kisrael
I don't think it's something I'd, like, want to bring to the next meet but "Crackdown" just got me to get a 360... hopefully it lives up to my dream of it crossing GTAish sandbox w/ Hulk:Ultimate Destruction superhuman mayhem... Any thoughts?
chadtower
Totally not my cup of tea.
ClubNinja
Ditto. My 360 plays Ridge Race, Viva Pinata, a handful of Live Arcade games, and DVDs. That's about it.
chadtower
I was poking around with XNA Express... if anything could get me to buy a 360 in 2007, that may be it.
kisrael
Yeah, I have XNA express as a pipedream of mine. YetAnotherJoustPong? Actually my real pipedream are some simple-graphic minigames, a kind of best-of of things I liked in the past . Actually the toughest part in that case might be the enemy AI... chadtower
The toughest part for me is spare time. Definitely. Time spent on something like XNA would be time taken away from my kids since I can't scale work back anymore than I already have. AI for JoustPong would have to be easier in C# than it was in 6502. You'd have relatively unlimited resources.

kisrael
JoustPong's AI has always been super simple, from the original VB version thorugh the Java and Palm versions and then on the Atari: If the ball is above your head at the moment, flap. That's it! It doesn't try to predict, which is why it misses sometimes, but it's a decent strategy. I think I was a bit by someone who wrote about writing an AI in Pong... maybe it was breakout, they wanted to make it look like they were awesome at it, so they wrote a computer player that calculated all the angles... it was the fakest looking thing in the world, the computer would just go to right place and wait. Much more realistic was a simple "put the paddle under where the ball is right now" (Or even better, only start moving when the ball comes to you...) I did. We wound up with another probably three months later, though.
