Does Galaga end after 32 waves?

I read on the back of the box that it says '32 waves.' Does that mean that it ends after Wave 32 or does it keep going?

Wasn't it like that in the arcade as well? I thought 32 was the last unique stage and then they repeated (although they got faster).

I loved Galaga so take it from me it repeats but just seems a little speedier.
