you can clear game save info off of your hard drive.

If you choose crimes, you do everything except boss battles. Edited March 5, 2007 by Starscream
ManShowBoy #25 Posted March 5, 2007 Crackdown should've had 100 player online deathmatch Maybe the developer should take notes from these guys and work that into the next downloadable content. Coop is fun but it can't touch San Andreas 100 player DM. Anyone else play SAMP?
