I think I'm going back to the Pro-Line...

Recommended Posts

I'm beginning to find myself using the Pro-Line stick a lot more than the joypad I have. I think the Pro-Line works well for games like Ninja Golf and Donkey Kong, but obviously not so much for shooters like Galaga or Centipede. Anyone else find themselves using the Pro-Line more often?

I keep the proline around, and I've got two rebuilt ones in pretty good condition, just because I think the basic dome-hat design with a simple circuit is a good reliable long term stick to have around.

But mostly, I use an RSI modded stick for the 7800. You *need* a stick for most of those kind of games, otherwise people would be happy with emulation and d-pads on the PC.

Yes, the pro line seems to work better (for me) for Asteroids (7800), Ms. Pac Man (7800), Donkey Kong (7800), and mostly 2600 games. I do like pad style controllers, but the cross pad accuracy is a little shaky sometimes.

The only games that I have found that work well with the proline are Pac-Man Collection and Ms. Pac-Man. If you need a button, the prolines suck.

Still, even for those games I use the RSI stick. Perfect controller for classic games

You really need a joystick for playing 2600/7800 games comfortably, and like Paranoid, I would reach for one of my RSI sticks (or even a CX-40 if possible) long before I would resort to the ProLine joystick controllers.

The 7800 joypads were okay little controllers, and they look great in pictures, but they were obviously manufactured on the cheap and their performance and durability suffers because of it: no stress relief boots on the cables, a wimpy d-pad that tended to get stuck in corners, mushy action buttons that were awkwardly placed, etc.

Are you drunk? The proline is a hunk of shit in all ways compaired to the joypad.

If you have a couple extras, I'll take them as part of our deal. I mean, you certainly don't need hunks of shit sitting around your house.

(by the way, I don't have any joypads yet, you wouldn't have any of them for sale would you?)

Yeah, but as uncomfortable as they are, they do look cool IMO.

Agreed on that one. I've got two joypads that don't work because of bad cables, and even the one that I bought new at CGE 2K4 is showing a flaw in the cable. Still, they are generally good controllers and nice to have.

Nope, no prolines in my house. Sold the ones I did have with the last couple 7800's I had sitting around about a month ago. Also only joypads I have are the ones I use. Best Electronics has them for $15 each NOS all the time and you can't beat that price.

Just a bit crass, but otherwise spot on.

If you want to talk about *looking* cool, the 5200 sticks can't be beat.

The mushroom cap on top of the 7800 really looks funky, to me.
