skeptix #1 Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) I'm sure this has been gone over before, but I must be pretty lousy with the search feature, so I'll just ask again. I was checking out Tempest's proto page (wow, awesome awesome site btw), and I went to Other Stuff/Atari Label Variations/The Label Variation Museum and found "Upper or Lower Case?" Even with my paltry collection, I keep a database with the games I own along with the rarities listed on this site (I use DP for my non-Atari games). It was a matter of frustration to have 2 label variations not listed in the rarity database. The proto page told me about these label variations, but I'm still clueless as to the relative rarity of them. I've got a copy of Video Pinball with the name in lower case on the front and end labels. I also have a copy of Missile Command with the name in upper case on the front label, but lower case on the end. Could someone clue me in as to the relative rarity of these? Thread title is a couple questions, but my second question I answered myself with a little dilligence and a few google searches. Who'd a thought I wouldn't know what a Commodore 64 cart looked like? shadow460 #2 Posted March 3, 2007 I would imagine that cataloging each label variation out there takes a lot of time and patience. A couple of folks here have some extensive databases, and it seems that certain folks "specialize" in a particular company ir label type. My first couple of Atari related purchases included a Stellar Track with a green and a gold end label (the green one was affixed over the gold) and a Frogger cassette with a rather large window in the middle. I asked the same question, not realizing how much dedication it takes to learn the rarity of each variation. Welcome to the forums, though.
xuul #3 Posted March 3, 2007 http://gpdgames.tripod.com/id12.html Check that link, it's a pretty extensive list of pretty much everything that's been discovered so far.
skeptix #4 Posted March 3, 2007 http://gpdgames.tripod.com/id12.html Wow. That site is awesome, but very overwhelming. I learned more than I wanted. Thanks for the replies guys. You can only learn so much before asking questions, even if they seem silly to others. And actually, I've been around for a while now, I just never post, I just lurk. I'm afraid that if I get too into collecting video games, I'll spend ungodly amounts of money. But...I'm sure some of you on here have already run into that problem. shadow460 #5 Posted March 3, 2007 That's philfound's site, and it's pretty extensive. ROM Hunter has a site also, and it has a ton of info on it.
Philflound #6 Posted March 4, 2007 I'm finished through J on the Atari. K-Y is going to be finished hopefully by the end of June, but I'm going for May. It's taken a few years to keep compiling this list, and since I've added manuals and other paperwork, that took even longer. For those of you who are new, anything with a * next to it has been verified by scan. I'm collecting them, though I'm not hosting them. Anyone who wants to see a particular scan can PM me with their email or I can PM them the pic. Rom Hunter's site at www.atarimania.com has a nice array of scans and like I've mentioned in other threads, once I'm finished, I'll be working on getting him as many of my scans that he doesn't have. The other site you may check is www.atariguide.com. He also has a variety of scans of label variations. I'm taking my scans from those 2 sites, along with Staberinde's site, AA, and my own personal stock of a couple of thousand carts. Christophero Sly has been supplying me with the grey, red, and later release Atari variations. I had the 5th Ghost giving me some Sears and can't remember who gave me the nice selection of Activision boxes. But the list has been worked on many years with input from many people. I took it upon myself to make it even more resourceful and it pretty much has doubled in size since I started. If you'd like to contribute, anything that does not have a * next to it, I need scans of. If you are doing cartridges, please submit both main and end labels. If you are doing boxes, both front and back. If you'd like to get on the list for my updates to be emailed, send me your email. The list is in MS Word format and looks much better than what it looks like on the site. Phil
